Give away your umbrella on a rainy day!

Has anyone tried this? My tween daughter and I have learned to carry extra umbrellas in the car. The opportunity to help someone out with an umbrella comes to us quite often. The business man dressed in his nice suit who ducked into the restaurant for a coffee and suddenly it was pouring out, sure seemed to appreciate the umbrella. As did the mother trying to get all her children into the van. She was leaving out just as we were coming in. We wouldn't need that umbrella again. Probably my most favorite experience was when I passed a mother and her children on the side of the road and just as I did a few sprinkles hit the windshield. We actually did not have an "extra" umbrella at that time, but we were inside a nice dry car and they were about to get soaked. I turned the car around and just as the rain began to fall presented her with my brand new umbrella. Then we hurried to the store to buy a few more when the "bottom fell out" of the sky! We bought new umbrellas just in the nick of time and everybody was dry that day. Seriously, try it, it's just a joy and simple gesture. You can get umbrellas for a buck at some stores. They only have to last through that one rain usually. Give away your umbrella on a rainy day. It might just be the one kind gesture they get that day!

wow you are really kind and generous my friend. thats good to hear then it means there are still good people like you who are really doing a great job in helping others. well i havent really gave an umbrella yet but there was this one time that outside our gate was a woman and a baby waiting for a transportation in the mid of a storm. it was really pouring hard and the flood is getting high so what i did is to lend them my umbrella for a while and help them a transportation as fast as we can. i tried to get also the slippers of the kid when it was about to go with the current of the flood. they really look worried and just want to go home and check the other family members. it was really fulfilling in my part to help others

That's awesome, proof that there are a few who still care! I bet that mom was ever so grateful. I wish more people would realize that it does the heart good to help others.

I agree! I guess I like to treat others as I want to be treated even if it seems most people today just do not care. I like to be a rarity in this world.

Hi, Do you ever heard of this phrase? Get ready an umbrella before it starts to rain. When I was young, i hate to bring an umbrella out. Especially to school, I feel shy to carry an umbrella and I really don't know why I have such feeling when I was young. Now, I feel quite normal to have an umbrella at my hand when I was out, I can use it to protect myself against rain and sun. Pretty useful. But I won't share my umbrella with other unless I have an extra pieces if I also need it at that point of time.

WOW! That's so nice of you! I'd love to try that, though I'm a commuter so i can't carry a lot of umbrellas. Plus, umbrellas here cost a lot. If you buy the cheap ones, the easily break when there's strong winds. But I'll try this sometime. My fondest memory was I was on my way home from my client's office. I can't find a jeepney (it's the main public transport here in the Philippines, kinda like a bus, but smaller). The jeepneys bound to where I have to go were too few that by the time I see one, it's already packed! I went back and forth crossing the streets, just so I could find one. I decided I'd ride a cab, but then I can't find an empty one too. Then it started to rain! I forgot my umbrella at home. Good thing I have my jacket, but my jacket's already starting to get soaked bad! Then this nice lady with a big umbrella stood near me shared her umbrella with me. She asked me where I was headed (or what jeepney I'm supposed to ride) and we found out that we were headed for the same direction. After a few minutes we were able to get in one! YAY!

I have seen my dad do that. He had an umbrella, and was coming out of a store. An older woman was slowly pushing her cart to her car, so he gave her the umbrella while he pushed her cart to her car. When she tried to give the umbrella back after he loaded her groceries for her, he refused and told her to keep it.

Wow, this is a really noble and brilliant idea. I never thought about it. But yeah, it will surely make people smile and brighten up their rainy days. And you gain friends as well, and blessings will be pouring down like rain on you. God bless you for your kind heart. I will try this definitely. Let me buy a few more extra umbrellas first. Cheers!

I love your stories!! I am sure everyone enjoys receiving those tiny shelters, and very light weight to carry wherever you go! I usually do not carry an unbrella with me. I try to show people that are afraid to go into the rain it is alright to go out into it by going into it myself in my calm demeener. those are a God sent gift to people that are stuck with no place to go. Keep up the Lord's work as His messenger!!!

I appreciate your empathy and generosity to others! I have never heard of such good intentions especially umbrellas. Even hotels or malls don't give umbrellas for free. It is sure quite a pleasure to have helped others because I too have done good deeds and I know how it feels. I didn't really know people from United States are this kind :) Happy lotting!

Hi, I really appreciate your concern towards the fellow people. I do try to help the people but never thought in these lines, like carrying an extra umbrella. When I were in school I used to carry extra pencils to give it to my classmates when they need to sharp their pencils. It remind me of that. I shall try to follow this and try to help people in a new way. Thank you Good luck, God bless you Calpro
