I borrowed the Ibook g4 from an acquaintance of mine just to check out what the difference between windows and mac is. First of all it's much softer to type than a microsoft laptop and normal computer. There is also no start button and that feels pretty weird. Some hotkeys are also different but easily discovered. Last but not least when I swoosh the cursor to the other side of the screen I get a nine square grid. It's pretty annoying but so far I can't say MAC is worse. Have you ever compared both operating systems and what is your verdict?

I finally got a Mac and I love it. For one thing it is safer from viruses and that is because fir updating and major software you have to enter your password if you have administer rights. I have the MacBook pro Nd the keyboard is lit an advantage if you have astigmatism, Most of what I hear is the cost but for me it was first that school kids used it while business people used windows, and cost and whether you are not important are the wrong reasons for not choosing a Mac. By the way get one of the for dummies for Mac books. It helps.

I know what you feeling suspenseful. I've been there. Just enjoy. Did you already register your serial number right-away to Apple.com, that's so important, especially you have a portable device. Don't forget to right it down or save your Serial Numbers. Do you have an applecare?.... Anyway if something happens or not satisfied there's a chance you can change to another for free for about 1-year of usage. When you register your Serial Number you'll know the information about the warranties, free-service, free-technical assistant, AppleCare and so on, accordingly to your MacBook Pro Serial Number. Did you get the latest iLife 11? and you can also register your applications softwares serial numbers from Apple.com .... But first of all you must have your very own Apple.com account registered. If you have already an iTune account, I think you can use that. Just ask me? What you want to know or whatever I can help you.

Those nine square grids are called Spaces. Have that also on MS Windows and Linux they called Virtual Desktops but users don't know how to use, because they are slower on PC when activated. I'm a Space addict actually or neat freak mac desktop user or an OC. I've got 4 x 4 or 16 square grids of Spaces. To be a lot more organized on the desktop, or else because the Mac has a lot of processing power might end a lot of confusions on opened applications windows on the desktop. Beside Space we got the famous Exposé. It's what we call Aero animations on MS Windows and Compiz Fusions desktop effects on Linux. But on Macs they are more simple, responsive, snappy and very addicting. To have the best experience on Macs, use multi-touch pointing devices like Apple Magic Mouse or the Apple Magic TrackPad. I got the Apple Magic Mouse, its one of the best of Apple technologies.

Simplest thing to do and most common sense of every Mac users is to have the CD or DVD Mac OS installer. You'll already found in the internet the solutions, just do it, and that is to have CD or DVD Mac OS installer. That's the best solutions you can ever do.

Okay, well I don't need any grids for now but great to know what that is all about. I have a question though. In order to perform some things on this mac I need to fill in a password my acquaintance does not have. How do I reset it without using the CD? I tried everything mentioned on the internet but it doesn't work and some command returned the warning that it was read only. I was asked to change some things on the mac to make it easier for her to use it and I had no knowledge about mac whatsoever. :P

You can't say Mac is worse?.. I would say you can never say that Mac is in any way less than windows or other software or PC... Mac is far..far.far.. better than any of them.. not just on the basis of the software but also the make of the PC ... technically it is very safe...easy to use.. software very user friendly.. no that prone to viruses .. you will not find bugs in it.. they give better customer service..it's so stylist.. I can go on with this list...

I can't say it's worse from the first few hours I used it. I do have noticed some things I don't like. The keyboard is just too light and makes me need to change my typing style. Also there is no right mouse button on the trackpad so it came as a surprise that I needed to press another button first. But it's all okay, I mean this g4 ibook is not the newest stuff around. I saw the date on the back and it was 2005 I think.

I have always used PC's but a few months ago my laptop started to slow down. It was over 5 years old which is about the lifespan of a PC it seems. My son, who knows a lot about computers, told me that if I wanted a real computer, pay the money and get a Macbook Pro, so I went for it and I'm sure glad I did. It's great. So much better than any PC I've ever had. My son told me an interesting story last week. He is in his third year of college studying computer networking and a guy came to speak in front of his class. The guy was a computer expert and worked for Microsoft. He pulled out his laptop and it was a top of the line Macbook Pro. That tells a lot right there. I'll have a PC as my desktop computer that I use as a backup, but for my laptop, my main computer that I use all the time, I'm sold on the Mac.

