Hubby's witty friend

India
January 25, 2011 10:44am CST
This morning hubby's class mate came to see him. His son is also doing job here, He is from our city in Orissa. He is 'Sardar' from Punjab, sports a turban as usual. Sardarjis are brave people , little witty. As soon as he entered home, he called my daughter in law, said,'why you dry the clothes outside'; any body can guess how many male, female members are here' You dry them in the room. She said i have to dry outside, to kill the smell and sunlight removes the stains too. But Sardarji kept ranting, at last my daughter in law removed the clothes. So where you hang the cloth for drying after you wash or spin in a washing machine? You wash manually? How to handle witty persons like hubby's friend?kalyani

hello kal, i always dry it in the clothesline but at the back outside of the house. i hang it where it is airy. when i like to have it see the sunlight (like white clothes) i bring it upstairs where there is a room there that is perfectly kissed by the sun always. when it is rainy outside, i hang it inside the room and i open the electric fan. that way the clothes will dry well and there are no smell to the laundry except that sweet smell of the fabric. have a nice day. ann

Different people think differently and they think they are right so no comments as to wheather he was right or wrong but I use balconey to dry cloths with the help of a stand. I think the logic that was given to SardarJi was perfect so he should have understood that . Again if someone can count the number of persons in the house just looking at the cloths outside house, what is the harm? Thank You for sharing.

Good question .. I accept sardarji's words. Its good to use inner room to dry your clothes. What he mentioned in his point is good since it may lead to think some rubbish things about you and your daughter-in-law. You must dry your Inner garments inside only its not good to expose it outside your home.I think you can understand what i am trying to say..

greetings! was that really witty? it doesn't sound witty to me :( he sounded imposing. for me, he had no right to meddle into other people's affairs. if i was there, i would have just laughed at his "suggestions" and not give him any direct answer.

Hanging clothes outside is normal. I think what your hubby's friend is referring to are the undergarments? I'm not really sure, but I would think that is not quite good to display your undergarment outside the house. Or in the other hand I'm the only one who is thinking of that? Lol.

Normally undergarments are hang on a rope in bathroom, if at all outside a saree or blouse covers them.. kalyani

I am not sure if I would call that witty, or rude and nosey. We have a clothes dryer, but I like to dry a lot of things without the dryer. I like to put my clothes outside, but it is in the back yard and passers by would not see it. I also will put clothing on hangers on the back porch. If the weather is bad I can put clothing on hangers on poles inside. I think sunlight is good, but it also will fade the colors.

He is neither rude, nor nosey, some persons just want to impose things that they do at home Yean sunlight gades the color, so drying in shade, but airy place is good kalyani

Well it's winter here and unless I want my items rock hard and frozen I will have to dry them inside. I either hang the items around the house to dry or I use the dryer it depends on the item. Though your daughter-in-law is right though the sun does take out stains sometimes and various smells. I guess make him happy for the minute and when he is not visiting do your wash as usual. I don't see why it's any of his concern as long as you don't live in an area where you'd have to worry about someone stealing your wash.

Hi Kalyni2011 The clothes dried in the outside have a fresh aroma. But i too tend to dry them in home. We live on second floor - i kind of don't feel good when all our clothes are hanged for all the building to see. So it's always like this - if i am the one washing cloches - they are dried in home, if it's my mum - they are dried outside:D Sometimes she sneak them outside when i am not looking haha

Hi Kalyni! In the summer I do hang some of my clothes outside on a clothesline. I hang our bathing suits out there too. I like the way it makes my clothes and sheets smell fresh. Plus it save on my electricity bill. The clothesline is located in my backyard..so you can't see it from the road..so it would be close neighbors or visitors that would see them. I guess it would depend on what I had hanging out there as to how I would react. I hang my "woman stuff" up in my bathroom...lol.

Your hubby's classmate is overcautious.I think it has something to do with his profession, because you has said he is a sardar. Here it is a common sense to dry the clothes under sunlight for the sun's ultraviolet rays can kill the bacteria.

Haha! Thats a strange question! I wonder why the Sardarji was pondering behind the clothes which were left to dry! Its just a part of our daily life to dry clothes outside! Well, even in our house we dry it outside only. As you said, it helps to kill the smell and the left over germs in the clothes. I prefer washing the clothes manually and thats basically because, hand washed clothes lose their texture very soon as compared to that of the manually washed clothes. More over, washing clothes manually does help as a healthy exercise to our hands! Well, to handle the witty persons like the Sardarji uncle you mentioned, I think its better to let it go or remain silent, or just do the thing that the person expects you to do! It will avoid the irritation that we will have to face if they keep pondering about the same thing again and again which is not as much as an importance to speak so much about! :) Looks like you had hard time with the clothes left to dry! Cheers!
