Well it was nice and sunny here today. The temp was 79 so I put some radishes in the ground. I hope that in a few days I will have a treat. Sowed some lettuce also. What have you got started?

Hello Manleyjoe, I haven't started any work in the garden yet. I planned to go plant some raspberry trees tomorrow and on Saturday I'm going to plant some new trees for fruits. This year I'll plant one cherry tree (to replace one of the two I planted last spring), two peach trees, two apricot trees, three plum trees and a lot of hazelnut trees. I just can't wait to see my orchard growing!

I don't have much room so I am doing my gardening in pots this year. Don't have any fruit trees around but do have a Hazel nut grove behind my blackberries. Squirrels usually get more than I do though.

Room is a problem here too so I will just shoot one every now and then and have fried squirrel for supper. Our house backs to a 20 acre wooded area so I can hide behind a tree and wait for them to come out.

I hate squirrels. A friend of mine has been feeding his very well with black oil sunflower seeds to keep them out of his garden. It is working. Though, those seeds cost a bit of money to feed the darned things all season. Maybe you can plant some sunflowers for them. I don't have room to do that in my yard.

I love radishes and I have tried to grow them several times but they only grow to a very tiny size, gardening is not one of my strong points.

I'm trying in pots this year as we have moved to an apartment and room is limited. I'm not good but I sure enjoy it.

I haven't got anything outside yet, but I have lettuce, radishes and onions growing in pots inside. I put them out in the afternoons when it warms up. It's still a little chilly here, but the sun has been warm. The lettuce is almost big enough to make a sandwich and I'm ready for it! I have intentions of getting out and cleaning up the gardens this weekend. Some things are starting to grow, like rhubarb and I want to see which ones of my herbs and other things made it through the winter.

It probably will, as long as you don't get a hard freeze. A little snow shouldn't hurt them.

The onions did well and I have started my second growing of radishes. We have gone from winter straight into summer type weather here again.

I have now added green onions and this morning I got up to about 1 inch of snow on everything. It was a day early, the snow so I got caught. I am hoping that everything will come out ok.

Well due to this yr. being a lot wetter than normal I am sure not many Gardens got planted anywhere this yr. around here, and are going to be lucky if they have good results. Usually we plant stuff such as Carrots, and Onions, and sometimes other stuff. We do have Strawberry plants that are continuing to produce that we bought last yr. and have gotten some strawberries off of them already.

Blueberries sound really good. Especially fresh. I have thought about making sure we have some radishes soon and carrots, and then check and see how the strawberry plants look and see if we need to buy some more of them as well, and really also wanting to do Tomatoes.

Around here it started off early pretty wet but now it is hot and dry. I have been able to get a couple of plantings of radishes and a good amount of onions. I put out a couple of blueberry bushes this spring and they seem to be doing real good, hope I'll have blueberry on my oatmeal next summer.

It's gonna be my first competitive marathon even though i have run equal distances, but at a leisure pace.. I hope i will be able to finish in a decent time, and that will be more achievement.. haha

Hi Manly. Good for you! But, didn't you just have snow a few days ago? Will your radishes survive another cold snap?

Yep had 9 inches Monday, but I'm using pots this year so if it does turn cold I will just pull them inside the garage for a day or two.

I have used small pots for several years now to grow my spices. This year I thought I would try some small veggies.

I have peas that we are picking. I have planted cucumbers for pickles and lots of different kinds of tomatoes and three types of peppers. Lots of herbs and that is it so far. I have a lot of seed and need to prepare more seedbeds for planting. Oh, I planted purple potatoes too.

You have been busy! We have had rain or storms most every week since it became mild enough to start planting, so I have only tomatoes and peppers that are doing well. My second crop of radishes are doing well, the onions are about all gone. I may try to get another crop of green onions before it gets too hot. Purple potatoes, let me know how they turn out.

Hi manleyjoe, I think I have to take a piece of cake and a hot cup of coffee first to give me some energy I then can start reading and typing here The weather in this tropical region is fine and comfortable in the morning. The rest of the time it's scorching. Tropical vegetable plants grow well here. My long beans, chilies, eggplants, lady's fingers, sweet potatoes, etc grow vigorously and vividly during rainy days Happy posting

Hi lkbooi, Yes one needs to jump start the body of a morning, especially if we are not a morning person. I would like to have some beans and corn but have not yet got a place large enough to plant the corn. I thinking of a raised area in an empty lot nearby for next year.

WOW...from snow to 79, in one week, quite a temperature transition! In my area, a 7, I just turned all the soil, weeded and am ready for spring planting of cool weather crops in about two weeks! I will be planting, beans, peas, all forms of kales, lettuces, and of course Spinach! The radish seed I mix with the other seed, as it propogates so fast..it distinctly marks each row, and when I pull them, they aerate the other seeds. Sorta, like killing two birds with one stone. Last Fall, I ceremoniously (because I revere)planted nearly 900 Garlic (897) of many different varieties. My biggest challenge, this winter (the coldest on record) was to keep them from freezing..lots of mulching, and row covers on..row covers off! Phew! So I had a busy winter gardening, too. Usually, I can grow Kale, brussels, etc., all winter...NOT this year. Can't wait for a sun-kissed tomato or strawberry, tho! Take care..and Cheers!

We are in zone 5 here and this winter has been one of the coldest I can remember in a long time. I have grown strawberries in pots for several years and just pull them into the garage when cold weather gets here and back out in Spring.
