Carling Cup Final

Did you see it you? Congratulations to Birmingham they deserved their success over Arsenal but yet again Arsenal proved how they struggle when it comes to beating the so called smaller clubs but this was in game of importance. Arsenal have now gone for five-six years without a trophy which isn't good by a club of their standard especially with all the top players they have. The final may just cause Arsenals players to lose belief and their heads may just drop towards the end of the season . The game was quite equal but Birmingham did the key thing in the game as they took their chances which paid off in the end. How do you think Arsenal will respond now?

Only one term comes to my mind and that is chokers. Arsenal really hammered Birmingham, but Birmingham showed great character in keeping on coming back and attacking Arsenal with the long ball. Then disaster struck for Arsenal when they handed the match in a platter for Martins to score and win the match for Birmingham. So the quadruple is already started to fall apart again this season. Now they have the simple matter of getting past Barcelona in the Champions League, or getting past Man U in the FA Cup or catching up on 4 points against Man U for the league title. I think another trophy less season beckons Arsenal. Cheers! Ram

Now that two non-Arsenal fans are baiting me, I will not fall for it :). Anyhow, this seems to be the same story as over the past four years. They reach this stage where they are alive in multiple tournaments and then suddenly have the mid feb, mid march brain freeze and are out of all the tournaments in the blink of an eye. Carling Cup was always going to be their best bet for a silverware this season and that is out of the window now. Cheers! Ram

I couldn't agree more with you, stevieboi19...It didn't seem like the Gunners hammered Birmingham anyway...In fact, they are trailing at the 28 minute by a brilliant Zigic goal before van Persie equalize for them...Before that it was a so-so game with balance on both side...I believe that saying Arsenal dominated the game is quite misleading, as both side exchanged blows fiercely...

The term chokers does just come to mind the players have once again shown that they lack the mental ability needed when it comes to winning silverware Which I'm happy with being a Manchester United fan lol. The season now has fierce battles for Arsenal to contend with an the likeliest trophy they'll win this season is the FA cup but even so it will be tough for them. Wenger must be livid though. I'm not entirely sure about your belief that Arsenal hammered Birmingham as the game very equal in my opinion

As a Manchester United fan I was delighted to see Birmingham City win the game the way they did. Arsenal need to win a Trophy soon otherwise the greatest manager in their History will undoubtedly have to leave. No matter how much faith you have in the Manager when you are a club like Arsenal and haven't won a single trophy for five nearly six years then it's time to make a change.

I'm a Manchester United fan also and was happy to see Birmingham record the victory and also believe there success was deserved after their brilliant cup run . The Brum players have been brilliant for them and will hopefully kick on towards the end of the season and hopfully not fall apart with their trophy success

Birmingham has done well in the final and they should be given credit for that...Moreover, by winning the cup they will also eligible to play in the Europa Cup, which is a new experience for them...I believe this will be the turnaround for the Brum in the league especially, as well as their coming Europe pursuit... As for Arsenal, pity for them. The first trophy is so close, yet so far! Just quoting a saying, "Arsenal will be always close to the cup, but will never hold it"

@livecenter they certainly have done well to reach the final in the beginning and their success was deserved unlike Arsenals players they realised that to win the cup is a once in a life opportunity for some players . Birmingham took advantage of Arsenals failings and the result was no fluke by all means they deserved their success. Arsenal need to improve their attitude in the final stages of competitions they need to show a bit more belief because whats the point in having the talent/players they have without ever standing up and achieving anything with it . Yet another Arsenal failing in their recent history of failing

i think arsenal waste their chances to get a cup ...since 6 years ago, arsenal never win everything...it`s big lost i think and wenger must cry for it.... arsenal is good team, attrative team but they never win anything since 6 years ago

They are a brilliant team who play attractive football only second to Barcelona in my opinion in terms of the most stylish team in the world . The loss is blow and certainly will be a hard one to take giving the fact they were up against a team of supposedly lower reputation but once again Arsenal proved that they don't like beating the so called smaller teams . If Arsenal keep failing to capitalise on big occasions they may just see not only their manager leave but also a number of their key players both current and their future stars . As a United fan I love to see Arsenal failing but also want their current crop of players stay together so in this sense I hope they secure something next season so the best players will remain in the premier league.

I can't believe my eyes when I woke up that morning just to see the result ...Arsenal are a good team, and for them to lose to a "smaller" club like Birmingham is the least expected from them...But, the ball is round and everything can happen in football...As a United fan, I am obviously delighted to see them beaten , but at the same time wonder how they will respond to this disastrous defeat...To beat all the teams but lose at the final against smaller fish is somehow humiliating...But, they have to lift their face, and now only time will tell how they would do that...

Forgotten something in my respond...As for me, I believe they should respond by adding more "experienced" players to improve their game play, and Arsene should spend some pots of gold to do this...

Birminham deserved their success though they both played well and were equals on the pitch . I think Arsenal will throw away their season in the next few games but I do believe they will dump United out of the FA cup . Although they more than likley will fail to win it . In terms of experience Arsenal have a lot of experienced players they may still be a young team but if you've played first team football as long as a number of them have then they become experienced players which they currently are. It's easy for people to blame them for their youthfulness but youth doesn't always means inexperienced.

On the contrary, as MU fans, I feel sorry for Arsenal. They should have win this trophy as they were a good team. And I think it's better for they to win in this cup, rather than in FA Cup or even in the League. As I will choose MU to do so :D I think Arsenal will respond like usual. They won't win anything this season. I believe they need some players with more experiences rather than counting on 'only' on young boys. Arshavin was one of them. But they need more like him.

I really think in terms of football it's good that Birmingham won the Carling cup as it shows the nature of football being unpredictable and not as clear cut as some might suggest . Birmingham deserved it though they've worked hard to and earned the right to be Carling cup winners . The FA may not Arsenals trophy but I expect United to beaten by them United will take the league though despite their loss at Chelsea . Players with more experience? They have experience in the team, everyone says there a young side whilst true it's not as if these players haven't played enough games for Arsenal to still consider them as inexperienced they need to take their opportunity to earn a trophy and not waste golden opportunities such as this cup final.

That's true it's becoming all too common to hear of Arsenals failings at the last hurdle.

Birmingham deserved to win the cup due to the amount of effort put into the game from the hole team. Arsenal were looking not to have conceded and had the goalkeeper sent off in the first half. Arsenal still have a huge chance of winning a trophy this season but they have done before and have still missed out. in my opinion if Wenger has a great team at his disposal and hes not achieving anything with them, if theres no trophies this year he needs to go.

Birmingham desreved the trophy albeit Arsenal handed it to them but they deserved their luck at the end of the day, it's a good result for them and football . Arsenal amy struggle to win a trophy this season with the likleist for the FA cup. Wenger will leave or be sacked though and nor should he, he's made the team as good as they are and while they fail to have the mentality to win when it matters I simply love his style of football . Wenger will only leave if he retires in my opinion and sacking him lead to trouble at the club
