Holidays You Don't Have

So tomorrow (or today depending on when you are reading this) is Thanksgiving in America. Canada also has Thanksgiving, but it comes before our Thanksgiving. So what holidays do you have in your country, that maybe the U.S. or Canada (or others) doesn't have? Maybe you are the only country who celebrates it. And I'm talking mainly about big holidays. So what is the holiday, and can you tell me about it?

we dont have thanksgiving here in the Philippines but we have Christmas. Christmas is our biggest holiday here since most of us are catholics who beleive in the birth of Jesus Christ. since the first ber month, which is spetember, people are already preparing. we having countdowns already, christmas tree, lights and so much more. sometimes, we just pass by halloween and just visit our love ones. we also have midnight masses to honor the coming of Jesus and we have the famous foods that are served usually on Christmas only. Christmas is truly the best and most exciting event of the year for all the Filipinos.

I would love to prepare for Christmas so early. Sometimes I'm disappointed we only have a month to enjoy the season. I mean we could put up Christmas decorations in October or November, but it would stand out. Most people have their Thanksgiving decorations out. The day after Thanksgiving people seem to start preparing for Christmas with great gusto. And like you, I don't forget the real reason of the season - Jesus Christ's birth.

And there are some fiestas here in the Philippines. My most favourite is the SINULOG Festival. It is usually on the 3rd Sunday of January. It honours Sto Nino. It is a grand festival. There are many people on the streets. There are lot of dances on the streets too.

We dont celebrate thanksgiving in the UK, but we have something called bonfire night. I dont know if you can call it a holiday, but it stems from a man called Guy Fawkes who tried to assassinate the King of England by blowinng him up with gunpowder so that his next in line would instead be queen. His attempts were in vain though, as he was caught before the explosion happened. He was hung drawn and quartered for his crime. So now, rather sadistically, we burn scarecrows on bonfires and have lots of fireworks every 5th of November to...erm...celebrate the fact that he didnt manage to do what he was trying to do. (As you may have guessed, we're not all that patriotic. Many people here couldn't even tell you when or what St George's day is!)

The Spring Festival and Mid-autumn Festival are the most important festivals in my country. I think this celebration may be available in some Chinese zones. They are also the official holidays for us. Besides it, we also have some festivals like Lantern Festival, Dragon Boat Festival and so on. They are the traditional Chinese festivals. I love China

We don’t have Thanksgiving and the only holiday that I can think of that is unique to Australia is the 26th January which is Australia Day. I think it is about the First Landing in 1788. It is a public holiday every year and there is a huge fireworks display sponsored by one of the radio stations. Everyone gathers on the foreshore and enjoy celebrations and eventually the sky show display.

Hi, Back in my country in Malaysia, there is no ThanksGiving holiday,so definitely tomorrow is not a Holiday for us. Firstly, I wish everyone " Happy Thanksgiving day". We only have Christmas Day and it is coming soon in another month time. For me, no celebration for Christmas..just like a normal day for me to go and this year no holiday plan at all. We are out of budget for holiday for this year.

just like what yanyanyow said, here in the Philippines, we don't celebrate Thanksgiving. But we do have festivities for saints. We call it fiesta. It is a day to honor a certain Saint who is guiding a certain town, like feast for San Miguel, Feast for San Lorenzo, and many more. We do prepare much for it. These are the festivals even foreigners would love to see. Let's say for instance the Ati-atihan Festival where people dances in the street with bodies covered with coal, all black! and Maskara Festival where people wear masks in their faces. That's just to name a few.
