I am watching television and saw this incident about a Taxi Driver who are choosing their passenger. I am really irritated to such taxi driver. Why they are choosing or making fix agreement with their passengers? I hate this scenarios. Good thing I seldom take a cab. If not, I will report them to the authority. They dont have to be choosy. Because Passenger will now occupy them if don't have money. Furthermore more, if you will notice you will see this to the side of their window. " Any point of luzon" What's the sense in providing this statement if they are choosing their passenger. Shame on Taxi Driver who are practicing such. You can report abusive taxi drivers via hotlines 0917-2470385 or 0919-2227462. If proven guilty, violators will be asked to pay a fine of P1,500 and two months suspension of their driver’s license.

Yeah and they say so many excuses like its too traffic at this time there but if you pay me 200 bucks or if you give me an additional 100... That just not a good thing for cab driver's to do. It's just an excuse to jack up the price. Its literally highway robbery but no one is reporting these incidents thats why it remains a problem.

That sounds like price gouging which is a totally different thing from choosing who will ride in your cab.

It is a shame that cab drivers act like this. They best be happy that they have a job. Who knows, the person they are passing up may tip better than the one they accepted.

If I get good service I give a good tip nd a cheerful thank you. Poor service gets just the opposite. Companies need to start paying more attention to their employees and how they treat their customers.

hi syoti20 I do agree. Here in the US no cabdriver can just choose who he will take as they are to serve the public and when you phone for a cab he cannot say oh i will not take you.He is running a business for the public so he takes anyone who hales him,I don't know whether we have a hotline for cab drivers here in the US or not. they are usually so expensive I seldom take them.

Hatley, you are mistaken. I drove taxi for a year and yes, I did pick and choose who I gave a ride to. As in any business you will see signs that say, "We reserve the right to deny service to anyone." I cannot tell you how many people out there will hail a cab and get in fully intent on skipping on the fare. There are also people out there who will rob a cabbie. I remember one idiot who hailed me after he skipped owing me $20. I asked him if he had the $20 he owed me. He said no, only the cost of this ride. I let him walk. And I was fully within my rights to do so! I was especially gratified that it was pouring down rain at the time. Let him take the bus!

Sorry to hear that from you Graceekwenx How come he did that to you? Were you seated at the front of the cab? That is the reason why I am not seating at the front or beside the taxi driver whenever I am alone as in I never did that. That is why when I am riding a taxi I am always getting the plate number with the name and contact so that I could send the text to my boyfriend. I just encountered drunken driver who drives recklessly.

I know what you mean and I agree with you. Drivers should deny passengers only if they think they would be in danger, not because it is too far away or it is traffic in that area. In the Philippines the policy is that drivers are not allowed to deny passengers within their boundary. People should take the time to get the details of the driver and report them to the authorities. These often happen during the holidays and busy season especially this Christmas season!

It really is a shame. It is such a simple thing to do if your think about it. But I don't know why it is so hard for people to give respect. Yeah when people are in a rush, it is common for people to take advantage of others. I guess we should still be cautious despite the fact that this is the season to be jolly after all.

How awful and unfortunate that thievery and scammers exist higher during the holiday season let alone at all. I also agree that drivers need to be cautious as to who they transport as you never know the passengers also are on the lurch and cab drivers would also be in harms way during the holidays. Shame we cannot live in a world where people respect one another.

This appears to be problem with anyone working with customer service it is awful that they are selective as anyone taking a cab has to pay right, so who cares who enters it so as long as they pay for the ride.

I certainly can respect that and would not understand a person being so abusive in a cab. I can only imagine all types of people climbing into a cab but find it so unnecessary to be rude to a cab driver. After all the cab driver should not be harassed in anyway as they are the one taking you to your destination. I was referring to cab drivers being selective in terms of not wanting to pick up because of how a passenger looked. I suppose I always look for the good nature in people and somehow forgot that there are some bad ones out there. I also agree you do not have to put up with abuse, ever.

