With the rapid development of technology. And easy access to electronic sources, such as e-books, articles, magazines, journals, news, etc. What do you think? Does the library still important and still needed?

I think there is. Not all people can afford appliances which they can read ebooks on (not even a computer). Also, digitalizing ALL the existing books (textbooks, science books, novels stc.) would cost lots of money, energy and time, they couldn't be done in one or two years, and some of them are really needed for students (especially college/university students writing their theses).

Libraries are still important. We can find a huge amount of information on the internet, but we can't find everything online. When I was a student I used the internet a lot, but I think that the internet compliments books, it doesn't replace them. If need a lot of information about a topic I prefer to borrow a book about that topic. I can get the besic information from the internet, but I don't get all of the details that I get from a book. Today's libraries are different from the libraries that we had in the past. In the beginning we were only able to borrow books. Today we can do a lot of other things: We can borrow cds and dvds, we can download e-books, we can download films, we can can use the internet etc. In the past the librarians only helped users who were looking for a particular book. Today they do a lot of other things, and you can ask them for help if you don't know how to download books, how to use the internet etc.

Yes! I think libraries are still important. I do really appreciate the existence of computer and the Internet. However, I still do love browsing information in the library.

Yes, I believe libraries are very important. Just a little while back I did a group research paper for college. We were supposed to come up with information about art pieces and architecture in France during the 1600s. I went down to the college library and picked up a textbook on the subject. Found exactly what I needed to use for my part of the paper and got it done in no time. My teammates, on the other hand, all went straight to the internet and complained that they could find NOTHING. And yet I flipped open the textbook that I'd gotten from the library, and low and behold! All the information they needed and more. The internet is not making us smarter. lol Since then I've completely dropped the internet off my research radar.

Hi haryonurtiarb and a warm welcome to myLot! Yes libraries around her are still very much needed. There are references books that are not located online. Our libraries also hold college courses in the libraries as well as children programs. Are the libraries near you being used?

Yes, the library is still importance nowadays. Although we have all of the advance technology gadgets, they are just a temporary medium to store our data or information. For me, the permanent place to store all of the data and the information should be the physical books in the library.

i think they still are. when i was doing my thesis in college just a few years back, we were allowed to use the net minimally as our source of information. we had to present a bibliography of all the physical books we used and to add footnotes in our research. it was all tedious work but its something that i was proud of having done. people of the younger generation should try to utilize library resources even every once in awhile.

hello, In my opinion I think it is needed of course because books in library are still consider a source of knowledge because even not all of the people know how to use internet access because what if you are a poor people and then you don't even know how to use computers. right? not all people have a chance to access a net. maybe they know computers but they dont have enough knowledge to use it. so, that is why they still need books for the first step of learning. good luck hope it help.
