Has Kenny Dalglish changed Liverpool fortunes?

When Kenny Dalglish took over Liverpool, they were struggling to beat the mid table teams. Over the past few weeks, he has started to work his magic on the team. Today against Chelsea the team stepped forward with the confidence that they can win the match against the best of teams. And that is exactly what they did by beating Chelsea 1-0 thanks to a Raul Meireless goal. Now Liverpool has moved into the 6th spot in the table ready to challenge for that all important 4th spot. Do you think Kenny has changed Liverpool fortunes? Cheers! Ram

I don't think he's changed there fortunes at all they're still doing quite average for there standard but he has the advantage of other teams slipping up recently and dropping down the league as under Roy Hodgson they were never that far off 6th with only a small amount of points spitting the league up. So there's no real change in fortune they've just carried on with an average return of points although today was a good victory.

But do you think under Roy they could have taken on Chelsea the way they took them on today. Today they were on the attack and not just defending against top opponents which I felt they setup to do under Roy. Cheers! Ram

Sure, but currently Liverpool are on a 5 game winning streak. To top it he eased out the situation surrounding Torres, whose mind was definitely out of Liverpool for some time now. I think only a confident manager could have taken that step. Cheers! Ram

I'm sure it's only a four game winning streak but my point remains the same don't jump on the bandwagon just yet in football everyone tends to see everything completely different after very few games you just have to recall Chelsea when they were top of the league it shows just how easy it is for people to get carried away once a team shows any good form. Daglish hasn't really eased the situation with Torres though has he? He's accepted that he's left if that's what you mean.

I definately think that Kenny has changed Liverpool's fortunes. They have done very good the last 5 matches witt 4 victories and 1 draw. They have now moved to 6th position, 6 points after Tottenham, which has one more match to play. The team are more confident now, and the believe that they can win every match, and they prooved that today. I don't think Liverpool can reach the 4th position, but to be one of the english teams in next season's Euro Cup is possible.

I think that they could sneak into the 4th place. But of course it is not in their hands and they would need Tottenham and Chelsea to slip up big time. But given the state they were in last month, I think they will take the Europa League spot as well. Cheers! Ram

They have to win many matches the next month, if they should have a chance for the 4th. But if they don't reach the EURO CUP spots, then it will be an accident.

I think that indeed Kenny Dalglish has changed the liverpool fortunes. I think that he knows where best to put the players and give them instructions he also has a really good assistant manager which helps. I think that with the new manager liverpool can still challenge to be in Europe next season and at the start of the year this did not seem possible at all.

Exactly my thoughts. More than anything just the fact that he has been there and been successful, he has more confidence taking tough decisions. I do not think any other manager would have had the guts to sell of Torres, but Dalglish sensed that the Spaniards mind was no longer in the job and he was becoming a liability rather than an asset and sold him off. Cheers! Ram

Yeah thats true and I think today with Torres playing against Liverpool and getting only one shot off showed that he is in poor form and that Liverpool were right for him to be sold. The fact Liverpool can win without him shows that this season he has not been a major part of their team.

And the bigger thing is that though Chelsea bought him, they seem to have bought problems along with him. Now they need to think of a formation where they can fit him in. Today's formation with three up forward certainly did not work. I think the underlying question is that whether Torres is an Ancellotti buy or a Abrahamovic buy. Remember the Shevchenko situation? It seems like that, but Liverpool can still make wrong steps and loose to weaker teams. Dalglish is a legend for Liverpool and fans love him, but if he is really "magical" we will have to see. Maybe he can inspire the players like no other Liverpool coach could in the last few years and this makes him special. The end result can be said only at the end of the season, because lots of things can change till then.

I agree that his real assessment could only happen after the season finishes. Cheers! Ram

Is like in athletics or swimming. Important is where you are at the end of the race, not at the beginning or middle. A pertinent conclusion can be made only when a season is finished.

It is still too early to say that but King Kenny looks to have got the players under his control and they are starting to play well as a team. Raul Merieles has scored all goals under Dalglish. So thats a good sign for Liverpool. But they still have a long way to go and to achieve that fourth spot, they have to win all the remaining games.

Yes, Raul Meireless seems to be enjoying playing up just off the strikers. His strike against Chelsea was also very good. Cheers! Ram

And now Liverpool also have Suarez who is a great team player and can play anywhere upfront.

I think the main reason why Kenny Dalglish is looking like he is improving the team is that everyone that is involved with the club, have gained alot of confidence that a legend like him has took over club and he is going to take the club further than Rafa Benitez and Roy Hodgson could. I think the main factor is that everyone is starting to believe in their club again and looking for a fresh start with Kenny Dalglish.

I agree with cash's assessment. But at this highest level most often things are about confidence and a manager who can get that spirit going will always have his club shooting for top honors. @Nico, Yes, Rafa made a good start with Liverpool. His problem was the last two years when he started whinging too much for everyone's liking. Also, for his management style it was always the Cup games that were better for him. I believe that his rotation policy cost Liverpool shots at two Premier League titles. Cheers! Ram

We must now forget that Rafael Benitez won the Champions League in 2005 with a great comeback in second half, and I don't think that Liverpool is good enough to win Champions league the next 5 years. But i think in 2 years, they will be good enough to play in the best european cup again.

I've been impressed with what Kenny has done. I thought he was just a populist signing to get the fans behind the new owners. I thought Kennt had been out of the game too long, he hasn't won a title since 95, a long time ago. He wasn't that impressive at Newcastle.I thought his time had been, But to be fair to him he seems to have got a bit of pride back into the Liverpool players and suddenly 4th place is a possibility. Well Done Kenny

Yes, I think the fact that he has not been in the game for a long time was the first reason why Roy was preferred over him when they went for a new manager in the summer. Cheers! Ram

Yes indeed. he change the spirit in the team and the style of the play. The only defeat he suffer is against ManU in the FA cup, correct me if I'm wrong. When he take over Liverpool are fighting for their survival at the bottom half of the table. Now they are fight for Champion league spot. They only 6 points shy of the 4th place. A good improvement for a struglling team. I reckon in 5 games Liverpool are the main contender for the 4th spot. Thay will fight will Chelsea, Spurs and Sunderland, yes Sunderland, for the 4th spot. I hope it will be either Liverpool or Sunderland get it.

It is funny that you mention Sunderland in that list. But that is how topsy turvy this season has been. The likes of Villa and Everton who usually are in the mix are fighting to avoid the relegation battle currently. Cheers! Ram
