Hello. I have to buy a WiFi adapter for my PC. But I do not know what adapter exactly. I saw in a shop one USB type and a card type. What do you suggest me, what does have to be the adapter, I want to have the ability to catch a distant signal and to catch it possibly in the best way. I saw there were some 802.11 b and some 808.11 g, which is better? Which type is the best at all? Thanks in advance. I really need to know this.

Hiya dsplay, I don´t know much about Wifi adapters but from what it seems you have to be careful and make sure you buy the right one for your Computer. For example my Tower is way out of date so I would probably not even be able to use it. As for the other Computer if I had it on it has some rare USB plugs on here. I would ask if one of your Friend´s know a Computer Guy who knows all about that. You could end up buying three or four that are no good at all otherwise. Sorry I can´t be of much help I know and understand what you mean but I just can´t get to use them yet.

Thanks for the reply. The idea with the computer guy is good.. If nobody replies to me here with the information for the Wi-Fi, I'll look for someone. Have a nice day. ;)

I use the USB type because I can extend it to anywhere I wants. For the card type,it is not the thing from me since I hand something sticking out of my notebook and sometimes the signal is interfered by other external influences like my mobile.

Unless you're going to keep your PC by the window, you should avoid internal PCI WiFi cards. The problem is that the antenna attaches to the card and sticks out from behind the PC. As well as interference from the power cord, it's difficult to position the antenna for optimal reception/transmission. Of course, there are antenna extension cables, but these weaken the strength of the signal. Your best bet is a USB WiFi dongle which can be extended up to 5m before requiring a repeater. You can reach 30m by cascading powered USB hubs between USB cable runs. Alternatively, you can create a single long run USB cable using UTP cable that only needs powered hubs at either end. Most WiFi adapters are backwards compatible ie. n supports n/g/b, g supports g/b, some support a too which is lesser used.

Get the USB type. Someone else has explained in detail about its advantages over the PCI card type. If it is available at your place, and you can afford it, get one with an extended range. It is worth the extra money, because the signal is stronger. Even though my PC is hard wired, I have one WiFi USB adaptor with a normal range, and one with three times the range.

and another thing is 802.11 g is the advance version of wlan protocol stack.. so better go for the 'g' version.. it will be good for a speedy connection..

hi dsplay5, i haven't heard a wifi adapter like card type.. but let me assume that it is available and you have to fix it to the motherboard.. it will be inside the cpu and will not be seen outside.. if you go for the USB type it may come a cord so you can place it somewhere within 2 or 3 feet, so that to have a better reception and long distance coverage.. so it will be suitable for you..

I do have a WiFi adapter which can go up to 2 KM away without the obstruction. It is made in China. The speed is a bit slow by comparing to other type. Why do you try the ebay? ha! ha! You will discover many fantastic items in ebay. In youtube, you can learn a lot about the WiFi adaptor too. Good luck to you.
