Lump it or leave it?

I happened to catch one of the talk shows yesterday and the topic was energy. The expert stated that over half of our electric power was produced by coal..ok..and it got my 'half bubble off plumb' mind going. I got to thinking about all the fuss with the new energy efficient/eco-friendly hybrid and all electric vehicles that are making their way into consumer land. What I'm wondering is if these 'green' folks are aware of the eco-unfriendly polluting method of providing this 'clean' resource, or if they even care, content with their little bubble of satisfaction that they are 'doing their part' for the planet. Am I just being unreasonable or do you think this is a viable argument?

Hiya greenfeathers, We have seen one or two Models on the Television where they try to sell you that their Car a hybrid one is very eco-friendly and all that. However they donĀ“t tell you the price and how much material it took to make that either. It neither states exactly what energy it would run on at the moment. Because none of those Electric Recharge things are set up properly yet. In fact they are very few and far between. I know a bit about the rest of it the Energy crisis too. We have Farmers giving up their Fields thinking that they are going to make money with putting Solar Panels in there instead. Now the Electric Company does not want to pay them what they agreed on in the first place. The question is it really worth it all these Windfarms we have got over here that make the Countryside an eyesore because there are too many of them in the wrong places it seems. Power Industry Boffins are stating that they need more power than that. Well I ask you after all the effort these Farmers have gone into to put them on their Land are they now going to leave them high and dry? No one has any real answers for anything. They are producing Hybrid Cars here but it does not seem that they are very popular either. From what I hear no one feels that they are doing their bit at all. The price of the Car is quite expensive it seems as well. I am not an expert nor pretend to be but I do see what is going on in this Country at the moment. Just my view of this side of the World. Take care now.xxx

There is a case for localising energy production, especially energy production from non-renewable resources and fossil fuel, both of which tend to produce pollutants as by-products. Ask yourself whether you would rather have the centre of cities polluted by gas fumes or whether it is better to keep all those pollutants to individual sites, well away from human habitation, and in large factories which are better able to catch and deal with the pollution they produce. For the moment, the cheapest energy is still that from fossil fuel. As the economy develops and fossil fuel becomes more expensive to produce, we shall have to look for other (and hopefully cleaner) sources. The use of electric and hybrid vehicles, especially in centres of population where traffic is high and journeys are short makes a great deal of sense.
