Benfica center back David Luiz has joined Chelsea. The deal was once almost complete and then almost fell through. But now the deal is final. David Luiz joins Chelsea for 25 million euros. The center back is happy to go to Chelsea. Luiz was named the Portuguese Player of the Year in 2010 and is a great addition. David Luiz will compete with John Terry and Alex for the starting central defender spot in Chelsea. David Luiz is a great player with physicality and is a great defender. He is a good header of the ball and even scores some goals. What are your thoughts on this transfer?

So much money spent on a defender means one thing: he is very good and he is being brought to be a starting lineup. I have never seen him playing, but the values of this transfer say everything we need to know, that he is a huge talent. Will see how he will adapt to the English style, which is very different from the Portuguese one.

As I said, if a team gives so much money on a defender, he has to be very good. Usually defenders are cheaper than other players, so I believe you that he is a huge talent. As for his adaption to England, we will have to wait and see.

I have not seen this player play just yet. But off late good defenders like Carvalho and Pereirra have come out of Portugal. Let's see if he is also in the same class. I think it is more like Chelsea are already planning ahead now that Terry and Alex are tending to get a bit slow. Cheers! Ram

Luiz sure is a good addition for Chelsea. No matter how good Terry is, one knows that he cant goes on forever and as this season proves, he is more injury prone than usual. What is surprising is that we could be seeing the future of Brazil, Alex and Luiz.

These days players are so over priced. Well, David Luiz is a possible replacement for Terry. Terry is not only old but has given inconsistent performances in the last few games like the recent FA cup clash where his poor marking cost them a goal. Also, Chelsea do not have proper back up for that spot. Luiz is a good player and has a huge physical presence in defence. Chelsea got Torres and now Luiz. They are desperate to get back in title race.

He is a great player for Chelsea and was a great player for Benfica. If he starts on Sunday and plays no-nonsense defense and continues to play that way expect a lot from him. Chelsea will have two great center backs and it will be hard for teams to score against us.
