Have you used your passport?

I had my passport after college with the hope of one day be able to travel abroad. I had already acquired a new one when I got married but the day where I will have a stamped on my passport will still to come. But I am hopeful, when my kiddo will be old enough to remember things, I'd really like to take him to Hong Kong Disneyland. Have you ever used your passport? Where are the places you've been to?

Hi sweet_pea! Yeah! I did...many times....I got my first passport in 1995 the same year I traveled to Hongkong and China. It took me several years before I made my next travel in 2001 when I went to Europe, I got my Schengen Visa through the German Embassy where I also entered the Schengen State (the same year I got US visa, 10 years validity, multiple entry). I stayed 3 months in Germany and had the opportunity to visit Salzburg in Austria and Alsace in France. In 2002, I accepted a job offer in Doha Qatar, 2003 moved to Dubai, 2004 moved to Oman. In 2005, I traveled several times to Dubai from Muscat for shopping. In 2006, I traveled to Cairo, Egypt. In 2007, I visited the United Kingdom, entered England and traveled to Edinburgh, in Scotland. In 2008 my passport took a holiday, LOL! It was not used for the whole year. In 2009, I traveled to the US and stayed there for 6 months and in 2010, I came here in Muscat for employment purposes. My passport is very tired and dirty while my bank account is empty LOL!

Yeah it's true....when I got some money to buy an air ticket to somewhere....off I go. While I am in the gulf region, I wish I could visit Istanbul, Petra and Beirut. It would be much cheaper coming from here in Muscat as they are nearer compared than originating from Manila, air ticket would be more expensive and since not much Filipinos are going to those destinations.

My passport is very tired and dirty while my bank account is empty. Can't help myself but laugh! But it is true. Traveling will cost you a lot of money, but you get a lot of memories. I'm sure you get to tell so many stories about your travels to your grandkids someday. I guess you just need to work hard for your next trip. Be safe always!

I've used my passport for ID, since it is a valid ID. My old passport had 1 stamp on it, when we went to HK. and I have to tell you, Disneyland's a dream! You should really really go there! My parents were around 45-47 when we went there and they were like kids in Disneyland!!! Anyway, that passport already expired so I had to renew it. Renewed it late last year and was able to use it to go to Thailand. It was a company trip, and I enjoyed it immensely!

Even if you go now, he'll remember it. especially when you talk about it a lot. I have vivid memories back when I was still 3. But then again, you could save up a lot in 2 years and you can stay in the disney hotel!!!

Well my parents used to tell me that I went to Manila Zoo when I was young and I can't even remember if I had seen the monkeys! I know we will be spending on this trip so it is really a big deal that he remembers every moment of it. So did you stayed at Disney Hotel?

Glad to hear you've used it to travel overseas apart from using it as a valid id like i do! Yeah, I heard so much about Disneyland and how adults become kids again! I am thinking to go there when my son is 7. So he can have a memory of Disneyland. But that would be 2 years from now and I think I need to renew my passport again by that time because I think it would expire by then. Goodness! I'll be having passport#3 and I haven't anything stamped on them!

I have used my passport before but not to travel. I have used it as a means of identification when i needed to change money to a different currency. Other than that though i really hope i really get to use my passport to travel this summer. I have been saving a some of money to spend when i go abroad. The only problem i really face now is who I am going to stay with. I have to go stay with someone or my father wont let me go spend the holidays. I am hoping that i will be able to stay with my uncle up there but although he agrees, he is also saying that there could be a small possibility that he might have to leave the country too. And if he leaves the country I will have no one to stay with. So I am just keeping my fingers cross and saving some more money. Hopefully i really get to go for the first time. If i go i will be so happy as this will be my first plane ride ever. I have never been on a plane before. I really hope that i get to go this summer. I really feel that i cant wait any longer than summer. I have waited so long for this opportunity already.

I agree, I usually use it as a valid ID, for now. So what place are you going to this summer if you don't mind? Wow, there are many first for you on this trip. I hope your trip would push through. Oh, I've been on a plane before, in fact I'm going to ride one again this Friday. I am traveling to a tourist destination at the southern part of my country for our annual family trip. And can't wait to go scuba diving. My first too by the way!

