heya girls! =) i need your opinion. i am still young and ever since i have only used menstrual pad but it always irritate my skin so i only use them when i go somewhere but not when it at home. now i have a pack of tampons, but my mom is very worried about me using it esp when it comes to TSS - toxic shock syndrome. i know i just need to maintain cleanliness and change it often, right? but i still seem anxious. which do you think is better?

Hi Hushi, I had a lot of trouble with my periods when I was younger. My doctor advised me to wear tampons during the day when I was up and about only and to change them frequently. He said to never wear them overnight. It sounds like what you are doing is fine. I think the biggest danger is when girls where them overnight or when they are having light periods and leave them in for long periods of time.

Hi. hushi22. I think that you should use sanitary napkins instead of using tampons. Sanitary napkins are more safer because it does not cause TSS. I do feel that changing your maxi pad every three to four hours will help to reduce cervical cancer.

I wear both sometimes. It is safe to wear tampons and make sure you change them and never leave them in more than eight hours. Tampons can be worn with a swimsuit where pads can't, an embarrassing thing I found out when I was a teen. I wore one in a pool and it floated out into the pool. It all comes down to using whatever you are most comfortable with.
