but the mall was evacuated when the foundation and floor of the food court cracked under the pressure. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2010/12/20/state/n203322S35.DTL&tsp=1 And I was there. I wondered allowed to the people I was with what the room occupancy was, because it was getting quite crowded. Then we all heard a loud crack, and a few minutes later the fire department ordered the mall closed. The report said the evacuation was orderly, but there were many who didn't comply with the evacuation order. The group I was with (five total, including me) was trying to obey, but there were many who were not moving. By the time we got to the car we used to get there, it was time to start, and all of us sang the Hallelujah Chorus as scheduled, unwatched by the authorities. Our car was blocked in the parking lot anyway for about half an hour anyway. For the history of the flash mob, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flash_mob

Crazy. First the fire at the Galleria and now this. I have only been there a few times since it reopened from the fire (the last time was last month), and I thought it was crowded then. That was nothing compared to yesterday's escapade (I just saw it on the news). I have to say, that's a lot of people! It's amazing that the mall didn't suffer any structural damage and is scheduled to open as usual today. What's even more amazing is that the mall knew that this "mob" was going to happen, although maybe not to this extent. Still, it seems they should have taken better precaution, especially with it being the holiday season and all. Well, at least no one was injured. Maybe the next time a big mob of singers plan to sing outside a mall, they'll stick with that plan. Happy holidays!
