most of the time, i buy dressed chicken at the supermarket for convenience. there was this instance where my wife bought a live native chicken and asked me to help her kill the chicken (poor creature)! it was somewhat traumatic in a sense that i feel bad after seeing it slowly dying after my wife ran the knife against its neck and blood slowly dripped and slowly losing its life.... i felt so awful.. when it was cooked, i did'nt have the appetite to eat.. So, i told my wife not to buy live ones and just buy the dressed ones in the supermarket.. how about you? which do you prefer?

Wow, what a nightmare! I never saw such a thing in my life. We buy only dressed chicken (if you could call this "chicken"). But I remember that in my childhood sometimes my grandfather was bringing a live rooster or hen from the market and it was staying on the kitchen's balcony. I don't know why. And I never saw how they kiled them but as I remember this was not an easy thing, nobody was willing to do it. But we are town people.

Yeah, it was traumatic.. slitting their throat with blood dripping afterwards, quite an awkward feeling seeing something losing its life. i really felt sorry for the poor chicken.. although buying the dressed ones, you just cook it and that's it, not knowing how they were butchered.

I don't think you could even buy a live chicken around here unless you just found someone who would sell you one of their flock. I've raised and butchered them before, 20 to 100 at a time and frozen them for later, but now I just buy them ready to eat at the store, like everyone else I know.

Down here, there are a lot of folks still raising some in their backyards, having them for dinner or just for selling. Live ones are significantly at a lower price as compared to the dressed one.

Dressed chicken - Dressed chicken is better
When I was just a child, I always watch my mother when she kills chicken for our dinner. But those days are over. Now that I have my own family I think buying live chicken and killing and dressing it yourself is too time consuming. So I would rather just buy dressed chicken. I just make sure the dressed chicken are fresh and not frozen.

Yeah, i agree with the hassle-free thing, but we opted to buy the live native chicken as they say that it taste better than the dressed ones especially with "tinola"..lol!
