Wow, it works? Do they go outside in an untreated yard? Because I used drops of lavender oil in water on my puppies and it worked until Sept, when the fleas got really bad. I ended up getting some frontline, which I didn't want to do, but was desperate. Problem is, our yard isn't treated, so though the fleas that bite my dogs die, they only pick up more when they go outside. I heard that marigolds and mint are both flea repelling plants, and I am trying to add them to my backyard. In the meantime, another mylotters who is very sensitive to chemicals, mentions that she mixes drops of eucalyptus oil into mineral oil and she adds it to the shoulder and tail area of her dogs and it keeps the fleas away. Since this season is almost done this year, I will continue with the frontline, but will try the eucalyptus oil next year. If that doesn't work, I'll remember this. so, how much lemon juice and water do you mix together?

The lemon has acidic property. Using it as an aid for cleaning was practiced and applied especially in some of our household problems. Now for that pesky ticks and flies, I have also tried to prepare the same solution of lemon juice and water with our rabbit and it seems just effective only in a point to lessen some ticks but it will never make it disappear. That is my observation. Since more or less the dog problem you have might be compared to the rabbit problem I have regarding those ticks and fleas...I also used the solution of a heated vinegar to see if it works. But it only works in parts were there are small wounds and we see it was dried up. If you can not get rid of the fleas of your dogs, better check an anti-flea shampoo solution or better yet, ask for an expert advice or your nearby veterinarian. My piece of thought and view...

Thank you for this suggestion. We've been battling fleas throughout this year and although there are a lot less now than there were a month ago, they are still there and I really don't want to use anything that is chemical based on my pets. That said, I have to go to the store tomorrow and I might be very likely to get some lemon juice and try that on my dogs and my one cat that seems to have fleas. Our new kitten had a flea treatment right before we got her and she hasn't seemed to have a problem with fleas yet.
