FIFA World Cup 2018......Surprise(s)??!!

To all FIFA World Cup fans, Russia has just won to host the 21st FIFA World Cup tournament. I am sure that there are a lot of disappointed countries namely hot favorites England who sent a walloping £15million bid and spearheaded by star studded casts David Cameron, Prince William and David Beckham – didn’t even get past the first round, securing only 2 out of 22 votes. If this is not shocking enough, whatever followed by FIFA President, Sepp Blatter is really going to rock the soccer world. He announced that Qatar, a tiny desert country which has never even qualified to play in the World Cup, would host the 2022 tournament, beating bids from Australia, the United States and a joint bid from Japan and South Korea. Honestly, since the perpetual denial of technology into the game I already had a bad aura with this character (Sepp Blatter) and now this bizarre, out of this world declaration. How warp can this world be? FIFA World Cup, that is! Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1335188/World-Cup-2018-England-lose-bid-mafia-state-Russia.html

In fact I don't have an objection to this result. Probably Russia has never held the World Cup. And Russia is the biggest country in the world and its soccer is not weak. So it is time for them to hold the World Cup. As to Qatar, it will be a surprise for a Middle Country to hold the World Cup. It will give us a fresh feeling. Besides, it will be good for the soccer to develop in more countries. I am quite impressed by the stadium design in Qatar. They have good finance to hold a successful World Cup. Why not give a chance to it? I love China

youless, I think there is quite a shroud of mystery as to how the awards went and Qatar just tipped the iceberg. I just hope that it was fair.

I don't know how the players will cope with the heat in Qatar!

Hi guys I think they are planning to have all the stadiums fully airconditioned! I think it will be an exciting difference in football. They could just pull off a great big surprise just like South Africa, which to me held one of the most exciting World Cup I have ever witnessed!

maybe fifa give chance to all "qualified" country to held world cup, not only country that had played in world cup. but Fifa still have criteria not without thinking choose the country. if im not wrong, rusia give free transportation fee for the world cup participant, maybe that become some consideration. and for qatar, we know qatar a small rich country and it has capability to held worldcup.

@rs1lencer, I believe there's a need for more stringent and transparent vetting and selection process. The current management is really getting incompetent beyond comfort. I hope that something would be done or we would be seeing a good game go down the drain. Take care.

@laviejo, Talk about fair play on the field and look at FIFA off the field with this prolific tournament's hosting rotation. Shame on them.

This is one of the things what FIFA does when it comes to choosing a country as host of the World Cup: the continental rotation system, which means that the next world cup host must be from a different continent of the previous host. Also FIFA values more countries that never have the chance of hosting the World Cup, rather than countries that already hosted the World Cup once.

Clearly the Russians managed to out bribe everyone else. The result was decided in advance, why else would Putin not bother going? Obviously he already knew what the result was going to be.

jwfarrimond, I am sorry but let's not mention bribe here because it is just so indecent. In a way, I believe or would like to believe that the money involved is needed for the hosting budget. But, it seems like FIFA took it to the next level as far as corruption is concern with this rotation selection. It just looks bad on everybody in FIFA.

No surprises at all. It confirms FIFA likes dealing with fellow mafiosi. The third place of Holland/Belgium did surprise me. I had expected England to come in at least second place. Thanks to Dutch government for wasting 12 million euros!

diamania, Not being condescending, I wonder if this is the right time for any European countries to bid especially when the finances needed are so tight. Still, FIFA needed to be fair and should not go behind every legitimate bidders' backs and played them like that. Believe me, I really feel sorry for those who wasted monies in this bidding. IMO, fair play is absent here.

No surprises.. England was hot favourite but Russia outplayed them winning the bid. Why would a country get bid to host multiple times ? There are so many countries all over the world. Most of them never got the chance to bid to host the event. And the event occurs only once in four years. SO to cover 200 countries it would take 800 years to give the chance to all of them. In this case why the countries wil get the chance to host who had got earlier once ?

rafaelnadal007, I wonder how this game could ever improve when it can be corrupted from the start. FIFA really needs to be audited and be independently checked from time to time. I do not know about you but I feel that the management of FIFA really need a major overhaul and that they do it soon before it gets out of control. I just hope that this beautiful game will not be deteriorating.

@oldchem1, Fair play is certainly strewn out of the window, as far as this hosting rotation and selection is concern. Shame on FIFA. I hate to say this but it certainly seems like money talks, here.

It does seem to have been rather corrupt, there were supposed to be lots of votes for England prior to the actual vote, stinks of bribery and corruption to me!

This is evidence that the FIFA fair in allowing all the countries in the world to host, including Qatar which has never followed the world cup. Russia deserves to host the World Cup 2018 because of his struggle to beat England in the voting, of course, a very exhausting struggle. congratulations for Russia
