chicken pox again!!

I grew up in a different country and I don't remember if I ever got any chicken pox. Few years ago when I was in my early 30s, I was diagnosed to have chicken pox. I worked in a residential facility for adolescents at the time. Later on, I found out that one of the adolescents I work with had contracted shingles, which was not told to any staff. What I learned about chicken pox, once you had it, you would not have it again. The virus varicella that caused it would not go away. It will stay dormant in your system. It may or may not trigger any illness for you later in life. If it causes an illness, it would give shingles. Factors that may give you shingles have to do with your life like stress and possibly other illnesses.

Chicken pox is a member of the Herpes virus,(Varicella zoster virus (Herpes varicellae), This in turn can lead to Shingles,(herpes zoster), which is re-activation of the dormant virus. that is weird... i also heard that we can only get chicken pox once in our lifetime and we won't get it again for the rest of our lives once we get it... i never heard a person can get chicken pox for a second time... and the doctor's explanation sounds weird to me too... anyway, hope you will get well soon... take care and have a nice day...

I am sorry to hear that ordecai. As far as i know, we all believe that chicken pox doesn't occur twice, and i don't know to which extent it is true. Maybe something like a mild case before and a strong one the second time ? But you said you were quite sick the first time you caught it. So i don't know what to say, as far as i know i have heard it is better if you catch the disease when you are young, it is worse when it catches you at an older age. Anyways, you take care now friend! I was recently down with typhoid, yeah just the last month. And i caught it twice within two weeks! Okay, so now i am like a jaundice patient, avoiding all oil and spices and eating only boiled food and fruits and stuffs. Man it really sucks if you can't have normal diet. But i don't want to catch typhoid the third time coz i believe i am still not completely stable. I am going to eat boiled food for a month or two until i can start eating normally cooked food again. For me chickenpox is not unusual it is a virus that hit each in every season if your immune system is week your whole life is not work.

Well as far as I know there is only one form of chicken pox but I am no doctor, so what would I know but my son has had this once in a lifetime disease seven times now and when I asked the doctors about that they gave this speech where they said that my son is a carrier for the disease. What a lot of rubbish, I personally think that they say whatever they think will make the person feel better when they don't know the answer themselves. I have heard that you can't get chicken pox twice but that might not be true. I had it when I was a young child. My husband has never had it before. Our child has not had them yet either. So I'm worried if our child ever gets it that my husband might get it too. And I've heard that it's worse for adults than it is for children. I hope you get over it soon and hope you feel back to normal real soon.

ACtually if you did not have a significant case of it when you were little you can get it again when you are older! Also you are susceptible to shingles which I hear is a very painful condition brought on by stress.

I have heard it said that you can't contract chicken pox more than once. I have seen this to be untrue. it all depends on how mild or strong a case of chicken pox you have when you first get it. If it is a mild case, you could very well get chicken pox again.

im sorry for it. maybe the environment turn virus a bit different. anyway im sorry that you had to suffer from that again. here in my country they also said that if we get that and other few ones we dont catch it ever again. but some people say that we can catch again. so im always afraid of catch those deceases again. wish that soon you get ok^^ you dont deserve to be through that bad decease again. i guess it gives a lot of pain. i never catched that. but i can guess.

Hi Ordecai First of all very sorry for you and you may get healthy soon. I agree with you that this can happen more than once in life, they say like this that you ll only suffer once in your entire life but I have seen people who have had this infection twice in their life. I have no idea about the type of chicken pox but it can be like this as doctors already explained to you, it need some search to get the accurate answer, but some time you would have mild infection and some time strong infection, I think it remains for one or two week? but am not sure about this. Prepare well for a long resting period, and do know that you have a lot of pain to endure. Strands of Chicken Pox are may be different, and no two people infected will endure the same pain. Your chicken pox before high school will only limit that certain type, and I really feel sorry that this has to happen again for you. You should have got chicken pox vaccinations that prevented all types of pox. Variety differences are due because of science and physics. The next time any one of you mylot members experience chicken pox, make sure your doctor prescribes vaccinations afterwards. Its a sad reality for many, but prevention is better than cure.
