Just 5 days ago I posted a discussion regarding this issue http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/2464245.aspx However it seems that The White House is making a quick about face. White House Strikes Death Panels Conservatives opposed to medical death panels have something to celebrate. The White House is making an about-face on the issue, striking references to end-of-life planning as part of annual physical exams in a Medicare regulation that took effect Jan. 1, administration officials tell The New York Times. The action represents a quick reversal after the backdoor insertion of the death panel idea sparked vociferous opposition from Republicans. “While administration officials cited procedural reasons for changing the rule, it was clear that political concerns were also a factor,” The Times states. “The renewed debate over advance care planning threatened to become a distraction to administration officials who were gearing up to defend the health law against attack by the new Republican majority in the House.” http://www.newsmax.com/Newsfront/White-House-Strikes-Death/2011/01/05/id/381927 I do realize that the link is from Newsmax which always gets a response from certain Obama supporters that Newsmax is not a news source but as this article is endorsed by a similar article in the New York Times I dare to hope that this change of heart is true. What is you opinion? Is this just a political move to appease the many people who were upset or will Obama just find another underhand way (backdoor) to achieve to same ends?

I dont understand why he is like a dog with a bone on this issue. End of life planning is already in place. Why do they need to offer incentives to doctors to do this? It is already their job.

As I commented on Response # 1 it seems to be a smoke screen for Obamacare to save money by denying life prolonging care for Seniors and Disabled on Medicare. More than likely to be used for other nefarious projects!! We already know that Obama is an expert on smoke screens which he has successfully used to cover his background (schooling, place of birth, etc.)

Actually there is already a provision in the health care bill that covers end of life planning. It mirrors the provisions that the VA has. It is not forceful, it is just an option. I do think that once the health care bill is funded...if it is funded, that this non forceful provision will be fitted with more teeth without any actual changes made in the bill. This is why the the Big"0" is able to do an about face without losing face.

Doctors have already done end of life planning for years, so Adoniah, you have to ask yourself, what is different about the provisions in Obamacare than what has been done. Also remember that Living Wills and DNRs are only part of what they are talking about.

ParaTed2k As I am very much aware that end of life planning has always been available. I do ask myself what is different about the provisions in Obamacare. I am pretty sure it is some way for Obamacare to save money on the costs to prolong life for Seniors and the Disabled. Most likely Obamacare will achieve the same ends but in such a way that it is not obvious to the general public.
