Getting rewarded by reporting abusive members

What do you think about getting rewarded by reporting abusive mylot members? Would mylot be better? The outcome will be: *MyLot will have so many reports coming. *Abusive members will be deducted on their earnings and a possibility to get banned. *False reports will also go up, because some members wants the reward so bad! *We will have less annoying discussions. *We will have less discussions. Can you think of any other cons and pros? Do you think it is worth it? Why and why not?

Is this a new regulation here at mylot where a user can actually report another user to be abusive and get rewarded? I don't think that's a good thing. Some people can take advantage of this situation and it might just get messy in the long run, Furthermore, I pity those users who will be falsely reported as abusive. If the number of false reports will go up, then the number of complaints would also increase and I think this will make the lives of the administrators here at mylot a living hell.

In the Guidelines we are already told: "Help us out and report trolls, flame wars, and troublemakers by sending an abuse report to myLot. Help out when you can. The myLot staff tries to monitor the site constantly, but we also need your eyes and ears to catch problems when they arise and report abusive behavior" http://www.mylot.com/o/guidelines.aspx and many Lotters already do so, with no reward. This has served to help keep myLot the site that it is and still unique and paying for so many years!

Indeed it was and one that I hope will never become more than that ever!

hi mysdianit! I thought they already implemented a reward rule with regards to reporting abusive users. I'm quite familiar though that we are supposed to report abusive users but with no reward. Now I know that the discussion was just a hypothetical one.

I am not in favour of being rewarded for reporting. We are asked to help out and report anything which goes against the Terms and this should be obvious that it is for the benfit of one and all if we do so. The earnings which come from deleted posts are then redistributed among active users, as stated in the FAQs, and this should be reward enough. Some sites would pocket them for themselves. I believe that there are already many Lotters who report, regardless of whether all of the reports are actually violations or not. Admin then decides. Abusive members already lose both earnings and their accounts if the abuse continues. False reports, I presume, already appear. You really think that there would be less annoying discussions? This should be a fun site with the accent on quality discussions. If there was a reward for 'catching the culprits' then there would be a lot of users here for that purpose and I feel that it would be negative. Now there are those who report and advise. That would not be the case if there was a reward because if users were told what they were doing wrong then there would be less posts to report and earn the rewards. No I do not see this being beneficial for anyone, least of all for the site itself as it would attract users for negative reasons instead of positive ones.

Thank you I am so very aware that 'reporting abuse and abusers' is seen so differnetly depending on which part of the world a user is from and their culture. To me picking up a piece of rubbish on the street makes the whole place look tidier and is beneficial to everyone in the same way that reporting is here. Of course an ideal situation would be where everyone placed their garbage in the trash can rather than on the street - but that is not going to happen

I did not think it was a good idea that we are rewarded for reporting abusive Mylot members. However I think that Mylot should have thread moderators (sorry if this has been mentioned already but I am not sure whether Mylot got them) who can delete abusive threads / posts and send these offenders three warnings before get booted out. It's just my opinion though.

We already have a report button. I have used it a few times when the poster crossed the line from being a stupid idiot to being a racist jerk.

Yep I think that might be just a bit of a mess. There are people who could potentially abuse the reporting system as it is, and I'd imagine that would be a mess for administration to sort out the real reports from the false ones. I think that it might encourage members to be more proactive but then it would encourage the trolls to come out and play. Really the system is good as it is right now and I see no need to fix it at this present moment.

Getting rewarded by reporting abusive members does more harm than good to the site. It may fuel intrigues, bickering and finger pointing among myLot's members all for the purpose of getting the prize that comes after it. The reward might be so tempting and irresistible that would lead some individuals make unfounded or unfair accusations. The rules and regulations are set in place outlining the things to do and not do. If anyone will report an abusive member without the reward, there is the presumption that he or she is acting in good faith and devoid of some malicious intent. Actually, it is already a reward in itself as it helps the entire organization maintain its credibility and integrity through its members who willfully assume the enviable task of being "keepers" to our brothers and sisters in the site. My piece of advice is, don't pursue the reinforcement approach through reward. Sure, the intention is good and it might do some positive results, however, this scheme invites the possibility of abuse or may be blown out of proportion. I personally thank and commend to members who take courage in monitoring a number of erring lotters. May your kind thrive a hundredfold and you might encourage others to follow suit.

eheh it can be an idea but i think that in some cases too many people accuse other emmbers to gain the reward so it would rsult not really ok in my opinion and so a site can transform in a kind of police department where almost all try to control others...

In my opinion, mylot has already put in place all the safety measures to ensure that this site thrives and it is until this very day. There had been people who got banned, discussion that were against the TOS were deleted, members have the capability to report if they think that there's abuse made and the capability to rate others according to how a discussion was started. I'm already happy with this site as it is. Being able to report the abusive users should be sufficient because as others would have it, that word abuse is relative, what's abuse to some may not be abuse to others that's why mylot will have the final say. Besides, I don't want to come to a point that we have to watch our back every so often because if a reward will be given to those who report abuse then a lot will feel that they've just been stabbed. This site should be a place to have fun and not a place where people look for mistakes so they can earn from it.

There are malicious people who will enjoy this condition very much. And a lot more works for myLot to sort the reports, which ones are genuine and which ones are false. Moreover, myLot will not be very popular when this happens.

I am disagreeing to the part wherein mylot members will get banned. Mylot is a friendly site. Mylot is made to be fun.
