I think rats make great pets, but many people seem to freak out especially about the tail. There are genetic lines of rats that don;t have tails. But would that mean people would thinkg they are cute like a hamster or a guinea pig, or just an even weirder rats?

rats are very beautiful. I love their narrow little pointy faces, fine, long whiskers, busy little noses, bright, intelligent eyes, delicate ears, sleek little bodies, perfect little hands for paws, that are so agile and dainty when they pick up and handle things, and yes, even their lovely soft, warm tails. I wouldn't like to have a rat without a tail. it would affect their balance, and they wouldn't be so agile and fun to watch and play with. I think rats are already cuter than hamsters or guinea pigs, both of which I have also kept as pets over the years. rats are by far the best rodent or rodent like pets there are. they're so bright, funny and affectionate.

I agree with you. I think if people start breedng for the tailless gene it will not be good for the health of the rats.
