I worked doing secret shopping for a company 15 years ago. Then we moved and I had a baby, therefore I stopped. They gave me a report form to fill out and mail and I got paid regularly. Then about 5 years ago,I did 3 shoppes for another company and they required me to fill my report in online and send it in to the via email. They said they did not receive any of the reports, even after I repeated emailing them to them 3 times for each report. So,I never got paid. Then just a few months ago a company prepaid me for the expense of my purchases of the shop, plus my pay.The check that they sent me went thru and I completed the shoppes. Then two days later I received a call from my credit union saying that they were contacted and told that the bank account that the check was written on was false. Therefore I have to pay the bank back for the money. Does anyone know of a secret shopping company that is reliable like the first one that I worked for?

Yikes, that is scary! I've never done Mystery shopping before but I hope you don't fall for that again. Be careful!

Sorry to hear about all of your issues with Mystery Shopping sites and such. The problem can be with a lot of the places in paying you like they promised almost as in like any other online thing you might do as well. I do know someone here in our area that does a Secret shopping thing from a local company, but not sure of anything else out there. Good Luck trying to find something.

I have heard alot of that kind of thing. No I do not. I signed up for a few a long time ago, but nothing ever came of them. I don't even know what they were.

I had done a few mystery shops several years ago, but I don't remember the company. I don't think I would even consider a company that prepaid you before you did the work. Most of the ones I worked with didn't pay by check. I think if I were to do it again, I would see if they paid by paypal or something because it doesn't make sense to trust paper checks. I'm sorry that the company did that to you.

I recently began using SCI (Shopper's Critique International) and I have had no qualms with it thus far. I think the prospect of mystery shopping is vey intriguing - if I can get paid a little bit to fill out a short report on my experience there AND get a free item or service, I'm all for it. You have to be really careful when looking for Mystery Shopping opportunities, though. There are many scams out there. Anyone that will pre-pay you or require you to pay for membership or certification is most certainly a scam. Mystery shopping should require no out of pocket investment from you. Look for sites that have been around a while and have many good reviews around the web.
