Japan Earthquake

I have been watching video's of the earthquake and i have mixed feelings about it . Its both a marvelous and tragic thing. Now before you start jumping on my comment about it being marvelous , the reason I chose such wording is because the greatness of the wave, the power behind it, is simply mind blowing. If you haven't seen video footage yet, you should check it out as soon as possible. The Red Cross has raised over 93.3 million dollars to aid in this tragic crisis. I have no idea how I would react to such a horrific incident, but it was eye opening to say the least. I am glad to live in an area that has no real disasters besides a few and I mean few monsoon's and the possibility of a drought. What would you do if you came home from vacation or some other event just to find your house completely and utterly destroyed. What are your thoughts on the work currently being done to aid Japan in this time of need? Is it sufficient? I see a lot of hostility from United states residents on the youtube comments, do you believe they deserve our aid? If you are interested in learning more about this incident or how to help go to the website www.redcross.org and click the "Japan Disasters" link found under "red cross news" Happy lotting!

My cousins are still unaccounted for at this time. We believe they are ok since they were supposed to be in the Kumamoto Prefect, but we are hoping that they weren't visiting the areas hardest hit. Thank you for posting this and keeping awareness of the Red Cross assistance and donations going strong.

As far as the hostility goes, let the people have their anger and help themselves to it. I am one of those people affected by unemployment, but I will pull myself up by my own boot straps. I will not go hungry or without clothing. I am not so proud that I feel like I deserve a handout or a job is "beneath" me. I will get my hands dirty. Unlike the US, the businesses and farmers in Japan will receive no bailouts. So many have lost everything. They are not asking for a handout like many American companies will freely do so. There are no reports of lootings, unlike those you see in the US. Those who are angry can keep their anger. It is theirs. Not mine. I choose to define my own situation, not blame everyone for it. My friend, Joan, is a teacher over there and doing her best to help the children return to as close to "normalcy" possible. Many have lost parents, grandparents and other family members... and it seems more often than not... all at once. How "normal" can things be returned to? I have great admiration for the people working their butts off over there to keep the reactors under control. I have serious doubts that anyone would do that for the greater good here where it just seems like it's "all about me". We would do well to learn a lesson from this.

I would like to think that the U.S as a whole is not the same as an individual. In that I mean, I would like to believe that there are good people who are willing and able to help in times of terrible disasters. I understand a lot of American's try to live the "American dream" which in itself is all about them, but I also believe that there are good people. Thanks for your response ^_^

As a whole, this has become the reality in the news. Of course, bad news always travels faster than good... and more often. There are good people. I didn't mean for it to sound like there weren't. I was focused mainly on the "angry" people. My grandmother always used to say, "Let them have it." (Whatever "it" was... it was their burden to carry, not mine. Her way of saying I should mind my own business and not let someone else's affect me.) I'm so tired from talking to search sites and the embassy. It's very disheartening.

I agree with you, a tolerant world is a good world to live in, I think as we approach on a new year and I do see it daily, people are starting to reach out to one another and it's helping us grow. We are more than the barbarians we used to be. Together we can be the change we wish to see in the world. I truly believe that quote.

hi wickedspies maybe they are being hostile because our president helps every country in distress yet his own people are int the worst economic disaster here since the first depression with people out of work for two years and still more jobless then there are jobs. we all want America to help Japan of course but we feel that our president also needs to divert some help for the hundreds of Americans out of work and inreal trouble having homes forclose or being evicted from their apartmens. people here are also hurting in a different kind of disaster.of course we send help to Japan. but we should also get some help here now on the homefront.

Economic disaster? dude being jobless and having your legs trapped under a building and bleeding from your head while having radiation slowly poisoning you are two completely different levels. Maybe you should divert your attention to getting your president to get you help. This could help you economiccally if you played it right. American companies could produce things for the aid. They could then employ american companies to ship it overseas and distribute it. The government could pay nurses and doctors to go over and help with aid.

I don't know the history between American and Japanese, but I am sad to know that there are hostility towards people who are in needs. When the thing is reversed, I believe we will be humble and accept any supports given to us. Everything has a reason. If we do not learn now, we will learn in future. It's like a cycle.

Lots of people live in areas where there are all kinds of natural disasters. There are Hurricanes and Tornados that hit many parts of the states.

I agree. We all have to be thankful with where we live now. :/

Hi, wickedspies, the powers in the nature are marvellous, and a solution to avoid tragedies like this would be that people lived in areas without these enourmous risks. There is plenty of room in this world, so what we need is a world government that can organize things in the best way for everyone.. Impossible?? Yes, it is for us - we cannot change the world, but the good news is that our Creator has planned this world government thousands of years ago to take away all power from greedy, corrupt and unwise leaders of the world. After having described the world powers from Egypt until our days, the prophet Daniel describes what will happen next: "“During the reigns of those kings, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed or conquered. It will crush all these kingdoms into nothingness, and it will stand forever." Daniel 2:44 (New Living Translation) This government also controls the powers in the nature, so we will not need to fear any disasters. Psalm 37 describes how the world will look like during that time. This time we can only do our small part by helping others the best we can, but the best thing we can do is to spread the message of hope about this great government that will soon rule over the earth.

Why would anyone be hostile towards them? Thats horrible. I mean the majority of the US is Christian. Jesus teaches to help others. These are other human beings... they are the same as us and they deserve our compassion and support.
