Lighten Up....don't wreck that joint!

As I write this, I want to motivate myself to be serious about exercising. Taking the first step in doing anything that requires discipline and exertion is hard. But when I talk to people who regularly go to the gym, for walks and jogging, I'm amazed by their happy attitude. I believe they are motivated by the idea of keeping their bodies trim and fit. I am a couch potato, no thanks to the internet which made me procrastinate exercising. I noticed that people who take good care of their health and better awareness are aging quite gracefully. They seem to be able to hold up better against Father time and continue to have longer and healthier lifestyle as compared to those of a generation or two ago. Perhaps, by actively engaging in exercise sometimes made them forget their biological age and they unwittingly continue to treat and expect their body to perform the same way. While some are lucky that they show very little physical aging they must not take for granted that it is the same inside their body. Organs and joints in the body, over time, definitely deteriorate and we should remember to treat it with more care. Don't wait for the aches and pains or mishap to tell us that we have over strained our joints. For some of us who are no longer spring chickens, we should treat our joints with care and consideration ....we've got a long way to go! Hopefully. So do you take exercise seriously?

I always take exercising for granted. Need to pull up our socks and get into action before it is too late.

Not really. It really depends on my mood. But I will try to make sure that I do some exercise a few times a week. But I don't push myself by hard to maintain and stay healthy for all this while.

I am also always procrastinating. Because of this bad habit I feel I am running to obesity.

Zandi- I take it very seriously, as I do my eating habits, and my rest time. One of the things most women neglect is their heavenly flow and they continue to push themselves during the time they should be resting. So for myself, during my heavenly flow I cut back on all heavy lifting. I still do my normal day to day things but if my husband can do them he does so I can rest. It makes for a shorter time, about 4 days rather than 7-8 days. The rest of the month is spent doing lifting three days a week, and cardio 3-4 days per week. I am currently focusing my lifting on my upper body as that is where I need the most muscle increase. I use my yoga and martial arts to work on my lower body as that only needs toning at this point in time. I also try to get in my push-up routine, and ab workouts at least 3 days a week, if not 5. For cardio I have a Wii so I am either doing the Wii Fit, or I do a dance game my husband bought me for Christmas last year. There is no need to invest in fancy equipment though or even in a gym membership. People can workout simply using the items they have at home. Taking walks is a wonderful way to get exercise on a daily basis. And you are right, your body does feel better. When you exercise you end up with more energy or even if you are tired it is a good tired. I also have found that my mind is more stimulated when I am exercising on a regular basis. Namaste-Anora

I am so motivated to read your exercise timetable and what you do to keep fit. How I wish I had done justice to my heavyweight body as I have not been up to my mark in my exercise. I really feel sluggish and unmotivated to exercise. It is just pure laziness I guess. I have been procrastinating and I am now feeling the impact of no exercise. Fats are padding on the wrong places in my body and is disfiguring my whole body outlook. I want to push myself into active workouts before I end up really obese.

After all our body is a machine, perfectly enginnered by the almighty, mighted be gurantted to last for 100 years with right food, right habits, it will have its normal wear and tear , that can't be reversed the eyes are effected first at about 40, next comes the joints, for white collar job people , who sit always, it becomes real problem, exercise is a must. because of burning soles due to diabetes, i can't walk much, use a virtual walker that shakes my legs. Thanks for sharing Cheers. God bless you, have a nice day ahead. Professor ‘Bhuwan’. .

just take it with fun, don't be too serious , there are many work in everyday that can move your whole body and at the same time don't minding you are exercising. But don't abuse the strength of your body when your time is your strongest age. Because after that age, your body will become weak and "overused" just try to live as a normal person with normal work, at the same time the food intake should also take care of,

Well personally due to a lot of other Health issues me having a chance to do much of a workout, really would depend on my ability to do that. With having a lot of Chronic pain due to arthritis or such, it makes it hard from day to day to sometimes get things done. I wish I was like a lot of normal people in their mid to late 40s who can still walk a couple miles, or go work out, but my Health just seems to not permit it.

I need to take it more seriously. I am walking more now than I was a few months ago. I would love to have a YMCA membership, mostly because I could swim and use the hot tub and sauna. I will be getting a bicycle soon. In order to save gasoline I want to be using it a lot more. Walking and bicycling will probably be my first line of defense as the weather improves.

You will sweat out toxins, and lose water weight. As far as fat, I am not sure. I do know that it helps you stand the heat better and improves circulation. I hope you get one and enjoy it.

I wonder whether sauna is helpful in melting the fats in the body. I am thinking of getting a sauna which I saw on offer recently.

Age and disabilities are barriers to an active lifestyle. But it not an excuse for not exercising. Maybe at a slower pace.

Yes indeed, we should exercise and we start before we are too old or too sick to do it. Exercising has magic. It does really make you a happy creature apart from making you healthy. And while it is true that at the start it is so hard to push oneself into a daily workout once you have started you will never regret and you will feel like your day is not complete without it. So go!!!!

I've heard of salsa but don't really know how it works to keep one fit. Walking is I think the best exercise.

Hi Zandi. I take exercise more seriously now than when I was younger. I used to exercise a lot when I was in my twenties and early thirties without being really conscious of the fact that what I was doing was exercise. I used to jet ski, snowboard and ride motorbikes a lot as well as work around my house a lot. These were physically demanding things that were exercise, but not like traditional exercise. Now that I am close to 40 and not doing those sports, I have taken up other forms of exercise to keep me healthy. I like to mountain bike, kayak and go hiking as well as archery. I also do a home workout program. As we get on in years, I believe that regular walking, swimming, yoga and stretching should be included along with a healthy diet into peoples daily or at least weekly routines. If people can go for at least a short brisk walk every morning along with some stretching or Yoga and swim at least once a week, then they will do well.

I think I need to start taking care of my body...I need to watch my diet for I eat like a King. Some people does not have an appetite when they are sick but I'm different. No sickness can prevent me from eating like a monster. Wish me luck!!!

huhu..I love foods too. But I hate to exercise. Looks like I have no choice but to do some stretches everyday to melt the fats away as a result of too much eating.
