HAs any one here been told tht thier potasium is ? Went yestrday to DOc for the follow up after stents put in my legs. My reg do out of town so had to see another one. and he asked me had I been told my potasium is high. Nope no one said a word so now first of week have to go get blood work done AGAIN! TOld me not to eat bananas ohhhhhhhhh I love them but hadnt ate any in awhile. OK how to eat with out getting more potasium impposible every thing has potasium in it. So now what nothing for me to eat and I cant go on a veggie diet wont work I would not stay on it long for I get tired of veggies. Aslo said I have soemthing wrong with kidneys ok knew that they had thought about putting a stent in there but really didnt want to because viens so small so we passe that up. Why is it they ALWAYS find something else wrong? He also said that if it gets to high they can adjust pills I take or have to take anothr darn pill I will have to think about this one.

Sorry to know about your health problems again, old age itself is kind of disease, i have never known any body who has high potassium problem.. Due to high BP my wife is given a salt substitute 'LONA;, LO for low ana NA for sodium, because sodium in sodium chloride (common salt) is responsible for increasing blood pressure In place of sodium chloride they recommend potassium chloride, so she takes this too, she is too fund of ripe banana lol Thank you so much for sharing. Get well soon. Professor ‘Bhuwan’. . Cheers have a lucky day ahead. God bless you. Welcome always.

Hi lakota, a friend is having kidney problems and was asked to take potassium. So even in the middle of the night if she feel unwell her hubby knows that her potassium is low so he rush to get bananas for her. I have not heard of people with high potassium. I always thought that I need to have potassium to avoid kidney troubles so I regularly take bananas. Reading from your problems I should be limiting myself from taking too many bananas. I hope the doctor can dispense medication to keep your potassium under control. Take care.

I have to be careful of bananas because of the high glucose. And even though I do not have the problem you have, sometimes all those you cannot have that, makes it harder then having the doc say "well here are some foods you can eat and after that I will tell you what you should avoid, but do they do that? No. So now you have to go to the grocery or go to food sites and find lists of ingredients in the food you eat. I wonder if beans have potassium in them. And I would not want to be a veggie either.

I love beans. I really have to make some more chili, and it will be turkey chili this time. I do not know off hand of any food that is potassium free, but if there is one, it is probably devoid of any minerals or vitamins such as white flour, corn starch, nd that would not be healthy. I suppose if you go on the net and put in "foods with no potassium" that might help, but you might have to enclose it in quotation marks.

My dad was recently told his potassium was too low. And the doctor advised him to eat bananas. He was getting a lot of leg cramps, and the reason was his potassium was low. I hope you won't have to take another pill and that it can be fixed naturally.

I haven't heard that. For others, what I have mostly heard is it can be too low. I know it is a sign of a problem with kidneys. I would take the pills. Better that than getting really sick, hope it all works out!

Perhaps they need to put you on a "water pill" that always seems to reduce potassium...

I've never heard of anyone having high potassium, I've heard low potassium, which is what I had one time, now I'm on potassium pills. I don't know what you would do for high potassium, I guess like they told you, quit eating bananas..ha. I like bananas too, thats prob about the only fruit I'll eat. Well I hope they figure out what to do for you, I know I hate taking pills too, but they always seem to find a reason to give you another one don't they...

My heavens,Girl! You have a stent here and one there. I might bring to your attention that beet greens are very good for the kidneys. Helps flush them of toxins and such. Boil the greens and drink the juice. Also the beets are good for you. Here is a link of items that are low and one of those that are high in potassium. Hope it helps. Good luck to you. How you get regulated soon. (I would be having nightmares will pills all around.)

Hello my friend Lakota12 Ji, My suggestion is not to visit Doctors till you are taken by someone to Doctor for any energency. These Doctors are Universally sitting only to make Bills. So they introduce all that they were taught during the course. next, we have been Vegetarians since our rememebrence, never take Onion and garlic even, never took any eggs, forget about meat/fish/chicken etc. But we are healthy going with leafy vegetables. May God bless You and have a great time.

WIth DOctor follow up I found out about the potasium being to high I know DOctors push pills but to I think I should have been told at the hospital not a week later at the Docs office. I do like soem leafy veggies but to et nothing but them would be bland to me.

Lakota- That's interesting because my husband's potassium is always running low and he eats a ton of food high in potassium. They said it is because of the blood pressure medication he takes. Here is a good article from the Mayo Clinic on Hyperkalemia (High potassium). Hope it helps. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/hyperkalemia/MY00940 Namaste-Anora

I have low potasium, however my father did have high potasium as well. Not to scare you but high potasium can be very dangerous. I know how frustrating it is to have to add even more pills to your daily regiment...as I have to take a bunch as well. My dad had to be very careful for about a month or so. My dad loves bananas as well and was upset that he had to stop eating them. His potasium is now finally under control, but he goes often to have his blood monitored just to be double sure.

I believe they had him on medicine. I know they never could really figure out why it went so high so quickly. They got it back down, however a few months later, it went up again. It is hard when doctors can't find out why..and I know it was all driving us a bit crazy. He did have to give up certain foods until it went back under control. Now he does get it checked often, and it has always been okay except for those two episodes. I hope they get yours under control quickly, and hopefully it will stay that way for good!