When you are hauling someone in your cab you have every right to be choosy. When I drove taxi if someone got in my cab spouting sexually abusive language, I would ask them to watch their language and if they wouldn't, I would invite them to find a cabby who would put up with their abuse. I don't care how much you pay me, I don't have to put up with abuse!

I agree with hardworkinggurl, that the selection process is the problem. If the reason for not picking up the passenger was because they were abusive or have a sense of danger around them, that would be acceptable. But limiting the destinations of the passengers is another thing, they should drive buses if they want specific destinations only. Or the train for that matter. Moreso when the selection is based on mere appearance, that just makes it another form of discrimination.

In this country council run taxi wait in line, the next person in line takes the next waiting taxi. To hire a private taxi, just ring and they turn up. There's also a rise on taxi drivers getting attacked and robbed though.

I had been experiencing that incident when I arrived from airport. A taxi driver talked to me and want to negotiate my fair. He told me to pay him 500p for my fair but I insist to use the metronome bill of taxi because I know that my house is not too far from the airport. He didn't agreed that is why i am looking for another taxi and thanks God I found the right one. I am also thinking of reporting the taxi but I know also that they do that in order to get a great income. May be some other time I can do that if they really ask for too much.

hey, are those numbers really the right ones? because i really really really hate them all - well not all, but most. Public transportation in fact. I just made my point to a comment at the other mylotter but it's really not a matter of choosing their passengers based on the person himself/herself, but they choose them because of the convenience it brings to them. I heard lots of stories from my friend who charges extra money just to go from this city to this city when in fact you only go with edsa and you are already there. I will save these numbers and will really really report these drivers. Plus, i also bring with me almost everytime my camera so i can take a photo and even record a video for these types of events. It really is not a matter of discipline anymore, imo, but a matter of dignity and really how to do their job properly.

I agree with you. I try not to take a cab as much as I can because I get short-tempered when that happens. I just hate it when the cab driver refuses because traffic is heavy here. Where in the world is there no traffic? If that is, then they should move their business elsewhere. Public transportation is public service and they have a franchise which is not a right but a privilege.

Thanks for sharing the numbers..i do hope this works here in our place too. Because i have a lot of experiences already with bad taxi drivers. Their meters ticks really fast and instead of the normal fare from a mall to my home, sometimes it goes double. It's such a stressful thing because i can't do anything about it. Sometimes some enforcers are not doing their jobs, even if you report these kind of taxi's and drivers they wouldn't be helping you out. Sometimes i even wish i am a close friend of the Mayor or the president so that i can easily report these things to them. Hopefully our government can really get rid of these driver's.

Thanks for the contact details because I've encountered that so many times since I was still a high school to college student. Sometimes it came to the point that the taxi driver was even drunk. But then he just dropped me to a gasoline station because there was a street that he does not want to enter because he told me that he has an enemy. But then I think it was way really better that he just dropped me rather than continuing to drive me at home since he really drives recklessly and afraid that there might be an accident that will happen to me in any case. Aside from that since I am living in Pasay City one of the streets that they don't want to enter is the place that I live. If I am going to tell them the street that we will be going the driver will refused me as the passenger for a reason that the place is too crowded and yet too much traffic. I've encountered that so many times to the extent that I can't find the cab easily. So now I listed down that contact details so that I would report the cab right away.

When i was still working in Manila, i usually encounter taxi drivers of that kind. When they would give me a flate rate, i would leave them and hail another taxi. Before leaving them, i would get their license number and report them. Good thing i am now in the province, where we don't have to take the taxi to bring you to your destination.

haha =D That's what's happening in singapore as well. There are choosy taxi drivers as well who refused to pick up passengers when it's near to midnight because when the clock strikes 0000hours, they get to earn double from passengers due to midnight surcharge.. lol =D Other than that, passengers at certain areas of the country will find it more frustrating to get taxis because most drivers would prefer to enter areas with surcharge, just to earn more money.. haha =D

It is unfair, especially if you have been waiting for a cab and you may be next in line! In Australia I am certain taxi drivers are not allowed to pick and choose their clients. We have taxi stands and everyone lines up in an orderly fashion as we all wait for our turn, unless we’ve pre-booked of course.
