Should you own a wild animal?

I was watching this show were people owned a wild animal [lion, bear} and after raising the animal from a pup and having it for years it attacked his owner. Now this could happen with a dog or cat but the injuries from a bear or lion are far worse I think. You think people should be allowed to own wild animals in there home? I wouldn't want to live next door to someone who owns a tiger

I'd love to own a raven or a zebra. Both are animals I admire, so it would be interesting to own them as pets. I know it's impossible to have a zebra at home, but I'm just answering to your question. About the raven, I don't want to have it at home, but I'd like to own one in any part of the world, so that I can visit him. That would be a good way to own a raven.

What is so attractive about a raven, it's just a bird isn't it? Why can't you have one at home if you have a big enough cage for it?

I don't know why, but I like ravens. It's like I feel identified with that birds. And answering to your question, I don't like to have a captive raven, but I'd like to see the raven fly and live free, but to feel that is my own raven, that I can give him a name, and have a better relationship.

i love to own a bear a tiger or a lion. but i think it is not allowed in my place. most of them are in the zoo. i love wild animals even though they are dangerous to strangers. about owning a wild animal, i think they need to ask permissions to the government and i think there are many requirements for you to own a wild animal. i think it depends that people should own a wild animal.

This is a very interesting topic that you come up with. It would really be scary to live by someone that owned a wild animal. It would be scary that it would get lose and hurt someone in our family or animals. How some wild animals are quite they could be lose and we wouldn't know it until it was too late.

No, people shouldn't own wild animals merely due to the fact that they belong to the wild. Its the instinct of a wild animal to attack flesh once it is matured enough to understand that it is a carnivore. Besides, I think it is against the law to own wild animals. It's like taking a child away from the comfort of their homes to be nothing but a mere pet/toy to the owner.

I agree. I don't even like going to the zoo because I feel bad for the caged animals.

I'm not sure it actually depends on the person who has let that animal in their house. Some people can actually cope with a wild animal and live comfortably with it without too many incidents.I read an article once in readers digest on 2 brothers who adopted a lion and lived with it for a few years before they had to release it into the wild. The part that truly touched my heart was that when both the brothers went to visit their lion pet at the nature reserve it didn't eat them or attack them.RATHER it got on its hind legs and hugged them.

If they knew what they were doing it wouldn't be such a bad thing. Usually when i hear the stories about the people getting mauled it's because they didn't treat the animal like an animal should be. Small cages make for poor cell mates.

No I do not believe people should be able to own wild animals. It doesn't matter if they raised them from a baby, they are still a wild animal and for no other reason than instinct they will attack, sooner or later. I would not want to live next to someone that had any kind of wild animal as a 'pet'.

I do not think that people should be able to own wild animals for they are what they're called. wild. Also a wild animal doesn't deserve to be out it's natural habitat it should be in the wild with all the other wild animals and not having to take the risk of being fed the wrong things or other things that the owner might do to harm them. And I fear for the people, that they don't know what they're getting themselves into they could be badly injured or even worse.

I always thought the wild animals so wonderful, I always thought about it would bo so awesome to own a tiger or a bear, I know they can be very aggressive, they are very cute though, I wish I could at least get little closer to pet them.

I always thought that too, especially a cute little bear cup but once they get big you don't have a chance if they turn on you.

It really depends on the responsibility level of the animal owner. I knew a man who owned a bear but it attacked a kid who came to see his son. What the news didn't report was that the kid was teasing the bear from just outside its cage and the bear got mad and reached out to grab the kid. But that comes back to the adult who was not properly supervising the children.

That's another thing...most people are not responsible enough to take care of such animals

Wild animals should be left in the wild. Wild animals are born to an environment they have come to know. trying to change that changes how the animals will live.

Even if you raise them from a baby it can still turn on you. They are much more happier in the wild were they belong

It's illegal where I live, and I think it should stay that way; only people with proper training should be allowed to deal with wild animals. I know two persons who have wild animals at home: one of them is an employee of the zoo, and takes home babies or sick animals every now and then, to take care of them. What he does is illegal, but he's trained to deal with such animals, he never takes home any that could be dangerous, and he provides care that can not be offered in the zoo, so I guess it's somewhat acceptable. I keep telling him to stop doing that, I'm worried that he's going to catch and spread some mysterious illness one day, but truth is, he now has a sick little penguin at home, that's so cute, I can't help but love it and keep my mouth shut. The second person I was talking about has a hedgehog that she found in the garden, wounded. She needed about a billion permits to keep it at home, but now she owns it legally. It's pretty cute, too.

Hedgehogs are too cute. I didn't know you needed permits to have one.

I have an Iguana but from what i know, Its not considered as wild animal anymore, Iguana is now considered a normal family pet, its not as common as cats and dogs but they had been tamed for generations. My Iguana never bit me or anyone, she loves roaming around my apartment. she use to play with my cat before my neighbors poisoned my cat.

Wild animals are exactly that...wild. Even if you raise them from babies, they have the natural tendencies and inclinations of their wild counterpart. You can not train that out of them. I would fear having a wild animal in my neighborhood, and would fight tooth and nail to make sure that it was moved from the area. I have a 2 year old who does not understand that not all animals are nice.
