LCD or LED?

LCD uses liquid crystals. they don't generate any light of their own so they need back lighting which "washes out" the colors creating a poor contrast ration. an LED each pixel is an individual LED light, because of this it requires no back lighting and the contrast is near perfect, also it would be significantly thinner and require far less energy to run. The only downside to LED TVs is a relatively short life span and high cost. How about expert outhere what can you say about LCD and monitor?

I think this is a confusion, LCD and LED panels noways are the same, the difference is the backlight itself: the "standard" LCDs uses a fluorescent lamp as backlight and the newer ones uses leds as backlight, so the panel is exactly the same in both cases. The only technology that uses real leds as pixels is OLED, and this technology doesn't exist in the market until now is still developed precisely for the problem you mention of the time life of the organic leds (because they are made of organic materials). The standard LCD with led backlight uses NON organic leds so the life of this monitor are even longer than florescent ones and give better image quality. Regards.

i think led and lcd are quite the same as quality or life as well!!So the difference is the major backlight for the led and not for lcd but they are ok both!!From this point of view there are more green than the old tv and i think even the product life will be ok!!May be due tot eh high technology they enabled they are a little bit delicate than old one..
