My brakes are acting strange

I went to a friends house today and on the way back when I went to stop at the stop sign the anti-lock brakes made a noise and then the brake went to the floor and didnt stop. Then after quite a few feet the van finally stopped. I can drive it and the van will stop but the brake pedal pushes to the floor before it stops and it doesnt stop as fast as it should. Then it takes longer for the brake to go back to the unpressed position. I think either the Anti-lock brake system is messed up or the brakes are getting worn out and need to be replaced. I have a tendency to stomp on the brakes all the time so I wouldnt be surprised with either one being the issue.

Not sure what's wrong with your brakes, but you should get it checked as soon as possible, if you haven't already. My 99 Dodge Caravan also has brake problems yearly, and it always so expensive to have it fixed. For a couple of years I've had it fixed at about the same time. Jan to Feb is when I start having problems with it, so I'm crossing my fingers that I get to March at least this year.

My friends husband came over to look at my van for me. He checked to see if it was out of brake fluid. It has brake fluid in it. I think its just the abs is not working properly. If thats the problem then I will just deal with it so I dont have to get it fixed and pay a lot of money when the regular brakes will still work. It could be more then that the problem so I am having it checked out tomorrow and getting an oil change since it was supposed to be done in August and I didnt do it then. The dipstick was so gunked up and then would not go back in my friends husband thinks its rusted all up down in there :(
