How to enjoy yourself travelling alone

Did anyone of you experienced traveling alone in another country? If so, what is your best memory of it and would you do it again? I did travel alone last year. Funny thing is, it wasn't planned. Me and my special friend planned to stay in Malaysia for a week but some unavoidable circumstance happened before the travel. Weighing all the pros and cons, I decided to fly alone and explore Malaysia by myself. Surprisingly, I enjoyed cruising Kuala Lumpur without someone who can share the memories with me. But that's okay. It was a sheer introduction of the joys of traveling alone and the possibility that I can do it again.

I have traveled with other people and alone. I don´t mind traveling alone as I am a social person and can make aquaintances soon. But I prefer to travel with someone else, specially if it is someone close to me.

I travel alone if I can´t find someone close to me to travel with. I have tried to travel in groups of people who don´t know each other and I don´t like it. I don´t like guided tours either, as I like to go at my own pace.

I too traveled alone in Kuala lumpur and Kota Kinabalu. And I enjoyed riding their public transportation alone. In Kota Kinabalu, everyone seemed friendly that you always feel you're just at home... The guides were friendly, the vendors are friendly and guesthouse staff were friendly...

In my younger days I traveled on my own. At age 18 years old I traveled around Europe by train alone. I stayed in youth hostels and met many friendly people. Backpackers tend to be interesting people that have been to lots of other places that are very interesting to travel to in the future. I did almost all of my trip around the world alone. On that trip I visited Malaysia and had a fantastic time. I also went to Hawaii, Fiji, Australia, Singapore and Indonesia on my own. The last time that I have the joy of traveling on my own was in 2006. On the wonderful trip I went to Mexico, Belize and Guatemala I had a superb time. I was able to climb Mayan ruins, see crocodiles on a river, go snorkeling and go on a very exciting cave adventure. Also that year I went to Bulgaria and Romania in the summer time. I was able to look at interesting towns and cities. Then in 2007 my disabled baby son was born. Now he is 3 years old and in a wheelchair because he is unable to walk. These days I travel with him and last year my baby daughter joined us as well. This summer I traveled with my disabled son and daughter to Vancouver.

Now I travel with my husband, but in the past I sometimes travelled alone. In 1999/2000 I worked in Estonia for a while and when I finished working I travelled around in the country for two weeks on my own. It was a very interesting experience and I enjoyed seeing the different parts of the country. In was during the winter months, there were very few tourists and everything was very quiet. Sometimes I felt a little lonely, but most of the time I was very happy and excited about the new places that I saw. I have also travelled around in Italy and Hungary on my own, and those trips were interesting as well.

Yeah, I know travelling alone is difficult to manage but it also depends on the country and people you are visiting, I am here in Malaysia from last two years and I found these people very friendly, I mostly visit Kuala Lumpur during long break or weekends and I found it very interesting to visit again and again. I also went to Penang Island alone and got company of students over there, I want to visit that place again For me it is very good in Malaysia till now, nothing bad happened to me when ever I travel alone, and I found very friendly people over here...

I haven't tried traveling alone but I know of a friend who travels to different places alone. She said it is fun because she gets to meet different people from all walks of life. She also consider this her "me" time because she can do whatever she pleases and go to places she really likes.

I have always travelled alone especially going home for the holidays. But i have not tried to travel outside of the country. I think somehow i like to travel alone because i can be at peace during the travel, i can enjoy the beautiful scenic spots without anyone annoying me or telling me where to go to and I can have all my time.