I am planning to go to america. I really want to go there and i never got the chance before to leave the country. I really hope i go there this time and nothing happens to change that. i have been saving like crazy so i can buy something when i go up there. I just really want to go and enjoy it. And if that come true then all i would want is to go up there again when it is snowing. I want to feel how snow really feels. By the way sorry for taking so long to respond. I never realize that i got back a response to my response as well as I have been studying for my exams. Happy mylotting.

I have had my passport made for 1 year now for I too had plans in working abroad. However, I still haven't used it yet. Never had any stamp on it ever. Never even been out of the country to travel for I don't have the fund to do so. I am hoping that one day I make use of it, travel to near countries first for it has a cheaper fare. Then maybe going to where my bf is now..too far but hopefully be there with him if we have the money.

The near countries are the first places I'd love to go to since it has cheaper airfares. Since I am from the Philippines, the nearest i'd love to go would be Singapore and Hongkong (Disneyland :p). Then if I have a better budget, i'd go to where my bf is, in London, airfare would really make me starve for a few months but if that is the only way to be with him then why not. :)

Wow! That is also where I would want to go too. Singapore to see Universal Studios where the pink dolphins are, HongKong to see Disneyland and just a ferry boat away is Macau. Going to London would cost you a lot. I have friends and relatives there. You really need to work a lot dear! Good Luck!

Hi Alexandrearose! Welcome to Mylot! Nah! I don't have plans of working abroad unless I bring my family with me. I'm contended with my life here in my country, I couldn't ask for more. Well I guess, I can ask for one. That is too travel abroad! I think airfares to nearby South East Asian countries are quite cheap already. So the chances of traveling to those countries are quite big. My husband has been to those, mostly company sponsored. But since we just got another house, It may take awhile for us to travel abroad. We'll just contend ourselves with traveling locally. There are a lot of tourist spots in my country that is equally beautiful as what other countries have.

I was on a "family" passport back in the 1960's, I don't quite know what that was, but my folks took us to Europe. Then, in 1995, my mom took me to England and we had to get another passport for me then, that was still good when I went back to England in 2003. I lost it for a while, but now I've found it again and need to get it renewed if I want to leave the States again, like take a cruise.

Best? Gosh, there are so many. I think the most beautiful natural wonder I ever saw was Crater Lake Oregon. http://www.oregon.com/southern_oregon_attractions/crater_lake_national_park Hard to find really great shots online, but the place just takes your breath away! On the other hand, Yellowstone was REALLY interesting http://www.nps.gov/yell/naturescience/geothermal.htm I was really interested in the geothermal sights, but I know some people go to see the animals. Probably the oldest site I've been to have been Stonehenge and Avebury, both henges in England. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avebury http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stonehenge and I really enjoyed the family visit to Rome, didn't spend nearly enough time there in my opinion... Then there are the Anasazi ruins in the Four Corner's area. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ancient_Pueblo_Peoples I thought this was really interesting too. There, give you a few places to dream about visiting! Oh, and Victoria B.C. Canada is beautiful too http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victoria,_British_Columbia and if you go there, you must visit the Butchart Gardens! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Butchart_Gardens

Wow Elic! I've seen the photos and the places you've been are quite amazing! Anyway, here is my local version of them. Oh by the way I'm from the Philippines. The best natural wonder I've seen so far is the Puerto-Prinsesa Subterranean River. We had been there last year and this is a candidate for the Seven Wonders of Nature. It is the longest underground navigational river in the world. And what striking is the stalagmites and stalactites formation resembling a cathedral, the holy family, some vegetables, etc. Unfortunately, I couldn't find such pictures within the cave for you to see. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puerto_Princesa_Subterranean_River_National_Park As for geothermal sights, we really don't have one exactly like Yellowstone. But we do have an active volcano. We have Mayon Volcano, famous for having a perfect cone. I still need to see it though. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mayon_Volcano We don't have rock formations like Stonehenge but our ancestors made something marvelous as well. The Banaue Rice Terraces. http://whc.unesco.org/en/list/722

I'm 58 and have never had a passport. Until recently, US citizens could cross the border to Mexico or Canada with only their driver's license as proof of citizenship and we didn't need passports. We didn't need them, either, for Caribbean cruises. Those are the only things I've done - trips to Mexico and Canada and Caribbean cruises. I guess if I want to travel in retirement, I'll have to get a passport. Today, they're so expensive.

