What techniques have you found useful for promoting your writing online? I have links in my signature line on forums I post on and they bring in some hits, but what else can I do that isn't spamming or frowned upon?

Think from your readers' position. Be considerate of the ability of your readers, so that they can understand easily and enjoy reading. Also, have a contact with them. When you have built up a group of readers, they help promote your articles too. The first thing is to ensure your articles quality. The readers will read unless your articles are up to par. Thanks for start such discussion. It helps too.

I mainly use social networking and bookmarking sites. I use Twitter and sometimes Facebook (but be careful with this though - you'll never know who's reading your articles). I also use social bookmarking sites like Digg, StumbleUpon and such. It has brought in some traffic for me. These techniques aren't spamming.

There's a site called Twaitter which is a part of Twitter (or owned by them or something). Anyway, you can schedule tweets any way you like them, one time, every day, every week, every month, for any number of times until forever. If you tweet about an article, schedule the same tweet several times over a period of time. I've started doing this and have seen my pageviews increase. Of course, you have to have a twitter account with a few friends to make it work. Also, if you have a blog, write a post about one of your articles now and then and keep a list of current or special interest ones on the sidebar and change them often.

Hi, I write for several websites. I frequently post the links to the articles that I write on my Facebook page. I hope that helps. Best wishes for success!

If you have a url link for your site where your writing is you could try a site like easyhits4u. where you earn credits and can assign them to your sites and the idea is that this brings people to your site. You earn credits there by surfing sites.

There are ways to hook your account on writing sites up with your Twitter account and Facebook account. Posting every article you write there, would be a great way to start. I also think social bookmarking sites are a great way to get more traffic!
