Identify your pet.

I saw on a show once where a pet owner dressed up into something totally different and tested their pets to see if they can recognize who they were. If you had a complete appearance make over, how confident are you that your pet (it was mainly dogs) can recognize you? What about the reverse... if your cat or dog, or any other pet was in a box full with other pets as the same breed as yours, would you be able to identify which one is yours? I approached my cat at Halloween in my costume and he didn't seem to doubt it wasn't me.. but one time I had a black coat on and he got afraid. I think I can tell which is him in a box full of other white and orange cats. You?

I think I could tell my cat from others. One thing to remember is that cats and dogs go by smell and not just sight. They may be confused by different clothing but they usually know us. Animals are amazing creaters and have some very acute sensory skills we don't fully understand yet. They can smell illness in humans so why wouldn't they be able to tell their owner from a stranger?

I believe that my pets would know me. They know my smell. They do not care what I am wearing. I would be able to pick out two of my cats for sure. I might have a problem picking out my black cat, she is so black and short haired. She is not so clingy as the two tabby cats. No distinguishing marks, either. My old cat, Tiger, is developing freckles on his face and nose. My younger cat, Creamery, has a damaged ear from fighting with other cats. Princess, the black cat is perfect and smooth and does not have any marks or injuries to identify her.

I believe if i dressed up in a costume my dog would be very afraid and probably start shaking and not uderstanding things. Since are house got robbed amonth ago he has been very sceptacle with people coming in the house with dark hair and talking loudly. He might get scared of me in a costume but when i would talk he might know it was me. Now if he was in a box with other dogs of the same breed i would probably be able to pick him out as we keep his hair short due to his itching problems he has with his skin and other dogs of his breed have longer hair and curly. He also has some orange hair on his butt that im sure alot of other dogs dont have too.

Hello Lore, I'm sure every dog will eventually recognize its owner no matter what strange clothes he wear. They might be scared first (especially if the costume is much different from an usual clothing) but their smell will help them know who's hiding under that costume. if your cat or dog, or any other pet was in a box full with other pets as the same breed as yours, would you be able to identify which one is yours? I will definitely recognize my dog. Even if dogs from the same breed might seem all the same for an uninformed eye, they are so different! I remember when I was a child, my mother gave me 10 chickens as a gift. I raised them and they all had names (I named them after the soccer players from the Brazilian team - Maradona was one of them ). Even though they all looked the same, I knew each of them by his own characteristics. My parents said they didn't see any difference between them, but for me it was enough to see one of them to know what was his name.

Animals identify everything in their lives by smell. It is how a mother knows her baby. No matter what I look like, I will smell the same to them. I, on the other hand do not possess that gift. I have a hard time distinguishing between the cats in my multiple litters.

I think that our pets can recognize us by how we smell. there are objects that might scare them for whatever reasons. My mother got a puppy off of a native reservation. A few months later, someone brought her some leather shoes from that reservation, and he seemed to freak out because of the smell. Seems the people on the reservation abused him, before Mom brought him home.

Ii have done that to my dogs and they at first would be suprised and even barked at me but when she started sniffing at me, she knew it was me and didnt' freak out. I think dogs recognize the owners' smell more than anything like dressing or make up.