Wow that is good to hear you don't need a passport to cross a border. In Asia, you need one to cross border. Yeah, traveling is quite pricey nowadays. You need a lot of money to really enjoy it. Although, airfares to nearby countries are quite cheap now, still you still have to spend for accommodations and food.

I say if you're going to have a passport, you might as well use it! lol. I'm actually on my second passport now and my first one, I used it so much I had to have extra pages added! lol. I'm originally from the U.S. I first used my passport to travel to Argentina (where I live now). I've also gone to Uruguay, Peru, Chile and Brazil. Of course they're all countries around Argentina. When I was a kid and on my parents' passport, I traveled throughout all of Europe. Germany, Italy, England, France, Holland, etc. Travel is by far one of the best ways to educate yourself about the rest of the world.

At least you're getting some use out of it! Lol. I think it's great that you're taking your son around your country. Yes, it is an important educational tool. It allows you to see that, even in your own country, people live differently from place to place. It also helps to curb things like racism. My parents made sure to take us to all the historical places in the U.S. when I was a kid....from the battlefields of Gettysburg to Hersheyland, PA! It really made a difference in how I look at things and gave me a deeper appreciation of history. It's so important to see things firsthand versus just reading about them in a book. He may be a bit young to "get it" just yet, but I'm sure you'll have pictures and videos you'll show him as he gets older and maybe it will prompt him to probe a bit about those places. Like I said, you'll give your son a great education just by traveling around. Good for you!

Oh I've actually used just as an id! Sadly dear, our finances don't permit us to travel as we like. My cousin who married a British has the same philosophy as yours. That traveling is a great way to educate his son, so they go on a yearly holidays to the different parts of the world. I want to apply that one too to my 4 year old son. Though not as extravagant as a holiday out of the country, we make it a point to travel to the different tourist destinations in my country. In fact we are going on a trip this Friday, and my son is just so excited to fly on an airplane again and just have fun on the beach.

ya youre rite im from nepal. not that cold. its mild. there are places like Annapurna base camp. and thats for trekking and you also can go poon hill which the best place to see a large mountain range from very close. these are on top of my charts. if i write it down here then i will have to spend a lot of time writing the names of places. you can come here and you can go anywhere. even it seems small on the maps, its beauty will make you feel that now this is heaven. but you might be slight dissappointed when u get here coz only international airport is in capital which is polluted except for that everything is place of heaven.

I got my passport that is valid now in 2005. It is in date until 2015 and so far I have been on many journeys using it. My children's passports are only valid for 5 years. In 2005 I went to the Maldives on my passport. Also that year I went to Bulgaria and Romania with my passport. Then in 2007 I had the fun getting my baby son a passport photo. I took him to Portugal that year. In 2008 we took our passports on our trip to Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. In 2009 my son and I traveled to South Africa with our passports. That same year my baby daughter was born and soon after her birth I got her a passport. We traveled with our passports to Canada in 2010. Then this year the three of us traveled with our passports to Colombia. Traveling is my top hobby. It is essential for me that my passport is in date and easy to find for my next trip.

You are a well traveled person Maximax! I think traveling is a good way to educate our kids. They are just not confined to the learnings they had in school. They get to learn about new places and the customs and traditions of other people. Although, we can't afford to travel abroad this time, we make sure we travel to other places in my country even once in a year. Yes, I use it everytime I travel, also when I travel inside Norway with plane as it's convenient to use it as ID. At the moment, my passport has stamps from Japan, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand and the US. It's been to many other places too, but most European countries don't stamp. Or they might do so if you ask them, but as you don't have to show it when you travel inside Schengen I can't be bothered to ask.

I have a 10 year passport but in the last 4 years have had to have it renewed two times as I kept running out of pages. Maybe I have been travelling to much, hehehe. In the last 4 years I have visited Singapore, Jakarta, Bali, Hong Kong, Maccau, Thailand, Taiwan, Cambodia, Laos, Dubai and enjoyed the experience of each country, its food and culture. Previous to travelling over the East, I had been to Mexico, U.S and Canada and prior to them all over Europe, Eastern Europe and Russia. So normally my passport never lasts me for 10 years. Hope the travel bug bites you soon and those stamps start amassing in your passport too.
