Are we heading for a Mini Ice Age ?

Yesterday in one of the TV news channels there was a report about the excessive snowfal that has hit the European nations and USA and Canada.Even in countries where it does not snow very much there has been record breaking snowfall. Scientists and Clikatologists have been studying the numerous changes in the weather patterns in the Arctic.According to them if this goes on the weather patterns will keep on getting worse every year and by the advent of 2035 a Mini Ice Age will come into affect all over the world. This means that winters will become more long and harsh causing intolerable distress to people and resulting in death to many.Water, electrical lines will freeze over, flights to different nations will get badly disrupted and life as such will become a sort of a hell. What do you,my friends, have to say about such a situation if it does arise?

It is said that weather patterns are going to change over the next few years. I hadn't heard 2035 as 'the year' but that does sound about right. It is scarey to think that this could be coming. I think it is smart to prepare and be ready for such things. Even hotter summers too I am hearing. I don't know. I watch all the shows and decumentaries and try to stay up on things. I think it is very important to be preparied.

About all we can do. I won't either since I am going to be 60 next year. I am so curious though and wonder what will go down.

I figured that by that time I will be in my seventies and I probably would not survive because I cannot stand the cold now! I have heard and read about this kind of thing and, scary as it is…It is something way beyond our control so I do not think about it a great deal. It is interesting to learn about the weather changes and the possible consequences, here’s hoping they will not be too harsh!

Hello Veejay, Happy and Prosperous New Year to you. Today’s newspaper is filled with the news like, ‘flights hit hard by dense fog, fog disrupts train schedule’ etc. Yes, the harsh winter hit by North India too and there is a picture in newspaper as a man walks over a lake (in J&K), the temperature is minus 6.2 so the lake became an ice. I agree the winter is showing its worst face every year and it is increasing year by year. The change of climate is going on each and every part of the world. Some places receive unusual rains. We can expect more weather changes in the coming future and we should prepare for the worst.

Thanks Shree and wish you and your family a Very Happy, Peaceful and Prosperous 2011.Though some people debate it,deforestation and global warming are the chief reasons for the increasing bad weather that the world is experiencing every year and it is we, the inhabitants of this planet who are responsible for it.We get what we deserve, isn`t it?

Don't know how the weather here in Texas fits into the overall scheme of things. It has been, as predicted, warmer and dryer than usual this winter.

I have been thinking for years about that possibility, as since the global warming started, the seasons have been in the opposite colder and colder. In my home country mild seasons like autumn and spring dissapeared long ago, and now it's just a 9 months winter and 3 months summer. I think it's not crazy to think about a mini Ice Age coming, as the weather is behaving that way in many countries.

You are abs right. Our scientists have been warning us for several years ever since the Ozone layer over the poles started to disappear that we should get our act together to prevent the global warming. However we did not take it seriously and therefore are suffering for it.Thanks for the response.

I have heard the same thing several years ago from a lecture in one of my subjects in school about this same theory that the ice is melting from Siberia, North or is it South Pole? Given a few years more and the humongous iceberg will melt and add more water into the world's oceans causing massive flooding and cooling off of the environment due to global warming.

Yes, both the Arctic as well as the Antarctic ice is melting at a very fast rate since a long time. Do you know what will happen? The seas and oceans levels will rise significantly and all cities and towns on the coast of every country and continent will get submerged and there will be a huge reduction in the world population and not only that many species of plant and animal life will vanish forever. It is a bad scenario.

This winter in Europe has been miserably cold with very much snowfall. I live in what is meant to be the sunny south west here in England. We are a coastal locality so we don't usually have snow that settles. This December we have had deep snowfall. Maybe we are heading towards a mini ice age. Our summers have been cool and rainy plus the winter has been more harsh than normal. I am looking forward to summer.

I doubt the same too! My little town is seeing the worst winter now. The climate is very cold and the sky is always clouded and threatening to rain at any time. things were not like this just two or three years back at the least. The season would be nice to enjoy but it is not so now. Well, your fear for a mini ice age is reasonable. But man will manage to live it too unless the climate make a sudden change.
