There are cases when teachers use old books but there are usually specific reasons for this. But generally using newer books is the way to go. Aside from the updates and added editing done these generally include new concepts and discussions.

I think old is gold, but the new generation of science accelerate very quickly...though the books of new edition is better developed but the main content of any subject not huge change..if u want to know about any topics at first u can try to read the old version for clear the basic, and then u can find your solutions in new edition books.......

I agree with you that new generation books are more developed than old ones. But I dis agree with you on the point that new generation book accelerate quickly. Such acceleration of matter totally depends upon the way in which the author has written the book. All other such points depends upon the authors view. Concepts will be same in both old as well as new books. Moreover, the level of explanation will be also same. Usually in all the new editions every thing is same only those parts are updated which were difficult as part as explanation part is concerned.

Hi, Actually old or new books is not much different...the best is whether the content of the book is good or not. I believe your teacher know the best which book to teach you guys and don't worry too much if she is using those old books for teaching. As long as the material is relavant to what you guys supposed to learn, then it should be fine.

Both! There are vital information found in the old books as well as the new books. What they have in the new books are additional information regarding a certain topic.

When I was in college I based my decision on the teacher. The newer the book the more it costs. In an effort to keep costs down very often the teacher will look to the old version choice, even if they have to compare it to the newer version themselves. They then would pass the updates to the students. Technology, science, or anything with continuously emerging knowledge are usually the exception to the rule! Happy schooling!

It depends whether there are some updates on the books that have been superseded by the new editions. Because if there are updates or changes, then you'd better use the new editions. But if you know that there are no updates or changes in the principles of the old books? what's the use of the new book? specially if you already have the old one, economically, ceteris paribus, it would be good to have the old one. And if you are still planning to buy a book, which to choose? Get the new edition... That's my personal advice or point of view though! Happy earning! Happy myLotting! God bless you!

new books are better because there are updates that are really important to know and understand these days.

First of all it depends on the fact that what kind of books you are talking about. If they relate to technology then new books are good if they are non technical you should use old and used books. This is because, many students make markings, write notes in the margins, etc. which is useful for us if we use old books. Moreover old and used book cost less to our pockets. Also the resale value of both old and new books after we use them, is same almost. That's why I always give preference to old and used books than to new books. When we talk of teachers, they use their same old books as they could have made markings and could have written down some notes. Also even if the topics are updated, they can easily correct it with pencil and take notes of the updated versions. They need not have to spend money. I think these are reasons. And hope so you could have got your answer. Happy Lotting.

Hi, I suggest you to better use new edition books. Old edition books and new edition may have changed or not, but it is always safe to read the current edition when it comes to exams.Even in your college they follow the current edition if I am not wrong. The exam papers will be set form the current edition. You can follow with your friends and teachers if you use current edition. Good Luck Calpro

Hi.. Chowee you already knowing that I'm also a student. yes what ever you said is correct. because i find it in the new book the content are updated, there you can find the new clarifications, but the main problem is most them are not discussing the things briefly. but if you go through the old books you will find that the theories, the law & the clarifications the brief & they used to discuss the logic as better as possible, so that you can get more options to make your knowledge & answer better... i always in favor of the new book, but i also use the old book for the reference purpose......

Where I live, and where I go to school, the school usually asks you to buy the most recent version of the books we use in class, but usually I find it to be a waste of money because the editions hardly ever differ in content. If I absolutely need to have the new edition for a class, I try to get it used because it's usually expensive. I don't think there's any harm in using an older edition of a book, like 10th edition instead of 11th, or something like that. As with my experience, not much is usually changed between editions.

Good post! Now the answer is that if you are a student from medium class or lower class, it is sapient to purchase older textbook. Mostly new editions are little bit amended. They also can have text moved to other pages. So, for example; if you teacher say adverse possession is listed on page 51, it may be listed on page 34 of your textbook. So, when you buy 2004 edition textbook for $1 instead of new edition for $110, it is very intelligent. However, you have to keep up with you intelligence then. It means, go to book store or check your rich classmate with brand new edition. Check table of contents on your textbook and new textbook, so you have a snapshot of where each content is located in new textbook. Moreover, it is more intelligent to write at least chapters with their assigned pages. So, you can have a list of each chapter to its page. So, whenever you professor refer to topic, you know where to look. Although, if you are rich dady's kid, it is better for you to purchase new one. It will save you this headache, and you can contribute to economy a little bit.

You should always use the book that the teacher recommends. Many times new edition books have added content and the pages are not the same. It also depends on the subject of the class. If you have a class in Microsoft Office 2007, then older edition books on Microsoft Office 2003 won't be able to help you. A good recommendation is to speak to the teacher and see what would be appropriate for the class.
