OMG! I wish I could just hug away your pain!!! I suffer from chronic pain too. I had a serious neck injury in 1982 and the pain has never stopped since that accident. My pain has now extended to include my arms, legs, hands, shoulders and lower back. The past two suggestions are wonderful. I can't smoke pot, but I brew it in my tea or add it to my meals. It does sooth the pain a bit, but not to the point that I would really like. How are you taking the medication? With the pain you're in, you need to keep an eye on the time. I was told in the hospital to take the next dose between fifteen and thirty minutes before your dose is due. This will allow you to keep the frantic edge off the pain. Also, I take my pain meds with something sweet. The sugar will carry the pain medication through your system faster than just a glass of water. People have poo pooed me until they have tried it themselves and found out I was right. Also, don't be afraid to take it earlier than usual on really bad pain days. You're going to find that you have more pain on days that are cold or when storms are coming through. The barametric pressure changes really affects the pain. I also am on Norco, 10's. It works okay until I run out (which just happened) and I have to wait to pick up the refill. I saw the doctor yesterday and I got to the pharmacy and saw that he stated that the meds couldn't be refilled until today. ###%!!! and quite a few other bad words!) It wouldn't be so aggravating except that I have to drive an hour one way to get to town...plus with the storms in California I can't always get out as I also have to cross a "creek" that turns into a raging river when we have enough rain. I would push like crazy to get into a pain clinic. The pain needs to be brought under control before you do something not quite bright (I've been there often!) If there is a university with a medical center nearby, push to get them to see you and refer you to the pain clinic. I got lucky as the doctor prescribed a roll on pain killer from a pharmacy that really helps. It contains lidocaine and a bunch of other stuff that really helps. I apply it topically to the areas that are really bad and as the lidocaine sinks into the skin it medicates the nerve endings to make them stop shorting out. Since the tumor is on your spine, it makes things worse as it is right on the main channel to the nerves and the pain. That's when this roll on stuff would really help out as it could be applied to your spine and when it seeps in it would sooth the nerves. In between when the pain is bad, I find something that will keep my mind occupied. Something that is mentally challenging like crosswords etc. I make teddy bears and jewelry. I work at focusing my mind on what I'm doing and soon I am not noticing the pain. I also would discuss this with my doctor and if he doesn't listen, then find a new doctor. Part of the patients bill of rights is that you have the right to live as close to pain free as possible. I get really upset at the fact that the government has taken over and is controlling the medications for people who have enough sense to medicate themselves....after all some of this stuff is kind of ridiculous! Like reading my medication bottles and haveing it glaringly state "take one pill by mouth"...where else am I going to take it? Shove it up my fanny? Or how about "do not operate heavy machinery after taking this medication"? Like I'm going to have the overpowering urge to go out and joy ride in a bull dozer? I can understand with things like Prepreation H, some people have taken it orally instead of using it where it was intended...Maybe they thought it was chocolate? Please feel free to PM me anytime. I just wish there was more I could do for you...no one should be in horrible pain!!!
