I have not been able to sleep for 3 to 4 days because of a pain in my neck and shoulder and did not have any money to go see my doctor because I was on a 2 week non paid vacation so Monday morning I took myself to the emergency room, I signed in and they put me in a small cold room they said someone will be here shortly so I waited and waited and I looked at the clock and it was 3 hours before any one came to see me, and it was not a doctor just some man from the hospital that asked all kinds of questions like what # to call for emergency, my work # and so on, then he apologized and said the e.r. was very busy and they were short on nurses, I just told him that was okay and I understood but in my head I was thinking I have never ever waited that long!! And I could hear them through the doors talking about nothing and some were nurses doing nothing at all? Has this ever happened to you?How long have you had to wait before you walked out? But I did not walk out I stayed.

I have never had luck in emergency rooms, everytime I have gone it has been a minimum of 4 to 5 hours. Everytime I go with my luck the emergency room is seems empty, but inside the ER all the beds are full. The last time I went to ER I got there are 7PM and I didn't get out til 5AM right on time to go back to work. The only time I have had luck is when I take my kids. Since they are small they normally don't leave them in the waiting room to long in order to avoid exposing them to other germs or sicknesses. But lately I just try to avoid the ER unless it is really an emergency and it can't wait until the next day to see my primary doctor.

I have had to sit in an emergency room for several hours to get a doctor as well. I know it is frustrating, but sometimes they take the true emergencies instead of doing a walk in basis. I hope that they told you something about your neck when you did finally see a doctor.

The two times that I have been been in A&E, I have been seen to quite quickly. The first time, I had been spiked, throwing up and passing out so I was a semi-emergency case. The second time, I had been in a car accident and they basically just took my blood pressure and measured my pulse a few times. The amount of time you had to wait is unacceptable, I would file a complaint.

That`s odd. In case like this I will transfer to a different hospital because what there doing is very irresponsible. Its an emergency place & the one who will take care of you should be a nurse or a doctor. Good thing you were okay.

Sorry to hear about the pain in you neck and I hope it feels a bit better after the visit to the ER. As for hospitals in particular the ER areas, oh gosh they do tend to waste a great deal of time. I once had a really bad sinus viral infection with a temperature of 102 for six days. I finally went to the ER and I lay in a bed for 4 hours before anyone came to find out what was wrong. The whole time I wanted to walk out also as I wanted to be home in my own bed. I awaited anyways, and received the care but not until the 5th hour. Just this past November I was at the airport and I was there 3 hours early, so I sat in the terminal awaiting my flight. As I approached there I made sure I was in the right area by asking. So the whole time the attendants were chit chatting about personal trips and silly nothings. So finally I noticed it was 15 minutes to boarding so I wondered when they would not call boarding. So I walked up to the attendant and she oh that was changed to another gate. I said you are kidding me and when were we as passengers going to be told. So it was then that she picked up the speaker to announce. Saying we had to hurry as the plan was already boarded. My moral of the story is that way too many employees are so wrapped up in silly nonsense to think about the people they are suppose to be watching over for.

That's why I'd rather of gone to urgent care or just toughed it out til you could see your own Dr. That's how ER's are they take people by what's more life threatening than not. So if you come in via ambulance you get priority over someone who walked in. We waited several hours when my Mother was in a diabetic coma (your awake for this one) and deal with someone who's confused and hungry and thirsty for hours and can't understand why you are @ a hospital and she couldn't have what she wanted. Sadly, it's hard to say what was going on with the nurses. Seems like nurses spend too much time doing paperwork than acutal nursing sometimes. I know of several hospitals here since the market took a dump in '08 that have laid off staff including nurses and more than one round of lay offs & pay cuts. As people can't afford to get sick or get treated or have non-life threatening treatments/surgeries/procedures done these days.

My sister had to wait 6 hours at the ER, and a person I knew also had to wait for 6 hours. When she finally saw the doc, they told her she didn't have to come because it wasn't an emergency and she still had to pay at least a grand! If you're not 'obviously' dying, they make you wait! One time in an emergency, instead of going to the ER, I went to the Urgent Care... they still made me wait 2 hours, but I figured it's better than 6! Are you ok? I hope everything went ok?
