As the Philippine Lottery's 6/55 pot prize surpassed Php500M and now almost reaches Php600M, a congressman seeks to put a cap on lotto's winning prize up to Php500M and donate the excess to charitable institutions. Now question is would you agree to this proposal or not? and why?

Sure by all means since I don't play lotto. One UP professor of statistics said that the possible combination of that 6/55 is 28,989,675 numbers and if you will bet on all those combinations, the total amount that you need would be amounting to Php 579,793,500 , which is almost like you gained only a few amount since the jackpot price now is Php 633 million pesos . So it is just right to put a cap on that amount. Just give the money to different charities. I do believe that there are more hungry stomachs and people who don't have their own livelihood. It is important to use that money to spend reaching out poor provinces and towns, not just to be pocketed by corrupt officials of course.

I totally agree with you. Besides, the extra cash could be diverted to make additional classrooms for our public schools. Classrooms and other facilities are badly needed in our basic education institutions. Not to mention the need for quality teachers also.

I agree with one suggestion made by one of the texters in teleradyo. He suggested that they make the consolation prizes go up when the pot money hasnt been won yet. This will somehow lower the pot money if the consolation prizes are won.

hmmm.. Sounds good. However, I think somehow statisticians will fully not agree with that.

I believe that it is in the prerogative of whoever wins the prize to decide where to put his winnings. Let the congressmen make laws on what is important than putting interest on the lotto prize.

I agree. But not on the cap line of 500M since the pot money already exceeded it. They should put a cap higher that the pot money now and inform it first to the public. Anyways, where will they get that much money, that money almost reaching up to a billion. It might come from the government funds which instead of using it for the GENERAL welfare of all the filipinos or which should be use to lessen our debt to the IMF, it will be leisurely used by 1 OR FEW filipinos who might won the pot money.

Why should they limit a person's ability to make money and do as he wishes with it? If he wants to donate it to charity fine , if he does'nt then why force him when he betted fair and square with his hard earned money to beat the odds ? This country is a democracy, besides a certain portion of lotto earnings already goes to charity. They should be discussing how to put a cap on their pork barrel instead and how to spend it wisely, I think that will do the country better.

the cap on their pork barrel has already been discussed, or at least some solons suggested that they will be lowered and diverted to other necessary government projects... although I haven't followed up what happened to that. It'll be worth the research though. :)

I would not because in the lotto ticket there is an alloted amount or there is already a certain percentage deducted to the price of the ticket which goes directly to some charitable institutions and other government agencies to help them in there projects.Besides this is not the fault of the bettors or the agency which run the lotto because no one ghuess the winning number yet...And in the coming draw if a bettor picks the winning combination then its u to him to give to whoever he/she wants to help...

Thats no fair D: what if the prize pot reach a billion. It should be the prize winner's decision on how much donations he/she will give.. Well Im not into Lottos annyway, but Im so sure that they will take something from the money... I doubt that they will donate the donation funds a hundred percent... They are just doing this to gain more money.

Why put cap?that would be inexcusable, people bet and government gaining percent from this thing so why put cap. They already get the necessary percent they need to why interest to the bigger amount. Well politicians are politicians like money magic.hhehe
