Government OVER regulation, are they treating us like babies?

This is going to be a bit long, and if you are one of the MyLotters who wants to only read a one or two line discussion, this isn't for you. Look somewhere else for the "quick" money reads that you don't have to take the time to read or the ones that challenge you to THINK for a change. As all of my MyLot friends have noticed I haven't been on the Lot for a long time. When I do come on it's to answer maybe one post. There is a big reason why, and I will preface it all with the statement that I am not looking for sympathy (It's in the dictionary between $hit and $yphillis). My pain levels have suddenly gone from a 5 to a 30 on the doctor's ten point scale of pain. I woke up the night before last SCREAMING from the pain. I was able to handle the pain in my left leg from the knee replacement, but both of my shoulders and my right leg are involved now. Even brushing my hair is a chore that I don't look forward to. It isn't just my pain I am starting this discussion about...it's everyone elses pain along with my pain. In the patients bill of rights that you can get from any hospital, it states that we,as paitents, have the right to live with our pain under control. Don't believe that bull $hit. The government has stepped in and stripped us of our rights for pain regulation. Each month we are alloted a prescribed amount of pain relievers to take care of our pain. We are informed that we can take ONE friggin pill every six hours. That gives us 4 pills a day times the number of days in a month. Don't believe that if it is a short month you have extra pills to get you through...you don't. So in a 30 day month you get exactally 120 pain killers. If you have more pain than what the pills are prescribed for you're out of luck. If you might reach the 4th hour after taking a pain pill you might think that you can go ahead and take another, but the regulations are there where if you take another pill, at the end of the month you'll be short. This is garbage!!! We are being regulated to death. I am beginning to believe that our law makers are looking at their constituants as idiots!!! Read your prescription bottles. Are you taking pills? My bottles always state "Take one pill by mouth". How the hell am I going to take it? Shove it up my fanny? When did we start becoming idiots? Yes, I have read about the people who cant figure out how to do things, they mix up the ambisol with the anusol...they will insert their medications up their...nose and other openings, they have an overpowering urge to use the blow dryer in the shower. But what about the rest of the "thinking" population? What do we do to control our pain and our lives? How many of you are chronic pain suffers? Do you get through the month on your prescriptions? I know that tylenol and other tylenol type products don't cut the pain...I had a friend buy me a bit of pot, which since I can't smoke it I use it in my tea, and it doesn't really help the pain. After being so frantic about the overabundance of pain, I realized that all of us chronic pain are being held hostage by the government. We are being penalized because of people who don't watch over their medications and their kids, who want to get high because their lives are boring and they don't have the gumption to go out and find their own "high" from living a drug free life. I remember teaching my daughter NOT to get into things that don't belong to her. I taught her to respect people's privacy and that getting high wasn't the answer to boredom or problems. Having children is a teaching experience for each of us. With that said, changes really need to be made to the system. I'm sitting here typing, terrified to move because of the horrible pain. I know there are millions of other chronic pain suffers out there that are going through the same thing. Isn't it about time we banded together as one HUGE voice to let the lawmakers and doctors know that we aren't going to live in pain and it's about time that they did something about the laws to account for the chronic pain sufferers? We treat our companion animals better than we get treated. If our furry friends are in excruciating pain, we rush them to the vet and get treatment for them. We go to the doctor for the same reason and we get a minimal amount of pain medications and are told to come back in a month...there truely is something totally wrong here!~!

Ok Loverbear, no sympathy, because I crunched my rice cake when I read where it is located in the dictionary.. But I will tell you that I have notice that you have not been here and I miss you terribly.. I don't suffer from chronic pain, but my husband does and I hear the same story from him. He even the other day kept repeating over and over again how he doesn't want back surgery, yet he feels this might be his last resort because of the daily pain he endures. So, if a group ever comes together, let me know, he may want to join in.

Thank you loverbear, I'll tell him..Yes, I do believe the doctor did mention arthritis once, but he also has damage from on the job injuries and of course workmans comp is not help at all.. They keep denying that he got hurt on the job or that his back is miraculously healed.

Loverbear I so feel your pain. I have several painful spots the worse being my tumore in my spine. I take the pain medications but it really doesn't touch it. I also get nerve blocks but in like 2 weeks they are worn off too. This is a horrible way to live. I am so sorry that you are in so much pain. Take care and hoping you can have some relief.

Well this is getting rediculous if you ask me for sure. I have chronic pain due to Arthritis and other issues due to being Diabetic, and having chronic wounds that only want to heal to a certain point, on top of getting Bad migraines from time to time, etc. so I can seriously relate. How do they really expect us to live with the pain if we are not given enough medications to help deal with things when they are at their worst? They are always worried we will get addicted to them, or that the medications will effect our kidneys, etc. I like the Doctor I see now but the being afraid to give anything to help when you hurt the worst more than like a month supply at a time at most drives me Crazy for sure.

Huge numbers of my friends online are suffering from chronic pain from arthritis, fibromyalgia, MS, you just name it. Some of them have doctors that will prescribe enough pain meds to pretty well take care of the pain, and others do not. In some cases it is not the government regulating your pain, it is the doctor who says he is afraid you will become addicted, because they have no sense of the pain you are in. That one pill by mouth is not just instructions for you, but for any ninny who might try to give it to you.I do not have the pain you have, and I know it. Some things help me when I hurt, but others do not. I keep hearing that there is a movement afoot to provide adequate pain control, but judging by what you and others say, it is not helping very much at all.

Loverbear, I know what you mean about pills. When I got out of the hospital last week I was given a prescription for pain pills. It was for 90 pills and when I asked the pharmacy how long that would last, I was told if I took the maximum dose, it would last a week. My pain was never that bad so I only took a few of the pills. I can't picture being in chronic pain like what you describe. The surgical pain that I have been through is bad enough, but it is nothing that I can't live with. If necessary, I could eliminate the medications altogether. I think that it is important for doctors to realize that people can live a better life if they aren't in constant pain. I just hope that pain management becomes a more emphasized part of medical training in the future. It might make life better for some people. Thanks for sharing this!
