Can Haircolor Damage your Hair?

Having gray hair, I colored my hair once every month with one of those hair coloring kits from the drug store. After a couple of years doing this I now notice that my hair lacks shine and my really thick hair started to thin out.- So I heard that henna is really good for your hair and I tried it. The red color I was skeptical of turned out really nice and natural looking. What are your experiences?

i haven't tried henna, but i'm glad it worked well for you. coloring hair can make it very dry. i do mine at home too. yes, i think it does damage it as it is a chemical. i would go to the salon but that can get costly. i keep my hair short. there is less to color.

I have dyed my hair for fun when I was younger and it did a lot of damage to my hair. Especially cause some had a lot of bleach in them too. But there's alot of unhealthy chemicals that can damage your hair in dyes

my hairdresser told me that colouring your hair would actually thicken it

Hair color can have chemicals in it. These makes the hair dryer and over a period of time the hair shine goes away. Split ends can be more likely to occur with colored hair. If someone with dark brown hair dyes her hair blond she will have route growth to worry about. I tried coloring my hair in the past but it gave my hair a poor condition. I liked using henna when I was even younger because it gave my hair body, shine and a subtle color. Henna can make a hair color look natural and hair dye can sometimes make hair color look unnatural. I might start using henna again because more gray hairs seem to be appearing for me.

There are lots of chemicals in those dying hair products and it does harm your hair. Long time ago, I used to dye my hair a lot, then my hair got all ruined and dried out. It took a long time for my hair to grow back nice. I won't dye my hair anymore, besides, when you dye your hair, the chemicals don't just go on your hair but your skin...

I have not heard of Henna at all, but then again i let a professional hair stylist do my hair and add in my low lights and high lights every three months for me. I dont like looking ridiculous and ive tried some home high lights before that my om was doing for me but then i opted to stop that and get it done professional. My hair was thin and not shiny before i went to the hairstylist and i feel it is the same way all though i do know that getting color in your hair hurts your hair after all and well i guess its ok so many people do it and i dont feel my hair is going to be falling out anytime soon at least.

Hey lologirl, Yesterday I heard from a Turkish Lady, that they use henna as a spa treatment, because it relaxes you.

Hi lakshmi11, Though it is still not established as a fact, hair dyes have caused bad reactions among some people like redness, itchy or irritated skin, burning, hair loss with an extreme allergic reaction, facial swelling and labored breathing.Another problem to the hair emerges when women have their hair straightened and colored, too. Also, overuse of dyes, dye sitting too long to develop, and other variables can damage hair. This will typically mean breaks in the shaft of the hair. It also depends upon what brand of hair dye that you are using. If you're using a grocery store brand, then there are more cahnces that the hair dye will damage your hair. If you're going to a saloon it depends on what you're doing. The grocery store brands have minerals in them that are really bad for your hair's natural structure, where as a saloon's brand tries to work with your hair.

Hello laksmi, To hide the gray hair both male and female use hair colour ( Oh my youth, how strongly I long for you)but they pick up any product from the market and some people start losing hair. My wife and I use burgundy colored Garnier hair dyer. This product has suited both of us and we do not have the thinning hair. If you have this problem you better see a beautician.

Haircolor can be harsh on your hair. All those chemicals and dyes can't be helping your hair or your scalp. I have heard that coloring your hair too much can cause your hair to fall out. I don't color my hair so I don't have to worry about that but i do have family members who color their hair quite a bit. They are not worried, so I guess i have to do it for them.

I've seen it being really bad to the hair, to a friend and that's why Britney Spears is going bald for example, her hair is falling off cause she always dye and it's not good. Dying the hair should be done from time to time, not always.

Hair coloring really makes hair dry and dull. But there are also salon services that are offered in order bring back the natural bounce and shine of your hair. There is the hot oil treatment, hair cellophane, hair mascara etc. Don't like coloring my hair but I also experienced having dry lifeless hair.
