Do you cook for yoursef?

India

I am living single in my room. sometimes I go to hotel and some other day I go to people's home as a guest and sometimes I cook by myself. I think cooking is not a hard work at all. It is very easy to prepare some fast food. I like to prepare "Khichdi". It is an Indian word and refers to a dish prepared by mixing the rice and other beans or vegetables in the same jar. I have just put the jar on the stove and then I came to mylot to start a discussion. Do you prepare food for yourself, and how much do you like it? I like it but sometimes can't find the time.

I can understand your situation. I think it is good for you to cook the food for yourself. You can prepare anything of your own choice so it is the first advantage. Other advantage is that you are getting the practice to become a good cook, so in bad times you can support yourself.

Hi dear, As I am surrounded with the family atmosphere, for me there is no need of cooking. But I like cooking and I know many of the items to cook. I do cooking in veg and non veg items also. The only compulsory factor is that I need all the ingredients and raw materials ready with me and no one should be around with me while I am cooling, means I will make my own way and a helping hand will make me messy. Thank-s

It is good to have a help with the activities like cutting the vegetables, onion or other stuff. I have no one here so I do everything by myself.

Hi dear, For many, cooking is a boring thing, unless it is based on a commercial purposes. Yes, many will accept it. But there are few short cuts to make it enjoyable. Whatever we do, do it by enjoying the same. Because, if we do everything with hatred and boring mood, we never can do it peacefully. However, we need to do it, so if we approach a pleasant approach, we can enjoy all the associated work with regard to cooking, like washing, cutting, boiling, etc etc. Thanks for your comments. One of my colleague resigned and joined in my company. In fact, yesterday, when we were having lunch together, I just asked him 'do you know cooking', then he started saying, 'no', this is the reason why we are here together. In his earlier office, he was supposed to give promotional test compulsorily as it is mandatory for the bank where he was working. He just skipped the exams, or purposively and carelessly appeared the exam, where he has to go. He said, if he clears the exam, he will promote to the next level which is associated with a transfer. If he is transferred to any other place, he needs to take away with his family also. However, his boss was knowing it and he helped him to eliminate from exams. Then once his boss resigned the position, my colleague also had to resign. Any way, he is happy here with us and the story of cooking goes like this…………… Regards, Thank-s

Awww. I don't cooks for myself. I made a shoutout on Facebook, few weeks ago about my self made buettered steak I made for dinner which my bf said tasted good enough for a beginner like me. I like to try cooking foreign dished, they really look tasty and it summons the hidden cooking spirit in me. LOL! In summary, I really don't know how to cook and neither cooks for myself.

Hi Jaguar, I can understand your situation. I was in the college but at that time I was provided with the Mess facility, but the food was not good. I am alone now and I feel free when to cook and what to cook. It feels good. After reading your name I remember a game named Age of Empires 2. DO you play that game? Or do you know about the Jaguar Warriors?

Hi Sanjay, Even stay alone in a flat away from my family. Yeah its very difficult to stay away and the most importantly miss the home food. I am fed up eating outside in restaurants and really don't want to eat there. But sometime do not get the time to cook at home and then have to eat. When you say "Cooking" not hard work, I agree with you but problem is cleaning utensils after eating is certainly a task which I hate most. And about KHICHADI, its my favorite dish, easiest and fastest to cook. Happy myLotting and all the best for cooking

Lol..:) yeah cleaning is what even I don't like. I use the minimum number of the utensils I can manage with. After cooking and eating I put hot water in all of them.

Yeah, I do. Uusally, I make the breakfast for myself and at weekend, I prepare the dinner. :) I love cooking. It has so much fan. And my cooking is not bad, so often I find them delicious, though sometimes they're not so good. Yeah, it take a certain time to cooking. We need to find the time to do so.

That is a good practice even if you don't find time.If People don't find the time then can limit their cooking only in weekends like you. :) I wish you good luck and a very nice day ahead.

Since i still have two teenagers living at home, there is no danger of having to cook for myself. I probably still would cook for myself if i was alone. I do enjoy cooking no matter what.

I am actually preparing for my own lunch especially if I don't like the meal here at home. Because right now I must be careful on my health especially for the diet. I am using olive oil just for myself. It really take time for me to chop those little pieces like the garlic and onions. Wow it seems that you have plenty of money that you can even go to hotel just to eat.
• India
6 Dec 10
I respect your efforts to cook by yourself when you don't like the meal at home. I am not a very rich person but I can go to hotel at least one time in a whole day. I don't go to five star hotels I am talking about the small hotels in my town. Where you can get food for less than $1. Thank you and have a nice day.

I rarely cook for myself. Usually I cook according to the taste of my husband and child. Some times I need to cook separate dishes for both of them. So I do not get time to cook in accordance with my taste. Thus I sacrifice myself for my husband and child without making my favorite items.

You are a very good mom and wife to sacrifice your own taste. It always happens in the family that one person like one dish but the other don't. Thank you and have a nice ahead.

I love to cook. Although I do not have much recipe in mind, I always try to discover new things. Between me and my wife, I am a better cook. I do surprise her at times with some new dishes. If I am given the chance to cook more often, then I would surely do. But work most of the time prevents me from doing so. But if I am at home, and I am free, then I do prepare some food not only for myself but for my family as well.

I also try new recipes lol. It is fun to do that but sometime it is wastage of the material if the experiment fails. :) I wish you good luck and have a nice day ahead.

I love cooking and I am always cooking from scratch at home. I don't really like to go to fast food places to eat because it makes me ill and I am allergic to certain hormones in food. My allergy makes it very hard to eat at certain places so I just cook at home the way that I like and what I like. I love to cook Plov it is a Russian dish I learned to cook from my ex husband and also I love making home made Pelmini another Russian dish sort of like a ravioli and I make the dough and everything myself. It is really enjoyable for me to cook at home and have friends or family over to see their reactions to what I have made for them.

Hi there! Yes. As a housewife, its really an essential thing if you knew how to cook because from this, I'll be able to save a lot instead of buying food outside, its much better if I could prepare food myself. From this, I could be sure that what I will prepare will be clean, safe and healthy. Cooking is not a tedious task for me. As a matter of fact, its one of my favorite thing to do and I really enjoy doing this stuff ever since. Have a nice day!

Although it is my mom who cooks for us, I love cooking food sometimes especially when I want to eat low calorie food sometimes, or sometimes when I have an interest in eating noodles or spicy food. I concentrate a lot when I cook and see to it that whatever I cook is healthy by adding very little oil and exact salt quantities with good taste.

I think you are a good cook. It is important to put the right amount of quantities. Thank you and have a nice day ahead.

I sometimes cook for myself , but prefer if the food is made by someone else because I rarely have enough time for this.

Well, sometimes that is also the case with me, so I prefer some hotel in my closet to have the food served fast to me.
