What is the price of Gas where you are? Did you know it was going up?

I heard on the news the other day that the price of gas might be going up to 5 dollars a gallon soon. It is already 2.90 a gallon here and that is way too much. I know it goes up during the holidays but this is ridiculous we are a poor state and the pay isn't that good here. How do these gas companies expect those that live on fixed incomes to pay higher prices? So how much is your gas prices? Do you live on a fixed income? How will you afford to pay higher prices? Will you be staying home more if the gas prices keeps going up?

Think yourselfs lucky. Here in the UK the average is about $3.93 / US gallon. We price and sell it in £ and in litres of course, so that's a conversion from Pounds and litres to dollars and US gallons. Most of that is tax, and in our case, thats just gone up so the above figure is probably already out of date. We have had to put up with these high prices for many years when you all were enjoying your cheap gas. So welcome to the real world!

Yes, you got that right! The oil companies are basically in a monopoly situation in that they are selling an essential commodity - so essential that the very existance of our society depends on it. So they can pretty much can charge what they want for it and governments can milk it all they can for revenue. People still have to use it regardless.

In fact the price that I quoted above was on the low side. I just did a bit more research and in December the price in London and the South East of England (the most expensive area) was approx. $6.70 / US gallon for unleaded. Thats without the tax rises that came into force this week of course. The same scource said that the UK was the 10th highest in Europe for unleaded and the second highest for diesel. So we are not even the most expensive in Europe in terms of fuel prices. You Americans have been protected for many decades due to being a major oil producer in the past coupled with low fuel taxes and you still enjoy cheap fuel by European standards.

Hi Jwfarrimond. Wow that is high but it was up to almost 4 dollars last summer. I think we need to get oil and gas from our soil and stop depending on foreign soil to get what we all need. I am sorry the gas is so expensive where you live. When they made the model T's they would run on anything why can't they make the vehicles still run on anything? That is my question to the governments of the world. But lets face it we all know why they don't if they did then they wouldn't be making more and more money from the population.

Did anyone think that BP was just going to forget all they lost last summer with that oil spill? Or that those that BP supplies...think they are just going to say "oh well, things happen?". Of course not. They just fixed the problem right at the holidays which is high travel time. They pulled a very smart move in not raising prices last fall...only to hit us with them come this spring after everyone has forgotten all about the oil spill and holiday spending is over and before summer travel gets here...that way by the time summer travel gets here, if they lower it 10 cents everyone will be so happy, they will buy it up and go travel! But then those that can't afford vacations and travel...if they can't afford the gas, they don't buy the gas, and then too..they can't get to work either...so...since they have been talking about a double dip recession recently..they never really said "WHY" they think this....but I'll bet you a New York steak...this is going to be why. People will stop paying bills to pay for gas to get to work so they can earn the money to pay for the gas to get to work! It will be ugly if the powers that be, allow this to happen.

They shouldn't charge us, but they do. And they do cause they can and cause we have to have gas and they know it. No gas means this country shuts down cause the transport trucks like 18 wheelers can't afford the gas to ship product across the country. Last recession in 2008 here in CA we had the problem with gas at $5 a gallon..many trucking companies didn't ship here cause they couldn't afford the gas. People didn't take vacations that summer cause they coudln't afford the gas. People even had to quit jobs cause they drove so far for the job, they couldn't afford gas. Their demand dropped, so they dropped their price but they got it for awhile. Even resturants don't get it. Last recession in 2008/09, people stopped eating out at casual dining resturants. Why? because many didn't have the money to eat there. So what did the resturant do? Raised the prices on the menu so those that did come in paid a higher price...but eventually they had to stop going. Their theory apparently is...raise the prices and get what we can out of those few that come, in stead of lowering them a bit, so more will come and RETURN AGAIN. but with the prices so high, those that could afford it even had to cut back on how often. And why are we charged more here in CA where the oil refineries are? We are close, minimal shipping distance/cost etc. But yet they are higher here than across the country where it costs more to ship. It is higher here cause of the population. More people here buying gas so they can get more for it. Go up the hill 50 miles and it is often up to 50cents cheaper! Go on into LA and it is often 50 higher! Supply and demand...that's about it. That and greed on the oil companies part!

Hi Coffee. I can't see how they keep expecting to get more money out of the poor. It drives me up the wall knowing that it is going to keep going up and up till no one can afford to buy anything. This raising and lowering the prices is just to keep fooling those that will be fooled. I used to live in CA and it seems to be higher there then it is most places. We should be charged more because of oil companies stupid accidents.

The price of gas...guaranteed to make the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. There is a way to drop the price like a rock, but no one will do it because everyone is too lazy. All we have to do is spread it on the internet to boycott one company for a month...That would bring that company to its knees...Then the next month we do another one. Everyone says 'well I have a gas card for that one, I can't boycott that one' Idiots. It would only take a month...The internet covers the whole world...The message could be spread so fast. I have tried so many times...but I am just one person, I need help. The price of gas here ranges from 2.99 to 3.09 for regular.

Hi Adoniah. I agree with you if we would all boycott one gas company a month. The only problem with that and us is there is only one gas station in the town where we live near. But there are several in another town in the oppisite direction. I hate this gas stuff. Wish they made cars like they did the model T's they would run on anything. Wish I had a motor that would run on anything.

Hi Asyria. It is good if you have a gas card but we don't have a credit card and won't have one. Thanks for sharing though.

I have boycotted particular brands in the past. I am not tied to any particular gas company by a gas card. I use my normal credit card and earn points per dollar spent.

