If you want to rent or buy an apartment do you prefer a ground floor apartment or a top floor apartment? If you want to rent or buy a house do you prefer a one story house or a two story house? Why? In your opinion what are the advantages and the disadvantages about the different kind of homes? (ground floor/top floor, one story house/two story house etc) My friend and I both live in one story houses. My friend is very happy about that, but I prefer two story houses or top floor apartments. I have always been attracted to tall houses and I love to enjoy the view from the top of the building. I am going to move in February and my new home is a two story building. I am an artist and I plan on a making an atelier uptairs where there is lots light and a nice view. I have lived a couple of different top floor apartments in the past. I have liked them all, the only thing I don't like is the hassle when you have to move the furniture

I love two story house. because you get a wonderful view on the top of the house. specially if there is a terrace.. its so lovely and nice if the house or apartment is facing the sea or a river.

It is has always been one of my dreams to have a house with a terrace or a balcony, because I think that is a great way to enjoy the view. I have have never lived in a house that was facing a sea or a river, but it must be lovely to have that kind of view. When I was working in the home health care team I visited many patients and saw many different houses. Some of the those houses faced a lake, and the view was really beautiful. It must be amazing to live at a place like that

I would never want to live in a two story house. Utilities are much higher. Upstairs is always hot while the downstairs always cold. If you have maintenance, that two story is much harder to work on. Easier to break your neck on that tall ladder. Moving all that furniture upstairs is no fun either. Some people like them but not me. If renting an apartment, I will always choose downstairs. The only thing that might be good about a two story would be the view out a window.

It is true there are negative things about two story houses. Moving the furniture upstairs is one of the things that I don't enjoy. I once lived in the top apartment in a huge house. I liked the apartment, but the stairs were very narrow and moving the furniture was such a hassle. The couch got stuck in the middle of the stairs, we couldn't get it up and we couldn't get it down either. A friend came over to help and we finally managed to move it, but it was no fun...

i live in a two story apartment where the first floor is given for rent and i live in the ground floor.. It is required that we build two floored houses, because everybody in the neighborhood are having two story building or a duplex, so it will look odd if we are living in a single story building...By the way, we are the first one to build a two story house in my neighborhood and many followed us...

In my country I think that the opposite situation is more common. In many cases people are only allowed to build one story houses, because a two story house might disturb the neighbours, because the house is too close to the fence or because the ground is considered too small for a two story house. Some of those rules sound a but strange and they are hard to understand.

I have lived in a lot of different dwellings. Two story houses may look grand, but i still like a one story house. there are no stairs to climb and that can make life so convenient.

I have also lived in many different houses. I have lived in apartments, in one story houses, in two story houses and in one three story house. My friend also likes one story houses and she finds them more convenient, as it is hard for her to climb the stairs and I can easily understand that. Personally I like two story houses, and the house that we have bought is a semi-attached two story house

for me i prefer two storey house.because i just like it.its disadvantage is if you have children at home. they tend to use the stairs as their "playmate".

I grew up in a two story house, and I loved to play on the stairs. I thought that it was a great place to play, but my parents didn't agree

i'd prefer to own a house, rather than have it rented, also i'm not much of a fan of apartments, because of the neighbours.. if you have a house, is way better. i believe that ground floor apartments are better than the top floor, because when is summer, and if you like in top floor apartment, you'll be like in an oven, trust me, i visited a friend one day and i was sweating the hell out of me. so my advice would be, if you want to have an atelier, own a house, or take an apartment that's on the ground floor, even though you might not have much of a view. but you can always go to the roof of the block to see the sights ;)

I also like to have my own house instead of renting a place. At the moment my husband and I live in a house that we have rented, but from February we are going to live the house that we just bought. I am really excited about it, and it will be a new experience for me. You are right about the top floor, it can get hot there during the summer months. Fortuneately I live in a relatively cold climate. During the the summer months the weather gets quite hot sometimes, but it is not that hot compared to many other countries.

I am with you. By the way, I'm a son of a businessman. My room looks like a hotel room or a suite, but it is located at the ground floor. I am the only member of the family who lives in this floor. It also look kinda great because I feel like I'm in a high rise building, very convenient and neat. I prefer top floor too because I also like the view and it's cool riding an elevator everyday. Well I'd like a condominium or an studio type apartment where it is cozy and where I am all alone everyday of my entire life. I love your idea as well.

Your room sounds great. In one of the houses where I lived with my parents, my brother and I had our own floor. We lived in a 3 story building and on the top floor where I brother and I lived there were two rooms and a bathroom. Yes, one of the advantages about the top floor is the view, and I love looking at the view from the window. I like to sit by the window and read or look at view while I am talking on the phone.

If I have a perfect house (and the money to realize it) the description would be like this - it has to have a view, has to be a one storey or one floor only (cleaning three stories of a building is not fun), has a space for a bunch of bookshelves, a tub and a nook 9that can serve as a workstation), airy with lots of light, minimum furniture (except for the bed) and if possible, a sky light. Good luck to your new home!

If i will be asked if which type of house i prefer to live, That is a one -story house. I dont want houses those are two to three-story because i feel scared living such that type of house honestly speaking. I enjoy living with one-story house with three to four bedrooms, one kitchen, one living room and 4 comfort room with each comfort room in each bedroom. I am not wishing for such large house.

I don't want a large two story house either. My husband and I are both busy with work and other activities and we don't have time to clean, repair etc a big house. The house that we have bought is a two story house, but it is not very big. Downstairs there is a kitchen and a living room and upstairs there are 3 bedrooms and a bathroom.

i like topfloor apartment.i felt superior if im on that floor.

of course, i would choose the 2 story house.. aside from it's view, you can also put up more rooms because it has a lot of space.. regarding the appartment you're renting. yes, i also love the top floor ones because i enjoy the sky and the city view. :D but if you want safer one, go for the ground floor.. so that in case of earthquake, you can easily run. :D

That is true, the ground floor is often safer for instanse in case of an earthquake or a fire. It is easier to get out, but it is also eaiser to get in, and some insurance companies ask for more money if you live in a ground floor apartment because of the greater risk of burglary. So I guess there are advantages and disadvantages about both things.
