Has anyone else noticed that Skype, the program you can video chat/make calls/chat with others (especially out of the country) online has been down since at least yesterday? I noticed yesterday when I tried signing in, that nothing was happening and for some reason it wouldn't sign me in. Later, I read on Skype's page that they are having some system issues and will be down until further notice. This is driving me crazy. Does anyone know what the problem is?
I've grown so accustomed to talking to one friend who is studying in another country that every night that it's weird to not be able to talk to him. I guess time apart, online or off, is good.. But wow! Skype goes down right before the holidays? I wonder what families are doing who have loved ones overseas or in another country who communicate through Skype.
Does this affect you at all?
Do you have any information as to what's going on, and when it's going to come back??

I feel bad about you that you have not been able to chat through skype.
I too use this and surprisingly yesterday I noticed one thing that it was not getting shined in.
Do not know exactly what is the problem...

I like to use Skype. When I read your this discussion, I checked my Skype immediately and found that it works fine. And then I glanced at the notice from Skype website in my country and it said that this problem had been fixed. Perhaps sometimes there will be a little unstable, but you can sign in again and it shall be OK. Perhaps many people like to say Merry Christmas to each other and therefore the sever can't suffer from this pressure? I hope it can work well all the time.

Maybe they're doing system upgrade or maintenance. It's just ashame they had to do it just right before the holidays. Those with loved ones abroad might switch to Yahoo Messenger if this happens. Skype provides a great service especially to those who needs to communicate remotely but i haven't used it once. I've seen how it goes, you need a fast internet connection, right? Coz it lags if your connection is slow. Well, i'll use it if i need to Skype someone but for now i'll just rely on text messaging and phone calls.

Skype was down yesterday but it's up again a few hours later. The only problem is that the connection is so slow and calls are getting dropped. It just keeps saying that my internet connection is too slow. My internet connection is fine, so is my mom's who I have been talking to, so I figure it must be Skype's fault. I think they are getting too much traffic and their system cannot handle it. It's a bummer really.

Its unknown when it will come back. There is a server problem and the skype engineers are fixing it but it will take time. Visit http://skype.com in there you can read whats the problem exactly and why it happened. Some people are saying the the problem is made by Russian hacker.

We don't chat with our friends overseas that regularly so it hasn't effected us, but in your case I'd be very put out if that were the case. It seems today a great many sites have been down for maintenance so I have to wonder if the holiday traffic has overloaded their systems?

I just saw a news story about this on the local nightly news. It just said that skype is apologizing for the site being down, they are working on the problem and hope to have it back up sometime tomorrow, when they expect to be the busiest of the year.

Thank you to your advise because I just planning to use it today but when you said down so later on may be. Anyway very seldom using skype, I prepare to use ym. I know skype are having good and other features but try to use other... see you around

All my friends were complaining that there skype wasn't working. But surprisingly, mine was working perfectly. I was even talking to one of my friend yesterday. Maybe am lucky at this time... lol.
But in anyway, they will fixed whatever was wrong because this is period where Skype will lose lot of money
