we got a puppy 3 weeks ago. She is 2 1/2 months old now. she is half pit bull and half mastiff with is a mix of two very smart dogs and i have another pit who is 4yrs and he is fully trained to go out and go to the bathroom but she is not getting the concept of going to the bathroom out side. she goes out and fallows him he goes to the bathroom and she goes a little and as soon as she comes back in then she goes to the bathroom agean. i don't get it i tell her she is a good girl when she is out and goes to the bathroom. when she goes inside i stick her nose by it to show her what she did and i tap her nose with my finger and tell her how she is a bad girl and how you go pee pee out side and then i put her back out for a few mins. how long dose it take to train a dog to go out and am i doing it wrong?

No you are not doing anything wrong. Some dogs take a little longer, I say continue what you are doing and patiently hope that she begins the confidence to go out a bit more.

Hope I can still train my dogs. But I don't think so. They're very naughty. =( They're too tiring to take care of..

It took us only a week or two to teach our dog housebreaking. He would give us a signal when he wanted to go. We trained him to use only that door to go out to bathroom - I think it is what succeed. We had to keep an eye on him though, when he acted like he wanted to go, we let him out of that door and let him sniff outside until he went. If he peed inside the house, we firmly told him NO. He lernt it quick, everytime when he wants to go now, he told us at the door. I think the tip is only take him out at the same door so he knows when you let him out of that door, it is time to go. It takes lots of patience I know, I hope you will get her to housebreak soon!

Each dog is different, some take longer than others to learn to be house broken. However, I have a pit bull/black mouth cur......I did the same as you are doing, she would follow her momma outside and that is basically how she got house broken. There are going to be accidents from time to time until she is fully trained. You might try letting them stay out a little longer. Another alternative is crate training. Letting her stay in her crate, pick her up or let her follow him outside, then back in the crate til the next time to go out.

hello palonghorn thank you for the advice but i feel like it is very mean to have an animal live in a crate the only time i put her in a crate is when we go to sleep at night and when we go out other wise she runs around the house all day.
