I am really fun of doing that, because I find it interesting then at the same time fulfilling in the other aspects of me. Like for example instead of buying a bouquet of flower I will make one for my family. Instead of buying a decorative cake I'll do it for everyone. And a lot more, I am fun of doing it and I like doing it.

Hi ada,Yes I agree that it is a lot of fun doing your own stuff. And when you keep doing things like baking cakes and making flower bouquets, you come up with more ideas and become better at your job - thanks a lot for sharing your views, happy mylotting

At home, we usually do things around the house like fixing some broken whatsoever in the house. We are taught to be innovative and resourceful. My dad is really good with DIY jobs and usually knows his way around the house. I wish I could be more like him when it comes to repairing stuff or getting a way around something at home to make it work.

Hi rocker,I guess if parents are doing stuff around the house , children automatically develop an interest in it.I have a friend who is very good with carpentry jobs, she makes little boxes and side tables and her children are even better since they keep watching her so much so that her son has started a carpentry work shop where they make some really nice teak wood and rose wood furniture...I am sure that if you keep doing things you too will be like your father or may be even better than him some day .Thanks a lot and happy mylotting

Hi sreedhar, DIY means Do It Yourself jobs. One can fix leaky taps or change a fuse or even do some minor carpentry jobs around the house. Nowadays you get many tools and the required material for doing many such jobs around the house. We can assemble a table or a shelf from a flat pack reading the instructions etc:

Hi bhanu, you too.. LOL I was not talking about dying, I guess you dint read my entire discussion. I was discussing about Do It Yourself ( DIY) jobs that we can do around the house like carpentry, gardening or fixing some electrical wiring etc etc; which is becoming popular these days because of the rising cost of labor..

No doubt DIY is not that popular in India since labor is comparatively cheap here and one can get a carpenter to do all the jobs around our home, whereas labor is very expensive in western countries and they do most of the jobs themselves including adding porticos and redoing the kitchen etc...

I do enjoy doing some DIY jobs. There are some things that I would be nervous to do but if I think I can do it then I will at least try.

Hi cloudi, thanks a lot for sharing your views It is really nice to do something around your house, it may not look professional but it is very satisfying. I remember the time I and my children painted the little outhouse we have in the backyard.Everybody had a lot of fun and even today it brings back a lot of fond memories..all the best and have a nice evening

I heard this abbreviation for first time but it is cool. I do all the work at my room by myself. I fold my quilt and then I clean the room etc etc.. list goes on. I think if you do not do these things by your self then it would be so lazy of you. I am a young guy and I can do all the work by myself.

Hi sanjay, DIY jobs have always been popular in the western countries and now they are becoming popular even among Indians. Of course there are people in the villages and smaller towns doing their own jobs. With the rising cost of labor in the cities and also availability of raw materials and fittings it is much easier to do certain small jobs around the house now ...It is good to know that you do all your jobs , I too believe in doing every thing myself including repotting my plants and painting the inside walls in my house - enjoy your evening

Hi Kiran! I love doing some of the jobs which am comfortable with and I can easily do. For example fixing a leaking tap or fixing a fuse and replacing bulbs and tubelights. Painting my cooler or doors. However, it all depends upon availability of time. If am hard pressed for time, I call for plumber etc.

Hi deepak, It is good to know that you enjoy doing some jobs around the house. Right now I too am painting the kitchen shelves - one shelf a day since I too don't have much time and I am in no hurry...

I just love DIY. In fact sometimes DIY also costs a lot, including your time and money. But you will enjoy doing it. Lately I bought two pairs of plain canvas shoes. I am going to paint for it and they will be unique and many people will envy me at that time:) I love China

Hi youless, thanks a lot for your response . I am not sure if DIY jobs cost more since labor is free and that is quite an amount these days.I too like converting things and reusing them. I too like to paint earthenware containers and make them into colorful vases also wall hangings from gunny bags that we niormally discard ...

Hiya kiran, Well if I can´t fix them those little Jobs I really do try to which is the most important thing of all don´t you think? Not all of us are that good at those kind of Jobs. I have found temporary fixes for various things but in the end I have to call in the proper person to do the Job itself. Somethings cannot be fixed by me alone say like a tap I have half fixed it up but it´s still breaking and it needs to be replaced and very soon as well.

Hi lovinangel, thanks a lot for sharing your views ! One of course cannot do everything, but it is possible to do certain small jobs and once we become confident then we can do more complicated jobs as we get more experience.I too got my tap fixed the other day, not a perfect job since it is leaning slightly to one side lol, but I could do it and I am sure the next time I would be able to do it better, in fact thinking of redoing it all over again ! all the best and happy mylotting

I do! With all the honesty and effort. But my wife in all her wisdom calls in the handy man to redo everything again. Talk of appreciation! They call me a miser for my intentions. I simply cannot satisfy my family with my talents.

Hi webearn, LOL thats not fair, why is so? is your job not good enough for your wife or does she believe only in the handy man's work? There is a saying in my local language which means we never appreciate anything home grown rather pay more and eat what is brought from outside..

Depends on the project.I can do simple things like hanging up pictures,or fixing something minor but if you are talking about something like um hooking up a gas stove then..no I would be pretty clumsy at that and might end up blowing up my apartment O_O..so for most jobs I will just pay someone to do it if I cant.

Yes I am a DIY man ever since I was young, besides saving money it gives me joy and fulfillment when ever I can fix or create something, I love to tinker with just about anything that arouses my curiosity especially now that things seemed to have become easier because information or suggestions had readily become available on the internet.

Hi louie,Once you get hooked on to doing things by yourself there is nothing like it right? I have a cousin who is like you, always doing something or the other. His garage is his workshop filled with tools and everything else except the car lol...He is happiest when he is wearing his overalls and tinkering around there. But I have to admit that he is good at what he does .I am sure you too must be the same since you are used to doing it - all the best

yes! it is very gratifying to look at our work when is finished, and know that we did it all.We renovated the kitchen, from the exterior walls in,and it was a very long and tedious process,(we made the cabinets from scratch, tiled the floor, counter, backsplash,pu on the sheetrock,plastered,painted...).The only things we has a pro do,were the electric and plumbing. It also saved money, but the most valuable is the pride in the accomplishment

Hi aghiuta, Thanks a lot for sharing all the details. Yes it is the pride in the accomplishment that really counts. It is nice to know that you have done the entire kitchen by yourself....I am sure that this will spur you on to do more such jobs around the house - all the best and happy mylotting

I love do it yourself jobs. Before I wanted people to do it for me but as the costs of things go higher I try to learn the basic stuff on doing things around the house or anywhere else. And I find it to be enjoyable to do and fulfilling even. It just gets frustrating at times when you wanted to fix things and you end up messing them up. Well, we need to commit mistakes to learn new stuff right?

Hi jhaidro, I agree that by doing small jobs around the house we can save quite a bit of money.Making is a mistake is something that can happen easily with anyone, but when you keep doing things by yourself you get more experience and you become better each time...thanks a lot and have a nice evening