At Microsoft Redmond Headquarter use Apple Macs. Apple Macs success are with Microsoft and Microsoft success is with Apple also. Microsoft has a share of stocks in Apple, Inc. The competitions between Microsoft and Apple are just for the fun of their marketing purposes to keep the economic of computer technologies alive and healthy. I have found an interesting very old anecdotes between Microsoft and Apple in Wikipedia "History of Apple, Inc." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Apple_Inc.#The_Microsoft_deal The Microsoft deal At the 1997 Macworld Expo, Steve Jobs announced that Apple would be entering into partnership with Microsoft. Included in this was a five-year commitment from Microsoft to release Microsoft Office for Macintosh as well a US$150 million investment in Apple. It was also announced that Internet Explorer would be shipped as the default browser on the Macintosh. Microsoft chairman Bill Gates appeared at the expo on-screen, further explaining Microsoft's plans for the software they were developing for Mac, and stating that he was very excited to be helping Apple return to success. After this, Steve Jobs said this to the audience at the expo: If we want to move forward and see Apple healthy and prospering again, we have to let go of a few things here. We have to let go of this notion that for Apple to win, Microsoft has to lose. We have to embrace a notion that for Apple to win, Apple has to do a really good job. And if others are going to help us that's great, because we need all the help we can get, and if we screw up and we don't do a good job, it's not somebody else's fault, it's our fault. So I think that is a very important perspective. If we want Microsoft Office on the Mac, we better treat the company that puts it out with a little bit of gratitude; we like their software. So, the era of setting this up as a competition between Apple and Microsoft is over as far as I'm concerned. This is about getting Apple healthy, this is about Apple being able to make incredibly great contributions to the industry and to get healthy and prosper again. Cheers!

Macs can actually handle better than PCs. I love using Macs for photo editings. It seems Macs have a really small chance on crashing while editing or importing photos. Unlike, the PC(s) where I get lags and crashes like crazy.

Yeah that seems to be true here as well. This isn't the newest mac laptop and still it does not crash that easily and when it does have a crashing moment it's pretty brief. I am not convinced yet but at least it comes in handy knowing how mac works. :)

I am a PC consumer. Now of course you might be thinking I'm going to attempt and sell you on why PCs are better than Macs, but that is not the case. First off saying that either Mac or PC is superior is like saying that an automatic transmission or a manual transmission is better in a car. It actually just depends on what you are going to do with it. When acquiring a computer (like a car) one should think about what one needs it for. While I will divulge that Macs are more user friendly than PCs, it comes at a cost.

In all my fifteen years or so using Apple Macintosh equipment I have never (touch wood) had any machine of mine infected with a virus. Its rare to hear of MACs infected by viruses and if so very short lived. Yes, Macs are a delight to use and work with, not only are they beautifully designed, the software and interface are so intuitive. When I first started using a mac I had absolutely no experience using computers and within a month I has already creating artwork using programs such as Adobe Illustrator and Aldus Freehand, oh yes and there was also PageMaker, and although you have the same software for PC the whole experience on a mac is far more pleasurable. Now, those annoying nine squares you get, is in fact a great way of multi-tasking; allowing you to quickly switch to different tasks. For example you can assign all your admin software to open in one view, your web browsers in another and all your games say, in yet another. You can also adjust the number of views available...ohhh there is so much more to the MAC....

It may well be a great way of organizing things but it's a tad bit annoying when you're trying to browse and the grids pop up. I do just have to get more familiar with mac so it's no biggie.

From what I have experienced all functions windows has mac has too and more. I haven't tried editing photos yet but I have heard mac is better at handling such RAM slurping programs than a windows computer.
