I am college student. As i student i have some books and manuals. Every time i go to school i bring some books. When my professors give assignments, I did not use my books instead i go the net cafe where i will do my assignments by simply doing a search..Now a days, Are books is really a must or its already the net?? My teachers said that they prefer books rather than surfing the net.. Are the contents in the net can be considered as a reliable source of informations or not???

my dear friends.. i am also a college student and i too want to discuss here. lets discuss which is best. From my side what i do is i am using book as primary source and internet as kind of help.. may to solve a problem which i am unable to solve, may to find a solution to some problem. Books which are published are those written my really really knowledgeable peoples and might have gone under several editions to provide correct contents where as we really can't assure that the content provided are really worth on internet. i mean we will get many search results in internet. But some times we can also get book itself on net in PDF format, in that case it is worthy.

the information or the content in the net is as reliable as the one in the book.the difference just exsite in the form that the information are collected.in fact ,the information in the net is very flourisher and richer than that in the book.but that which one is better depends on the people's favorite usually.

do what my on did. either get the ebook version of the books you need, or rent the books. this way it will keep your cost down. some teachers really do want you to only work from the book on somethings. but i think the internet is a great place to get to research information

Not everything on the net is right. Except for some websites, the other basically host the author's idea on a subject than the actual fact. Now what the author mentioned also might be right, but it again depends on the person's perspective and such. If they want to know about what the people are saying and know about other's opinion, then I think researching the websites is a very good option. But if you are looking for entirely right information then books are the best source as they are pre screened before they are published to the audience unlike websites and blogs. bourne

There are some very reliable items on the internet. When doing a search for college, it won't hurt to check what you find on the internet in a few books as well, just to make sure the information is the same. I can see why professors would prefer you to use the books for your information. I am sure it is a lot faster by using the internet. In our area one of the school districts is planning on getting rid of all their books and using the internet. It sure would be nice, but a problem still exists, not everyone has a computer in this day and age, so that means they have to do all of there work at school or the library. Good luck to you.

Contents in the net are reliable to an extend. Still it is better to refer text book if the assignment is an older topic or a topic in the text book. If you need new information it is better to search the net. Some of the information in th net may not be reliable. it depend on the site no which you are looking. Anyway in my school days i dont have to look much on net. Most of the information was in some of the reference book itself.

I would say that the majority of the information on the Internet is more or less accurate, but there are some pages that may come up in a search that are not. I read in the newspaper here in the UK several months ago that some uni. students had found incorrect information and that the Internet should not be trusted when studying, but I can't fully agree with that. I have researched many things when I have been writing articles and webpages that have been correct, but there again I have found some health-advice pages that have been way off the mark. So, I tend to double-check any information I may get just to make sure. _Derek

I write articles and do a great amount of online research. I will tell you that the difference in sites and information is anormous. I can understand why the teacher wants you to use your books. The books information stays constant where the online search is questionable at best. To be sure your information online is correct you really have to do alot of site searching to be sure that your information is correct. I was writing an article afew months back and found information telling me the main subject was the oldest and the youngest of three children. You can't just go with one site and hope for the best. You have to delve in and seek out several sites to be assured you have the right information. Takes more time than just going to your book.

I think that it's important to get the best of both worlds! The Internet I think can be thought of as a more reliable source probably as it's constantly being updated. However, books are also important and should not be ruled out completely. I think that everyone is different and will have their individual preferences regarding this. I'm a book work and in terms of study I will always favour the physical book over the Internet. Good luck with your studies. Andrew

that's a good question. i like the way you do assignments. what would take minutes to find answers in a book would barely take seconds in the net. however, i also know why your teachers prefer books. usually it's doctors who write those books and no doctor, license, degree and all would normally publish his work online primarily for the reason that his time is paid for. as for other forms of doctors usually they might say it's always a case to case situation that needs personal follow-up and that's also true. anyway i also realized that not all necessary and qualified information are all online. this is why even though online books is now available the favorite titles of readers aren't and i doubt it ever would be. we still have to buy those books. online knowledge is direct to the point. but there is no particular person qualified enough that anyone can go after if the knowledge proves wrong.

I generally prefer books but when I use to study for project or want more informations and details i take help of the net. The benefit of net is the variety. Lots of things are available and there are choices to take. But I like to study from books during exam time because it is short and to the point only. Books are good but sometimes informations are not sufficient

Yes, I prefer to have the real book. The data and the information in the internet can be sabotaged and become false information. I personally feel that i can read the book longer than the computer monitor. Assignment wise should not be a problem to go online. It is good too so that the students can be ensure doing their assignment by themselves.

It depends really. For me,books will always be the best but at the same time, when coming to searching for something, internet does come in handy. i am lazy :)

I think you will waste more money on the internet cafe's just for the sake of a little information which you can otherwise get from the books. I agree that internet is very helpful source now-a-days but also remember that internet is full of garbage dumped all over it. You cannot always rely on the information derived from the internet unless it is from a trusted source. It all depends upon you if you are comfortable working in cafe's and don't have issues with money its okay, But it would be better to have a computer at home with internet connection anytime. And also remember don't neglect books and depend entirely on internet as having hard copy books does have great advantages over the soft copies of internet files.

For me books & manuals are still preferable rather than surfing the net because books & manual contain reliable info. Books contain number of references to which one ca rely and access by visiting the college library without paying any cost surfing the net is not possible for all the students. I am studying in a Government college in a backward District which has a very good library but no internet facility in IT section. The Resident scholars in boys/girls hostel face various problems to go to internet cafe for surfing the net due to various factors like money, time and security reasons. hence they prefer books and manuals from hostel library which is free of cost.

I prefer books, but the internet is a good source of info as well. Books are more reliable than the net as there a lot of useless and inaccurate info on the net. but if you have the reputable internet site, its just as good. But books are easier on your eyes than monitors

Hi, chowee! You can almost find everything on the internet, but be aware that not all information from internet is correct. But with basic sense and knowledge, you can simply judge whether a piece of info is reliable, I think.

I prefer reading the book. It is more practical and convenient for me to do so. It is also more concise for me. I do researches on the internet when I like to search for other stories about the subject that I don't see in the books. ;)

the information you will be getting from the books and the net are the same but its an easier task to go through the net to have any kind of information rather than to go through a lot of books...moreover you can have a very detailed information in the net in less time as far as books are concerned you have to go through each and every book of the related topic and may result in failure, further resulting in waste of time..net is very useful for detailed information though and books will also help you a bit in gathering in the information...better to go through both of them..

I like researching on the internet. The only thing wrong with doing that is that information posted on the internet can be false. There is probably false information in books too, but more so the internet.
