A funky idea for a funky house:

What do people think of making a house with the following little extra: Making it with all the walls, outside and inside, being class for the first foot or so (around 30cm)...... It would look like it is floating in the air!! Just a glass foundation from the ground up! Only a little way, enough to be magical. Are there any architects who know if it is structurally possible...? Or whether someone has done it before? I would love to see it done, and am definitely planning to have it my house. Anyone else gonna join me? =D

I think I have seen one house like that on tv. If I am not mistaken it was built in Hongkong. It surely is a work of art when I saw that. Even the bath tub and sink are made of glass. Will tell you the site if I saw it again.

WOW!!! Glass bath tubs look beautiful... I want one. I tried to find it but was hard, mostly just found greenhouses when looking for "glass house"... =P

Hello Joe_Black! I guess it is possible with a metal structure, but the costs would be huge and unjustified, since there's an easier way to create that effect. I actually had to solve a client's problem with a swimming pool this way. The constructor made it 10 inches above the ground instead of building it at the terrain level. So I adder a border that stepped over the main volume with 2 inches and place spot lights on the 10 inches vertical portion of the pool that was sticking out of the ground. Now their pool seems to levitate :) I'm telling you this because in the case you mentioned, a house with a glass base, the effect would be visible at night. In daylight it would look odd and fragile and wouldn't look suspended above ground at all. Let me know what you think of my idea and i'll try to upload a picture to show you what i meant with the swimming pool Happy myloting!
