Do you like to make your own cards? Which things do you use?

I like to make my own cards. I started around Christmas time some years ago, and later I started making other cards as well like invitations or birthday cards. I use pictures from old magazines and I try to combine them in a funny or unusual way. I also use stickers sometimes and different kinds of paper. Do you like to make your own cards? Which things do you use when you make your cards? Pictures? Stickers? Different kinds of paper? colourful pens? Paint? Other things? Do you use the cards yourself (when you need a card for family or friends) or do you sell them?

Hi Porcospino Yeah, I like to make my own card, when I was young I used to make cards but now with technology I can make card using different software and but making cards by our own hands is really amazing, it ll improve your creativity. For me I was only using different papers and used to make some drawing on those papers and then coloring them, and I used to write different quotes on them, and I shared those cards with my friends and family, I still have some of those cards. I know my first experience, I gave my card to one of my friend and the other day I took it back because I loved that card very much and I think I was at that time 9 or 10 years lolzzz, what a first card experience....:) Have a nice day...:)

Making homemade cards sounds like a wonder home school project to encourage art and creativity. I'm always looking for unique ways to get my own daughter engaged in her studies. Thanks for the idea.

Thanks for your response. I like to make cards by hand and I also think that it is a nice way to improve our creativity. It is a cute story about your first card I like the idea about writing quotes on the cards. I haven't done that on cards, but when I was younger I often wrote quotes on my letters when I wrote to my friends. At that time I sent handwritten letters to friends and penpals and decorated them with pictures and quotes. Now I usually send emails instead of handwritten letters...

Victorian Christmas card - Little birds and flowers embellish this Christmas card.
I do....I make all kinds of cards and sell them....also use them as gifts. I do rubber stamping....and use flowers and other embellishments. Stamping is my favorite passtime...I just completed and will deliver a big order on Dec. 4....and I am getting a good price for them. I also do craft sales so I sell a bunch there...just finished my Victorian cards....I sold all but two of these.

It is a beautiful card I think it is great that you are able sell your cards. It is a nice way to make some money while you do something that you enjoy. I have also sold some of my cards and some of them I use when I need a card for my friends or my family. I have never tried rubber stamping, but it sounds interesting and I would like to try it.

Some years ago i was making my own hand made cards for Eid Greetings but now i got so much busy i another aspect is that technology has replaced the traditions. Now mostly peoples mostly send an sms message only. We will be celebrating Eid-e-Qurban after 2 days i am gonna miss my those handmade cards. Although i convey my wishes and prayers to my family and friends over internet & cell phones but the happiness i got from my cards is always missing. I never sell off my hand made cards they were only for my loved ones.

It is also my experience that technology has replaced the old traditions in many situations. In the past I received many handwritten and homemade cards and letters, now my friends and I often communicate via emails or text messages instead. It is fast and easy to send an email or a text message, but I sometimes miss the handwritten letters that I used to send and receive. I still make some cards by hand but not as many as I did in the past.

I make my own cards, but I don't do many by hand. I use Photoshop on my computer. The cards that I have made by hand I usually use card stock, scrapbook paper and things like string and ribbon. On the computer I have made many invites for weddings, babyshowers, graduation open houses and birthday parties. Some of the ones I did on the computer I have embelished with ribbon. The ones I make by hand I usually put with a gift to give to someone. I haven't sold any of my cards, but the wedding ones and such were used by others, I just made them for free to help out people I know who couldn't afford fancy bought ones.

Thanks for your response. I have never really used the computer to make cards, but it could be interesting to try it. My husband sometimes makes cards on the computer, and he has made some beautiful cards for me that way. I usually make cards by hand. One year on my birthday I made all the invites by hand. It took a lot of time, but it was fun and every invite was unique.

Hmm..I love making cards too for friends and family. I havent sold them so far. I love making cards from paper quilling. Its a very easy technique and looks beautiful. It hardly takes any time if you're a creative person. Another technique I love is using dried flowers, leaves, stems... You simply have to arrange it in a beautiful way on your card and then stick it in place! Try it and tell me how it goes!

I have never tried paper quilling, but I have seen some pictures of it, and it looks very beautiful. I would like to try that one day. One of my friends also uses dry flowers on the cards that she makes and the result is beautiful. That is another thing that I could try. I like making cards with pictures from magazines, but it is always nice to try something different and experiment with new things. Thanks for your response and your ideas.

I do like making cards. Especially, in iPhoto. The new iPhoto allows you to customize your own card and lets you make your own card. Then you could order it and let them make it for you. The card will arrive in a few days. This is a very wonderous experience. I can do letterpress, pen illusion, or write things like Happy Birthday!

Thanks for your response. It sounds interesting. I have never tried to make cards that way. I usually make cards by hand and I use paper, pictures and things like that. It could be fun to design my own cards on the computer, maybe I should try that one day. It is nice to hear how other people make cards, because we can get new inspiration that way.

You know, I have made a few cards here and there, but you just gave me a really good idea for this year. I think I may try to make some Christmas cards! That is really a good idea, but I may try to use regular pictures that I have taken!

Oh yeah, I love making my own cards for every holiday at home. Especially after my dad got that Cricket machine it is so much fun to use. I make all types of cards for Halloween, birthdays, Christmas and everything. He got all those stamps and the actual cards to get all types of designs so we both use it a lot. I even use it to make labels for the items I make and sell and I make labels for envelopes too.

You know what I haven't done this for such a long time now. I used to do it when I was a kid. I would make cards - personalized birthday cards, Christmas cards, etc. and put cute stickers and I do use colorful pens to write on them. It's a very inexpensive way to brighten someone's day really. And it brings out the creative person out of you too. :) I haven't really thought of selling them because back then they were like kiddie cards LOL. But that sounds like a good idea, come to think of it if you can make a really gorgeous photo and turn it into a greeting card, personalize it and then sell it online. :)
