Hi All, Liverpool have rejected a massive 35 million pound bid for Fernando Torres from Chelsea. There might be similar attempts in future by other clubs as well in future for the Spain international. The point is how longer will Liverpool manage to hold on to their most prized asset? They are struggling in the league, there is no champions league for them. In such situation, how longer will Torres remain loyal to the reds? His career has taken a downward curve and changing clubs could be an option to revive it.

I am not surprised that Liverpool rejected the bid. I am pretty sure that it will take much more than 35 million pound for Liverpool to dump Torres to a premiership rival. One thing that could help is if they can get their hands on Suarez. If they do get him then they might want to cash in on Torres, especially as he feels a bit disgruntled at the club. But realistically, I do not think that would happen in this transfer window. Cheers! Ram

Latest news is that Chelsea is lining up a 60 million pounds offer for Torres. That is really huge and could test Liverpool's resolve to retain him. Now that Suarez is in, this offer might just tempt Liverpool. Cheers! Ram

Well, you are right. Torres is much more valued than 35 million pounds. He might leave in the summer though not in this transfer window.

Well its obvious that Chealsea is trying to rejuvenate the squad as some players like Drogba, Terry and Lampard are reaching their retiring age. Torres would certainly add much to the squad but I believe is an unrealistic target for Chealsea. I believe there are cheaper options that might help Chealsea out such as Fernando Lloronte, Luis Suarez or Giuseppe Rossi.

Suarez is possibly going to Liverpool. Torres might return to Spain.

I believe that one of the reasons behind the rejection is to prevent Torres from being in the Premier League other than in Liverpool...The mentality out there is that, you cannot, or rather should not sell your player, or rather valuable player to your rivals...You have the option to sell to other clubs from other leagues, or just keep them intact...But, I am also in the opinion that Torres himself might be considering a move, provided that Liverpool cannot offer big stages like Champions League for him... livecenter

He indeed is considering a move away and handed a transfer request, but Liverpool declined even that.
