what do you feel is wrong with altering your cat or dog?or do you feel like it has benefits and not cruel?i have read it can help prevent certain types of cancers and prevent spraying in males, and of course it contributes to controlling pet overpopulation if your pet is outdoors sometimes,so give your opinion please.

I personally think that by neutering or spraying our pets is cruelty to animals. They were born to that gender why not let them just be that way?

It is cruel to not neuter or spay them, because there are simply too may unwanted pets in this world. The surgery is done with an anesthetic, so the pain is limited, and it is usually performed at a young age, so it is easier for them to heal. And many animal organizations and vets offer free or reduced spaying or neutering services, so there is really no reason for people to avoid having it done.

What is cruel is allowing a pet to roam free when it has not been spayed or neutered. It's simply going to follow its natural instincts and it will breed... probably multiple times. This results in more and more unwanted, uncared for animals. Shelters and rescues are overflowing with animals that need homes and there are just not enough homes to place them. Every day, animals are euthanized because there isn't enough space or money to keep them. I think spaying or neutering a pet is a gesture of love and responsibility as a pet owner.

I have 8 cats at the moment. My oldest two were fixed before I received an already-pregnant female. The rest were born in my home. I sternly resist the idea of getting any of my other cats fixed. I am not going consent to my beautiful pets being MUTILATED by a human because kittens are "inconvenient". I hate it when people cry about "unwanted" kittens. As long as I am alive, no cat will ever be unwanted or unloved. They are all welcome in my home.

I think it's a good thing to do. It's a fairly simple procedure. It sucks and of course it is painful for the pet, but it's a lot better than having a bunch of homeless animals everywhere. All the cats I have ever owned were originally strays. I don't think that people realize just how big of a problem it is.

It is not wrong at all, in the contrary it would be wrong not to. If you look around outside you see cats dying as they don't have enough food and have lost their mum. Now that is real cruelty. Another good thing is mostly neutered animals become much more relaxed after they're 'helped'.

I do not have cats and or dogs but in all honesty having one, I would neuter mine, as I will not be able to care for more then one and do not feel it would be fair to allow mine to have more when no one can care for them. As for those who are breeders I suppose it is okay not to, since they are in the business of selling and hopefully making sure the pets go to good homes.

My children used to drag kittens home and mom can we keep it? well Mom would give in and kitten would be a cat and then it had kittens and so on and so forth Sometimes you can get rid of them easily and sometimes not. But as an adult after volunteering with a Vet office I realize that there are MANY unwanted pets out there and that pet owners are not responsible to the pets. So I wanted healthy and good cats I had both my cats (male and female) spayed and neutered. I had never kept a male cat, he was a rescue kitten from the Vets office and I took care of him every day til he was well and able to leave. But they told me to have him neutered because he would start spraying. They had to explain all the stuff male cats could do so I did have him and my female done as I wanted to give them the best possible life I could and no kittens either LOL