The price per gallon is already $3.19 per gallon here.. and i heard it was going to keep going up too.. I already don't travel very much except to home and back because I can't afford it.. I feel bad as just to visit my brother about 20 minutes away my stepfather usually gives me gas money.. I should be able to afford to visit my own brother... but in truth I really can't. some months I just barely get all the bills paid. And then I am waiting for my next pay check to buy the pet food. :-)

Yea, it is ridiculous.. They should have some kind of cap - I don't know why they can get away with inflating the prices so high when they are taking in billions.. And then that raises the price of everything including our groceries because it will now cost more to transport them... Insurance is another thing that is getting ridiculous. my premiums keep going up and then on top of that they jack up the co-pays and they keep raising the price of prescriptions... every month I get my scripts they are higher than the month before.. WTF? lol.. yet there as been a freeze on my pay at work no raise in 2 years.. Cost of living is through the roof and we can't even keep up.

Hi Minx. I know what you mean they raised the price on our scripts too. And it is just getting to where we barley make it from one month to the next we live on a fixed income and there hasn't been a raise on that in over 3 years. The groceries going up and the packages getting smaller. It is going to be where only the rich can afford to live. Then there won't be anyone to serve them .....LOL

Hi Minx. It is hard on all of us. But this is ridiculous I was wondering how the rich oil companies can do this and keep expecting more and more from the poor that are struggling to make it from pay check to pay check. I know what you mean when you say that you can't make it from pay check to pay check and the bills keep getting higher and higher.

When I moved to Puerto Rico 4 months ago it was at $2.56 a gallon. Now it is up to $3.12 a gallon. Living on a fixed income we will most likely travel less and find the places that sell the cheapest gas. I hope now that the holidays are almost over we will see them start going down. We still have 3 Kings Day on Thursday to celebrate.

The night before on January 5th the little kids run around with a little box filling it with hay and cookies. Cookies for the Kings and hay for the camels. Then on the 6th the kids will get gifts supposely from the 3 kings.

Hi Lelin. I can't see how the government can let the prices go up and not raise our income too. It is harder on all of us that don't have that much money to live on in the first place. What is 3 Kings Day? Never heard of it.

in our place the gas and oil prices arent depreciating but its rather increasing bcuz we are dependent upon the international pricing. i think the best solution to that is to utilize our countrys resources. dig under the ground or find other alternatives and sources of energy.

Hi Sweetmary. I think that is the best thing that we use our own resources instead of foreign resources. I think what one responder said about to boycott one oil company would be a good thing too.

the price of gas here also increase a lot... and we can't do anything about it... we live on a fixed income and if the price of everything keep on increasing, it will be hard on us... the only thing we can do is to stay at home more and use less of our car to save some money... i pray that i will get a new job soon as i'm not working at the moment so that i can help my hubby... take care and have a nice day...

The cheapest price for gas around here is $3.12 per gallon and the most expensive is $3.25. The prices have been that way for a long while now. And it is hard dealing with all these prices going up on you especially when your income isn't that much. I've had to cut back on so many things. I don't go out unless it's necessary these days.

Hi Saizo. And here I am complaing about 2.90 a gallon. It has just gone up to that last month it was 2.50 a gallon and we didn't get a pay raise so that was a hard price to deal with. We live on a fixed income and have to take on odd jobs to pay part of the bills. The government didn't give us a pay raise on the SSI this year either we haven't had a pay raise in a couple of years. The poor keep getting poorer and the rich keep getting richer. It is wise not to travel anywhere unless it is necessary.

Hi Sender. I don't see it going down here either. I think it is coming to the day when no one will be able to afford the gas. I can't see why we a great nation can't get gas and oil from our own soil instead of getting it from over seas!

$3.19 a gallon right now. We have no choice but to drive to get to our jobs. We are not visiting people as often to cut back on the gas used to get to those places. I am too far from work to walk in the cold, especially since I have to drop my child off at day care. We are switching, and my husband who drives more miles is going to be driving the more fuel efficient vehicle.

Hi Asyria. It is almost 3 dollars a gallon and it said on the news that it was going up to 5 dollars a gallon soon enough. We do work for ourselves so we can choose not to take certain job if it is too far away. But we need all the extra money so we usually don't turn down any jobs we get. It is good that your husband will be driving the more efficient vehicle makes sense to me too. I think if we all would do what one poster said and boycott a certain gas company and do this for a month then there might be a drop in gas prices. But we only have on gas station in the local town so we would have to travel an extra 27 miles to get gas if we did boycott that station. Wish I could get our local community to boycott gas stations but will never happen here. Good luck and God bless Happy New Year!

Hi Asliah. I was talking about gas that goes into your vehicle. But seen on the news this morning that even the price of heating and cooking fuel is going up again. I can't believe we are letting these gas companies do this. If we all would take a day or two maybe even a week of not buying gas then they might lower the price. But these days we are all having to drive most days. Thanks!

I hope it does not go to $5 Dollars a gallon here it is $3.35 a gallon for the cheap stuff. I could see it going up to $4 a gallon OPEC wants to get more money and i wander if some of the oil producing countries like Saudi Arabia oil fields are lower than what they are reporting and they are trying to squeeze as much money thay can with the supplies they have left.

In Baltic states it has raised also. But at the start of the year it is caused by raising taxes. Now it is about $3.3 per gallon. I I'm using public transport already. It i much more cheaper in city. Of course, when I'm going to some outdoor activities with friends and family, I'm using my vehicle.

Hi Karlis and welcome to my lot. I can't see how the taxes can keep going up too what do they think you can't get blood out of a turnip . The poor can't pay more then what they have. And for those of us that live on a fixed income we aren't getting any raise in pay so there isn't any extra money to pay more. We live outside of a po dunk town that don't have public transportation or we would be using it too. But since we don't have public transportation we have to drive to where ever we have to go. Glad you have public transportation where you live. Happy New Year!
